Can you still build mining rigs with 6gb GPUs like gtx 1660s in 2022? For how long can this graphic cards keep up with mining? I'm sure they are better option over rx580 4gb, what do you think?

You can mine ETH until august 2024.

But you can mine Flux for ever for example, 6GB are more future proof, but it depends on how long you plan to mine, what coin you wish to mine and what the crypto market do in the future.
I prefer cards with 8GB or more.

They are surely better than the RX 580 4GB,the hashrate is similar in both such cards but the power consumption is cheaper in the Nvidia side.As for mining they are future proof even in 2022 because the dag size right now is just 4.36 GB so there is a lot of time until we reach their end of life in mining.I am talking about Ethereum here as being the most profitable coin to mine right now but even when the dag size of Ethereum will be over 6 GB in size there are a lot of other coins to mine like RVN,ETC,ERGO and a few others specific to Nvidia cards. That makes them still future proof even in 2022 and beyond.

yes for sure but eth will switch to pos at june 22, you have less option after that and many gpu miner will dumping their gpu before or after that, million of used gpu hit market

and pc gamer will got they want after that, some miner will mine on other algo / coins, so sad to say this

One of the ways in which devs can combat asics is by using memory capacity intensive algos, so the higher your memory capacity is the more options you'll have.

And yes you should be fine for the two years at least if eth does not succeed with the POS transition, google eth DAG calculator for more info.

There are certain inherent flaws in POS compared to POW when it comes to consensus but eth has some of the best brains behind it.

Been hearing ETH is going POS since 2017 and yet here we are.

Don't get me wrong, I wish them luck and really hope they will pull off the POS transition and hope they pull it properly.

Because if they don't its going to be the biggest rocket ship explosion ever.

rx580 4gb is no longer on sale in stores.
The gtx 1660s is a good graphics card for mining, but it will lag behind modern graphics cards.
Calculate the purchase of one RTX 3060 / RTX 3060ti video card instead of two gtx 1660s video cards.
If you have expensive electricity, then you will have high costs after you finish mining Ethereum.

It won't matter anymore once ETH get rid of pow algorithm in few months to this time, you should be hearing about this already I believe so if anyone is planning to build a mining rig for future reasons I suggest they should erase ETH mining from their plan

8gb but 6gb minimum for eth apparently 4gb won’t make you anything. The 4gb is history and virtually useless. 6gb will be the next in line so your getting more usage and Mh with the 8gb.

You can mine ethereum classic or vertcoin with the 4gb cards
30MHASH will give around $0.9262 per day

There are still few coins that works well with 4GB vram you just have to look for them but ETH is the major winner here which got me kinda worry what will happen if ETH mining isn't working anymore, a rx580 4gb can still mine Ethereum Classic with 32MH getting 1.34$ every day

If Ethereum mining stops working, then the advantage of AMD 8 GB video cards over AMD 4 GB video cards will decrease, and these video cards will mine Ethereum Classic or Raven Coin.
1660 super or 5600 ht have more possibilities for mining before old 480/580 series.
