If anyone wants to go over a list of all accounts created during 2021, sorted by merits (descending), as an entry point indicator to start looking through profiles, the data is available here:

Data is as of last Friday, and I’ve pre-filtered the list to those non-banned with 50 merits and above. If you click on a name, a popup screen should appear, with the option to go to the User Profile on Bitcointalk.

I am very glad to notice that I top the list as published by you, even when I purposely slumbered in creating topics. It's a mere list as it appears but it refreshened by newbie and member days memory that I was super hot.
My strongest competitor then who was actually leading is RainbowKun
Why does he not appear on the list, trust he is not banned because he is or will be a very big asset in the forum.

Discussable, but that is why everyone is entitled to an opinion here, and a vote on equal terms. You’re right. He's not on my Dashboard because I can’t match the exact criteria established in the OP: Whereas the Dashboard filters by accounts created during 2021, the OP implicitly allows for accounts created prior to 2021, so long as they were a Newbie/brand new on the 01/01/2021. Since the account you mention was created in 2020, the Dashboard does not list it. Same goes for @EZ0010.

Note: By that criteria, I’ll probably bring another 2020 account that was a Newbie at the beginning of 2021 as my candidate: Hispo

That was the other option I considered, although I eventually presumed that the loophole for prior to 2021 accounts to be valid candidates was deliberate, to extend the event to more accounts.

Well deserved nominations to the nominees and special shout out to the OP for his nomination and how far he has come on the forum, keep it up. I enjoying seeing those that are interested in learning without the sophisticated knowledge in the space improve both in ranks and knowledge on the forum.

I nominate: KingsDen for his hunger to learn. I'm attracted to those that want to learn as I tend to learn from their quest as well. Good luck to everyone.

I first knew about the Lightening Network in @Pmalek thread. I understood its concept, which is majorly to solve the problem created by PoW nature of bitcoin, which are;
1. To fasten BTC transaction processing time.
2. To curtail the transaction fee.

To continually enhance the adoption of LN, it is pertinent to make its algorithm less ambitious compared to the algorithm of the problem it tends to solve(bitcoin).
The complexity of blockchain and btc is actually a piss to many and a factor hindering its massive adoption.
I therefore urge us to be less technical in this thread in order to answer some unanswered questions, many answered and some unexpected questions(maybe worthless in the eyes of many).
Having acknowledged the works of Joseph Poon, Dryja and others for the success of LN, I also praise.
Can we please see the below questions together that may be running in the minds of most newbies in LN like myself.

1. Is Lightening Network only out to solve BTC problems? If no, are all altcoins eligible to use it, if not now maybe in the future when the need arises. Or would there be or is there solution to altcoins limitations?

2. Can the LN be used as a store of value? Which means that I can transfer some amount of btc there and leave it for a long time for saving purposes? If yes, any security risk?
3. Can a user add someones wallet address to the network without his knowledge? What I meant is that must the sender and receiver be authenticated before transaction? It would be better if there is a scenario that an organisation can pay her thousands of staff through LN without involving the staff in the network(since there might not be a time that the staff will send money to the organisation)Like, campaign managers paying users here through Lightening Network opened and closed from their end. I don't know if someone understands me.

4. Since the blockchain only records transaction at opening and closing a channel, will it be nice to have a mechanism that mirrors the transaction in the LN to the blockchain for on blockchain record keeping and security even when they are not charged transactions fees?

5. Can someone explain to me that LN is not centralization in decentralization?

6. The increase in the adoption of LN will invariably reduce the reward of the miners, Will this not amount to further increase in the on blockchain transaction fees?

7. In the off chain transaction, is it that there is a very low transaction fee or there isn't a transaction fee at all. If the former holds true, are there node operators in LN, if yes, how sufficient is their reward.

8. In the case of buying coffee.  If I have to buy coffee from 5 different stores, do I need to open and close channel 5 different times? Isn't the cost of opening and closing these channels equal transaction fee on the blockchain?

9. Is there a demo version to try out the LN without using real btc in other to get acquainted with the process.

I am sorry if most of the questions are illogical or substandard and hence piss, I promise by next year, I might not get where I want to be in crypto, but I will not be where I am today.

Oh wow--I know I merited him for that post, but I only skimmed through the thread, and now that you brought it back up again I think I'm going to go back and do a more close reading of it.  Ideas like that one are starting to intrigue me these days.  And yeah, I'd agree with you about n0nce's contributions.  

Those other members mentioned in the OP I'm not that familiar with except KingsDen, and frankly if we're voting for Newbie of the year, I wouldn't consider him to be a viable candidate.  Just my opinion.

Having a strong desire to learn doesn't necessarily make a member a good candidate for NoTY, and that post of his you quoted was about 3x what it should have been based on the points he was trying to make--plus it was written in English broken just enough that it was frustrating to read.  

When I see posts like those, I immediately think "merit fisherman", whereas the post LoyceV quoted from n0nce was original and probably took a lot of time and effort to write.

May I suggest that you not try to micromoderate this thread?  You did not specify in the rules that discussion of the candidates wasn't allowed, and I personally think it's entirely appropriate for the community to do so here, since this is where the voting is happening.

What we're doing here is nominations and everyone is open to nominate whoever he feels like provided the user passes the criteria of the OP. From what I understand what we're looking to award here is newbie award meaning the person must not be some professional or have perfectly written english before you consider them as perfect nominees. This is a forum and provided you can communicate to a certain level of understanding that's fine. Besides you're a newbie, you can improve over time.

At the end, It all boils down to who wins and not who got nominated, there isn't some dictatorship system here that we must agree to a certain school of thought. The pool is open for newbies from all area of the forum, from the technical aspects to the average discussion creators. We all have individual that have caught our attention this year and seen how impressively they have grown on the forum.

To make this interesting more nominations should come in not minding where the newbie is coming from, provided they meet the criteria of the OP then the best man wins.

I assume this is directed at me, since you quoted my post.  I wouldn't care at all where a member is from even if I had that knowledge, but the fact is that the posts submitted thus far have been in English and we're basically judging members on what they've posted.

If you can sit there and tell me with a straight face that what was written above is profound, well written, interesting, and/or is of high value then you ought to be a professional poker player.  All I'm going to say about the above snippet is that it's fluff.  And the part I bolded....what?

Yes, I merited that post.  I couldn't tell you what I was thinking, but it was probably that KingsDen had put some effort into it and therefore deserved some merit.  My opinion at this moment is that it didn't deserve as many merits as it got.

The bottom line is that if you're writing in the English language, having a good command of it (like n0nce does) can enhance the message you're trying to get across.  If you don't, it's like listening to AM radio while driving through New York City--there's a lot of static and the signal-to-noise ratio is very low.

And likely also because KingsDen was a newbie or of low rank at the time and you notice he wanted to learn more. This could convince people to merit a newbie. You have been a good merit source ever since I noticed you on this forum. Although, I have known you from my begining here 

I would have nominated EZ0010 for paying back the bitcoin sent to him when it might work away successfully. But just that his account was not registered this year but last year December. I like people like him so much.

About n0nce. He might be new on this forum but definitely not new to bitcoin or probably even this forum as well. This can be wrong but I am thinking n0nce might be a miner as his name is gotten from number only used once (nonce) which is a number miners are solving for while mining, making me to think he is not new here at all. But n0nce has been a very good poster, he is the best among them to the extent I read carefully what he is posting before I can reply to some of his posts. He finds it easy to post about hardware wallets which is the reason dkbit98 even noticed him, I always see them both as 5 and 6 as they hardly against each other in any discussion related to hardware wallets.

If I will have to choose, I will choose n0nce, not only because of that above post but because of many of his other post related to running a node, hardware wallets, privacy and security.

I haven't understood how we vote anonymously, but I personally don't care this time of voting eponymously: n0nce FTW!

n0nce contributed a lot in the Dev & Tech sub-board this year and yes, he did make some useful threads such as the Private Information Retrieval or the guide of how to run a node for less than 50 bucks, but the most important of all is that he appeared to have an awesome personality. He signed up, and instantly had a friendly behavior. He deserves to be rewarded with this nomination and hopefully to continue being so active.

I did not enter this space as a pro, I joined as a learner. I am still learning till now and I believe there are lots of things to learn. But one thing that I am grateful about is that, I am not whom I used to be few months ago. This forum has impacted me positively, both in knowledge and smartness.

His merits are not only far higher than his activity, but also higher than his post. It is obvious he is very knowledgeable than me and every other nominees here. This fact is not debatable.

However, what I cannot welcome is that I am not fit to be nominated here. I will only not be fit if the criterion was "Nomination for Pro Newbie of the year" In my newbie time, I might not be the best, but I am sure I was a good newbie. This is evident here - KingsDen-BPIB. When you tour my merit history, @The Pharmacist and @CryptopreneurBrainboss are the two highest users that issued me merits. So, you can understand that what played out was a conflict of opinion. Both are good merit distributors and my prayer is that they should remain consistent and do better.

Maybe I don't think nominating the same user on multiple occasions is something that is prohibited in the OP's rules, so n0nce should get my attention in 2021 as the leading candidate to win the title. I may agree with some of the other candidates who have nominated different users (they deserve to be on the nomination list), but n0nce is a different user where she can understand something about bitcoin technically. That is something that many other users may find difficult to learn.

Same here, Joining this forum stimulated my interest in bitcoin and cryptocurrency, can't say i know it all, but i know better than yesterday about cryptocurrency, and have also put myself in a position to guide another to knowledge.

Good Stats indeed, but my vote goes to - SatoPrincess. She deserves recognition for her effectiveness on this forum in such a short time, she may not be as knowledgeable as user "n0nce" but her vibrations as an effective member of this forum has definitely been felt.

I think that people may have been expecting that nomination also counts as vote. At least I thought so and I stopped paying attention to this topic.
However, all this didn't get enough traction. Maybe it should have been completely different topic for nominees and actual voting, I don't know...

A similar initiative for naming Newbie of the year for 2019 managed to obtain eight candidates at the time, and run nominations and votes on different threads. The nominees thread run for a month, and the voting window for a fortnight. The longer timeframes probably helped, but probably the poll format was capable of getting more attention, although it is obviously riggable despite requiring being at least a Jr.Member to vote.
