Robinhood to Tradingview translations for newbie? Is BTCUSD the same as BTC?

This seems like a very basic question. But, I've searched on and I'm getting nothing.  In Robinhood, bitcoin is BTC and Ethereum is ETH.  But, in trading view they look more like BTCUSD and ETHUSD.  Are those the same thing? And, there's different versions from different sources. Which ones are correct?  Thanks

They are the same (or almost similar) because bitcoin is used with USD price while USDT is pegged with USD. I do not know how true it is because I am not using any of the site, but when the sell side is not indicated, it means USD by default.

BTCUSD and ETHUSD are the trading pairs. On exchanges like Binance, it's mostly listed as BTC/USD and ETH/USD but you get the point.

There's no "correct" trading pair. There will always be very small differences in prices between exchanges. It's like picking where to look at the price of a certain sneaker; on Amazon.com vs Nike.com.

As far as I know, in the Robinhood app, you can buy and sell stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, etc. Each stock, ETF, asset, or national/cryptocurrency has its own so-called ticker, which is an abbreviation to uniquely describe a tradable thing. BTC is a universally agreed-upon set of letters used to identify Bitcoin among other assets. BTCUSD is also a ticker that represents a more complex thing, namely a trading pair in which bitcoin (BTC) is traded against the US dollar (USD). Were it another currency, the Chinese Yuan (CNY) for example, a trading pair would have a different name - BTCCNY ticker. If Robinhood uses US Dollar as its default currency (I assume it does since the company is based in the US), then both BTC and BTCUSD will have almost identical charts, both of which can be considered correct despite the fact that they may show slightly different prices at the same point in time.

When you are trading in Robin hood you will have to choose a currency to buy BTC.

If you choose USD you will see the same prices and charts from BTCUSD trading view. BTCUSD is just the price of BTC divided by 1 USD.

You can buy BTCEUR or even BTCETH. Those are different trading pairs.

It's the same thing as far as I know. Platforms like robinhood might list an asset as BTC or ETH only but if it's a trading pair, then by default BTC = BTCUSD and ETH = ETHUSD if the base currency is USD or BTC = BTCEUR and ETH = ETHEUR is the base currency is Euro.

Thank you to everybody. That was so helpful. I think I get it now. 

I just wanted to be able to watch the stocks with tradingview and then buy them with the robinhood app.  I just want to make sure I'm watching the same stock.

Since I'm buying everything with USD for now, it looks like I should watch the pairs with USD in them.

How confusing that USDT isn't USD at all and is some other weird crypto that seems tied to the dollar. Not sure why anyone would want to do that when the whole point is to get away from fiat.

USD = USD; like what you have with PayPal etc.
USDT = tokenized USD. Pretty much so you can use them with your crypto wallets.

Pretty simple. Not everyone in bitcoin/crypto is here for ideological reasons. Some people simply just want to trade/invest and profit in USD terms. Fortunately enough, no one is forced to use stablecoins.

Additionally,  it may be very expensive anD bureaucratic to buy USD if you live in a developing country.

I know a lot of people in Brazil who buy USDT just to get some protection against our fear currency (BRL). I don't recommend it  but I understand who does.

usdt may also be a good option  if you are looking for privacy. You can trade BTC USDT or ETH USDT in a decentralized exchange  without doing any KYC.

It supposed to be the same scale, but what you see on Tradingview is the price of Bitcoin against an altcoin that is pegged to the dollar. It is trying to be $1 but it may not be.
I did a quick search to prove what I am saying and found that the lowest price of USDT was $0.5683 on Mar 02, 2015 (7 years ago) I also remember the price of it was 0.9 several months ago and therefore the difference between the two measures is caused by USDT (or any stable currency) trying to maintain stability

These are cryptocurrency trading pairs. Exchanges usually offer several pairing options, giving you the chance to choose a pairing based on currencies you already possess. Here for example BTC/USD; BTC is paired against the US dollar(USDT) that means the two currencies can be traded for each other. In this case you use use usdt to buy Bitcoin or vice versa. Read more.
