That is quite an interesting move by that governor and he even specifically mentioned the fact that he plans on freeing cryptocurrency holders from paying taxes on their gains. That could be a real stimulus for the real economy, allowing people to buy or build houses with their cryptos without having to tax the gains they make. Or get tourism going again as soon as the pandemic allows for that. Now people hold back their cryptos for tax reasons, but that could be a real door opener for Thailand's crypto enthusiasts to get a real economy going and growing.
I think it's a great move, but I also think you guys may be reading too much into it.
The guy is talking about allowing
TOURISTS to buy using cryptocurrencies without paying taxes. Nobody's talking (at least in that article) about Thailand not taxing cryptocurrency gains, or about buying or building houses. The decision is just a measure to promote tourism. Of course it's positive, but it's a far cry from allowing everybody to avoid taxes on cryptocurrency.
Either way, it'd be a great thing if more countries followed suit. It's a start. Kudos to the Thai government for it.
