Hi,

I installed Metamask extension on another device in my home and did the import using secret recovery phase to login and it asked to create a new password, why new password needed and why cant I use my previous old password?

Okay I logged back in and see my settings are not synced and my metamask looks like it has gone back to default settings with all the networks that I originally added on my 1st device that I used 1st time to create the metamask wallet is all gone.

Password is being used to locally encrypt your Metamask secret recovery phrase, so if you are using Metamask on other devices, you are required to add a new one.

The secret recovery phrase does not hold your networks and settings configurations. It is only accountable only for your private keys(master key). And Metamask does save your settings locally on each device, so every new device will have the default Metamask settings.

I don't think there is a simple way to sync your Metamask settings, as of now. So, the best you can do is to manually add a new configuration on other devices.

Just to add on what @vv181 said, the objective of a recovery phrase is to be able to recover access to your addresses even if you lose all other details including device, password etc, you can also import it to a different software from the one you used to create it.

You can of course set your new password to be the same as the old one if you remember it, but it functions as a single step process to gain access to an addres, hence the phrase; "not your keys; not your coins".

It's up to you whether you want to use the old password or the new one, but why would you want to use the same password on all devices?

Because that's how metamask is designed. It's a noncustodial wallet, so It's not going to store all your passwords or setting in the cloud so that you can sync them.

Any setting you add manually is locally stored in the computer/device.

I tend to agree!
This is how extensions and apps work either wallet or any platform, all information is locally stored, once you've used another device it will ask again for credintial and information so that it will be able to access from other devices.

Per device it has a different password, as mentioned above, any settings that are stored are locally saved per device used.  So it's okay if you will use a different password but it's expected that when you come back to your device it will back to the default.

You are right that the settings is not the same as the previous one. Don't worry, all who use metamask extension will have to do it again. About the password, you can use the same password if you want. As what in previous post said, setting you made and adding tokens, network and other stuff that you must add manually won't be  set automatically when you import your seed phrase on metamask. Once again, seed phrase only recover your wallet and have access to your crypto and not the settings. Metamask have a feature to sync your metamask but you need the other device to scan the qr code.

I'm not a brave user, but that's up to the developer. Since Brave is their main product with an embedded wallet, it's only natural that users can do anything on their own platform including restoring user settings just by connecting their address. You should also ask, can BAT restore external wallet configurations such as metamask? No, because they are not the same product.

Actually can't. Why not used the same password that you used on other device so even you are using that on another device you can still input the same details when you are logging in. That's the beauty of non custodial you have the choice to change it on another just in any case you forgot your password. I don't see the ugly part of it as option but a superb feature.

Password is a second protection layer to protect your fund.

You don't have to use a same password when you install your metamask, import your mnemonic seed to a new device and a new browser. Password, to understand correctly, is to protect access to your seed. So if you already have seed phrase, you don't need password. Because you can use your seed phrase and import it to anywhere else.

Password is to protect your wallet on a specific browser you are using and already install your Metamask, your wallet seed in it.

If my explanation is hard to understand. Please consider another example. When you download, install and create your new Bitcoin wallet, you will have its private key, then you might set up a password for your wallet file. It protects access to your wallet and a private key inside.

So if you have a private key, you can import it to another device, or on a same device but create a new wallet file name. After importing it, you won't need password to broadcast transaction. You can also set up a new password to protect a new wallet file.

Just so you know, brave browser isn't decentralized. If you want to prove this, just  try claiming the BAT rewards they send you and see if they won't ask for KYC.
Brave lost its credibility a long time ago when they became too greedy for money and got acquired by Binance.

Both method are safe for me, what is the root cause of this type of hack and any type of hack is the user itself, a user that is careless enough to lose this way can as well lose in other way. We should all the time focus on security and making our online vicinities safe from hackers. We should not trust anyone, we should make sure we do not use our device used for operating our wallets to always go online which is where the attacks are from. Also to be careful of phishing.

I don't know if there is some "hack" to enable the mobile sync feature. But I'm currently running Metamask 10.6.4 and the feature is systematically disabled. So the mobile sync feature is improbable for the default MetaMask settings.

I think there are multiple options provided by new wallet better than MetaMask in "sync settings" between several devices.
But if you want to synchronize the best option:

Download Metamask on your phone first, save seed then import it to wallet browser extension using seed.

Generally, wallets are designed for privacy and offline private key generation or connected to more than one device so using your same seed in several devices will increase the risk of loss of currencies.
