hi guys!  noob, sorry......ok, so im running antminer s1 off corsair cx430 psu.  i also have 14 usb block erupters & 4 red furys in 3 rosewill 10port hubs.

now, can i run the hubs off the 5v molex on the psu?  .....just cut the plug/transformer off & run to 4pin molex.  the hubs say "5v 500mA"

thanx for the help

They will only draw what they need.  Your erupter wants 500 ma (1/2a) each.  The fury's want a little more.  USB2 is rated at 1/2 amp per plug so in theory you could draw 5 amps from a 10 port hub.

As for overdrawing and frying your shit ... while unlikely that can happen.  Short circuiting a 20 amp power supply will have more dramatic results than short circuiting a 3 amp wall wart.  You can melt wires and do all sorts of glorious things.  Search the forums for melted hubs and you can find pictures.

As for my setup, the USB miners I have left look like

Well, I hope your computer has an 80+ rated power supply.  Otherwise you are not going to be saving much.  Wall warts are notorious for being inefficient so an 80+ rates pc power supply will help on the efficiency and seriously help on the power factor.  Your whole farm is drawing about the same power as a 100 watt light bulb so a more efficient power supply isn't going to save a whole lot.

I strongly recommend you invest in a kill-a-watt meter.  You can get them for about 20 dollars at the local box store.  They are great for resolving those types of conflicts.  Put it on your mining rig for a day and measure how many kwhr it draws.  Then hook up the TV his wife and kids leave on all the time for the same period of time.  That should end his grumbling.  If he still complains, figure out how much your rig is drawing and give him the two or three beers worth of electricity it is drawing each month Wink

the corsair cx430 is 80+ bronze certified.............itll still "look" better than everything plugged into power strip mounted on wall anyway.  psu already there runnin antminer, so may as well clean up the wall

& i do got power meter coming, just ordered it couple days ago.  thats the plan on that, lol

Are those Molex connectors on the ends of your hubs?  Where did you get them (the hubs, that is)?  I'm adding Gridseeds to my rig, and they need powered hubs to run (not sure how much they pull at 5V, plus they have barrel connectors for 12V...would've been nice if a DC-DC converter had been included to get all power from the barrel connector instead).
