Technology companies are working on the produce of more powerful processors and more efficient graphics chips, scientists are inventing new algorithms for vector positioning and video encoding, so I believe that in a few years almost every common consumer will buy inexpensive VR headset to study various subjects, earn and spend money, play games, communicate people around the world. Perhaps this will be a revolution in the media industry.

 Basically what this means is that facebook is not interested in only growing by building, but also growing correctly. If they wanted to keep that diem thing going then they would have done that, if they didn't see it going somewhere then it is better to sell it to someone else then just keep holding onto it with a future prospect, or even just trash it. They will definitely do something about metaverse, all these sandbox and dencetraland and all of that will be gone, they are starting point of it and they will be known even in the future but when facebook actually does something then it will be the biggest in the world for sure. Yes, Facebook / Meta is no longer holding the intellectual property rights for the project Diem. It's now owned by Silvergate.

I've been positive and thought that there's going to be a positive progress for that project but eventually, news came out about the selling of the project and then it's been sold.

How about putting it like this, metaverse is a new buzzword and scammers are creating projects with that name to scam naive newbies?

Does that sound plausible? Of course because that is the reality of these buzzwords and how they go around on social media. They have nothing to do with the ideals of bitcoin, but only because they carry a cryptocurrency tag on their they end up being discussed in this forum.

Forget about tech giants, they will always have problems backing up a crypto based project, because of lack of government acceptance. Therefore dont assume such projects to go big, they will not and if you hoping that they will be big in future, you are putting your trust in the wrong place.

There are so many metaverse projects today, even old projects today are all going into metaverse for so many reasons which I think one of them is, following the trend, and the other reason is, to make more money.
But the truth remains that not all this metaverse projects will succeed, alot of them are going to fail, and this is why it is very important to watch what you are investing in, don't just throw in your money just because it is a metaverse coin, you might end up regretting this decision.

This is all good and all but it doesn't really respond the "is it the future" question all that well. I agree that facebook changing their name to meta really did help the popularity of it but they do not have a metaverse of their own just yet.

It means that we will not see it for a while longer and we are left with projects that are different from each other. Things like sandbox and decentraland did made it bigger and bigger thanks to this news but that doesn't change the fact that we are not going to see them crumble when the real facebook one starts. So, all these people who are investing to shitty versions right now will lose money, and when the facebook one starts most people will say "I lost money on the other one, why would I invest into a new one" and metaverse may end up being dead. I do not know if that will be the case or not but there is a chance this could happen.
