Greyhound Racing, also known as Dog Racing, is a type of sports that started in 1919 in California, and in 1926 was firstly introduced in England and became even more popular in England than in the United States itself.

In fact, a year later it was introduced to Australia and Australia has one of the most interesting markets in this regards.

-------------

In this thread we will share some tips and strategies betting on these races, but unlike the traditional way of betting (i.e. selecting which dog will win the race) - we are betting against a certain dog to win the race. That is also known as lay betting. We will use Orbit Exchange website for this which is a popular BetFair clone website.

-------------

So what can you expect to find in this thread?

  • Every single bet we place will be documented with a screenshot.
  • Where possible - we will notify you 10-20 minutes before the race so you could place the same bet as well if you wish.
  • Look for the explanation next to each bet explaining why we prefer to lay this dog.
  • Discipline is the #1 key here - if you are unsure - don't place the bet. There are so many races to choose from.
  • We only bet on races from the UK or Australia.

Now let's get started!

Our first race is Ballarat in 30 minutes, we will lay dog #6 "Mini Dimmy":

The reasons to lay this dog are:

  • "Yet to hit the scoreboard." - According to the info provided for this dog.
  • Her trainer, Andrea Dailly, has several other dogs in this race with much better chance.
  • The race is delayed and the market confirms the price on this dog is only going up.

Expected profit from this race: €4.50

Bet placed:

You can watch the races live for free using this link.

The next one to look for is Wentworth Park Race #6 in about slightly more than 20 minutes.
Dog #4 is currently 50 to 1 in the bookies.

The comments on this dog reads out: "Going through the motions at present - and likely to get run off his feet early here. Last success was a 30.34 here in Feb, but form has slipped since a spell."

Her records of the last 6 races are: 648767 (i.e. she finished, 7th, 6th, 7th, 8th etc.)

Her best time for this distance is 30.34 seconds and the favorite's best time is 29.81 seconds. In terms of races of this kind the margin is quite big.

We'll update here once the bet has been placed, assuming there are no surprises towards the start of the race.

It's quite difficult to grab these high odds, the limit is €7 so you have to risk €7 or less in Orbit, or otherwise you cannot place your bet. That requires you to bet on the dog first and then lay against it for a higher price - but that takes away all the margin of profit:

We would look for ones around the 100 mark line so these would allow to pocket €7 without having to back & lay altogether.

Stay tuned for more and follow this thread for updates whenever we have a new dog to lay.

Race #8 in Cranbourne starts in about 10 minutes, and it has the following interesting points to consider:

  • A heavy favorite dog with fixed odds priced at 1.45.
  • Two dogs in this race are coming from the same trainer - Zipping Jazz (26.00) and Zipping Chew (23.00).
  • The difference in the "Best time" between the heavy favorite and Zipping Jazz is quite minimal.
  • Zipping Jazz has "place claims" whilst the other one has NBT = No Best Time recorded.

So if we need to select which dog out of the two is the worst then Zipping Chew (23.00) seems to be the better choice here despite the odds being slightly better for him.

So here we have a 23.00 dog to lay, which the odds are supposedly going to be far better and reward more accordingly. Is it coming with a bigger risk? Slightly, but in our opinion in this one it's worth the shot.

We've managed to place the bet 1 minute before the race starts:

Profit here from this race alone: €18

The last race today in Rockhampton starting in 5 minutes approx (Race #10) has a dog #3 called "Farmor Saloons", currently 40 to 1 in the bookies.
Comments on this dog: "Well beaten from this draw on resumption Jan 1 and likely to need more time. Others preferred."

Now note his best time for this distance of 407m: 24.60 seconds (quite slow)

We have 2 favorites who did around 24 seconds and another dog called "Special Speed" which is a 2nd or 3rd favorite with 23.79s BST - that is almost 1 second difference between the dog we're looking at.

So we have 3 favorites who can beat dog #3 plus others as well.

It's a full 8 dog race, no box is left empty, so you can book quite nice profits from this one, the risk is quite minimal (note there is always a risk the dogs will clash with each other etc. - which is why a 800m race is preferable but is quite rare - it depends how patient you are waiting for better chances but this one is quite an excellent chance as well).

It was extremely difficult to secure profit from this because of a low balance of €700 only:

Looks like a bank of €2,100 is better here in order to secure such bets, but if you guys were reading and were following then congrats, we feel safe to say so even before the race has started.

There was no time to post about this in advance, but in short:

The last race from Ballarat provided us a huge favorite (1.30) who won the race, we did rely on the favorite to get his job in this one.

Current stats:

5 bets placed so far.
Bank: €730.54 (€30.54 more today after deducting Orbit's commissions).

Now the last one for this session is dog #3 in Nottingham 12:06pm UK Time, currently trading between 30 and 40 to 1 in the exchanges.

The info you need is given here:
https://www.timeform.com/greyhound-racing/racecards/nottingham/1206/2022-01-05/948446

"Third run back from a long break. Looks a live adversary in this field."

Had a bad form "566T6" and overall if the exchange takes it 50 and north we'll book it in.

Bet has been placed, you can watch the race live here.

Profit from this race: €16.50

In this case the races this evening that might contain some nice dogs to lay are: Races #2, 3, 5, 6 and 7.

This is from Race #5, was placed quite a few moments before closure, sometimes it's the only way to maximize the profits:

Profit from this race: €16.00

In Race #6 Magical Tara's odds have actually improved (this dog did win the last 2 races) - so this is a no bet, FYI.

In this case the races this evening that might contain some nice dogs to lay are: Races #2, 3, 5, 6 and 7.

Last one for today (Race #7):

Profit from this race: €23.00

Bank so far: €783.82
