The TV show Home Economics with more than 2 million viewers of their latest episode mentioned crypto. One brother was trying to pay back another without his consent and mentioned sending him “crypto” after learning what that was. I found this extremely interesting because it was the first time I’ve seen “crypto” mentioned instead of Bitcoin. This is undoubtedly the result of the rise in altcoins and pretty crazy that crypto will likely begin to surpass Bitcoin in mainstream mentions. Once NFTs start hitting mainstream entertainment, things are gonna get wild…

because it was the first time I’ve seen “crypto” mentioned instead of Bitcoin.

This is really something different. Mentioning bitcoin unexpectedly in a show is already usual and common but if they take the script into crypto, that is something general and it's not that Bitcoin is the only one referring to.

But as a viewer, I don't think it will impact those who are not really aware. I hope so that it will create confusion.

or maybe if you are just a regular viewer, you will be curious what crypto is he talking about. but most i believe will just let it pass. sooner or later, we may see movies briefly mentioning the new alternative payment method via crypto. it will be like just a regular day to day basis using crypto as any other payment method.
slowly, people will just be used to hearing crypto as another payment option or in their apps, they will already see crypto as an option to pay for goods or services, as merchants are integrating crypto in their payment methods

It will create confusion to the people who doesn't know about it since they will just think about what is it or is it safe, but what good thing happen there is the word bitcoin is advertised free on that show so for sure many people got hype up for the situation they see. For sure those mentioning creates further discussion like this even outside of this forum so its healthy for bitcoin to have that and for sure in future many shows will mention bitcoin and its use case.

It's probably crypto is really gaining mainstream, and I think still a win-win for Bitcoin and the rest of the altcoin industries, although of course we wanted more of BTC being mentioned.

Again, there's nothing wrong with it, and with the surge of NFT's and other other crypto logo specially in sports maybe it's time to "crypto" to be the keyword, in my opinion.

I had a look at google trend search, and it looks like Bitcoin was always on top of those two, even at their peak in May 2021:

It's also interesting to note that the peak of Bitcoin in 2017 was larger than the 2021 one.

People mostly still are referring to bitcoin when mentioning "crypto" though, right? Especially for the payments side of things. It's mostly just either bitcoin or ethereum, and I doubt anyone would be wanting to pay with ETH right now with how disgustingly high fees are.

The popularity of crypto will increase sooner or later. Maybe they mention crypto instead because, in crypto, many coins can be used for payment and not just bitcoin.
That can make people curious about what is crypto and what is inside of crypto. NFT indeed gives help to lift the crypto popularity and so far, the progress is good enough to attract people's attention.
he more people are aware of crypto, means the popularity will grow and the use of crypto will also increase.
People will not deny the advantage of crypto to them and will start to find out more.

Whatever the type of TV show, they always try to bring in a dose of the real world into them so viewers can connect to it more easily. I believe there was a recent mention of BTC in some blockbuster movie. So whatever the flavor of the day it is, they will put it in to keep that bond with the real world. Seeing that this is (I presume to form the title), an economics show, they try to be as exact as possible, and to be fair, Crypto is nowadays more of a correct term than BTC. I doubt this change in terminology will be implemented across the board, this is a specific show that needs to have it's facts strait, you won't see that in, let's say, The Avengers, they will still be namedropping BTC).

It's better to use "crypto" instead of just Bitcoin. It doesn't mean I don't know and that I don't want BTC, but it's mentioning everything in general, which will be suitable for everyone. The ideal way to focus on this is to show into some other type of audience, not just mainstream social media. More people get into it; it's better. More people are now going to stay away from hyperinflation etc.

It is clear that the shitcoin market is going to remain and has a lot of growth potential, however much those of us who only buy and hold bitcoin because it seems essentially different to us, believe that there is no shitcoin is even fit to tie Bitcoin's shoelaces.

What is clear to me is that the top ten shitcoins will continue to change, as it has been doing in recent years, with the most stable one up there being Ethereum, but Bitcoin will always be at the top.

Bitcoin/Crypto has been mentioned multiple times on TV shows about finance/business in my country.
However, that doesn't mean that Bitcoin/altcoins are widely adopted in my country.Actually it's quite the opposite.
I guess that shitcoins/NFTs are going to get more hype around the mainstream media, mostly because they are new.Bitcoin is here for years,so the mainstream media got used to it.
We should stop getting so excited every time Bitcoin/crypto gets mentioned in some random TV show.
Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general are a part of pop-culture by now.

Make people who watch it confused what crypto is and try to find out what crypto is, how to use it and that makes crypto more popular. I saw some merchants start accepting payments using crypto. I think the crypto mentioned is not bitcoin or ethereum because of the high fees.

It's good that it was mentioned, and thanks for emphasizing that it's about the word 'crypto' because my first thought was that I've seen many shows like this, but you're right that they actually mention Bitcoin specifically rather than 'crypto'. But still, I believe that Mr Robot mentions crypto, and it's a show from 2015. I watched it years ago, but since the whole show is basically about a Libra-like cryptocurrency rather than about Bitcoin specifically (although Bitcoin also plays its part there), I'm pretty sure they used this word on-screen, although the only proof I can link now is the word being visible on a laptop screen briefly.
Honestly, I don't think one show here and there is enough to assume a new trend is taking place, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what future shows prefer.

Of course this is a good thing for us to see as cryptocurrency enthusiasts. However for those who are still uninformed or misinformed about crypto, they are still curious about it but I think that they would like to research and find out more about it if they are interested.

yes, it would be great if more and more people are using crypto as a means of payment. The price of Bitcoin and Altcoin will continue to rise due to the large number of people who buy and use cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.
Altcoins are very difficult to surpass Bitcoin which already has a fantastic price, Bitcoin has an advantage that Altcoins cannot have, namely the popularity and fame of bitcoin which is already worldwide.

Yes that is interesting. Bitcoin have been mentioned thousand times in the TV series, whether it is Netflix or normal TV aired shows I have seen it’s reference all the time and it was becoming very common to see it.

So yeah, the mention of crypto as whole is different story. Though it’s a single instance it can be helpful to get attention of those 2 million viewers. Moreover this show will be repeated watched by fans and May be overseas if it is licensed. This will help spread the word quickly. Hope so it benefits the “crypto”.  Tongue

I can't remember when or where but I've already seen a post where Doge and Shiba had more hits on Google than BTC.
It's usually the other way around but I won't be surprised if there are people who came to know bitcoin after those two.

I had a look at google trend search, and it looks like Bitcoin was always on top of those two, even at their peak in May 2021:

snip

It's also interesting to note that the peak of Bitcoin in 2017 was larger than the 2021 one.
You can't use google analytics as a benchmark because not everyone finds out about bitcoin from google, maybe they find out about bitcoin from social media or other search sites.  the emergence of NFT is an extraordinary phenomenon, this year is a very good year for the crypto market, hopefully in the following years the mass adoption of crypto will occur soon.

Most people first hear about Bitcoin and then buy an Alt-coin as their "next bitcoin". There is enough marketing out there to convince you that your own bags have the best bet to succeed. Once you buy in, the transfer fee and selling fee is enough to deter most small holders from taking profits, unless you happen to be very lucky and buy something like Siba Inu.

Lots of fortunes made and a lot more are being destroyed. It makes no sense to have Alt-chain after Alt-chain, L2s after L2s, Launchpads after Launchpads and all of them continuing to make the private sale investors rich. It makes no sense but it keeps happening. Everyone wishes there was a way to drown out all the shill and noise. Yet, now with NFTs, it has been proven again that hype matters the most.

Posts such as these are the anachronistic now instead of the "mention" of crypto or NFT.
