Been looking more and more at the idea of using a service like this with a portion of my coin. In the past always been a “not your keys, not your coin”, kind of guy but I have been interested in returns on long stored coins that can still gain interest in BTC.

Would love to hear opinions good or bad if you have any.

Happy New Year

I have no experience with them but they're also known due to the fact that they're offering good rates for their earn interest. Since you're already aware that upon depositing your funds there, you're no longer the owner of it and you're risking it because if anything bad happens to the exchange and your funds are affected, they may deny the refund. But to give you some hope, some exchanges that have been hacked, those reputable, I've seen them refund.

You might want to refer to this particular post made by buwaytress about Nexo. This was posted just a couple of months ago, so the existing terms and conditions of the platform might still be the same until now. S/he tried it himself/herself. By the way, I took this from the last page of the thread that AdolfinWolf suggested.

So last year, I wrote that I decided to test NEXO services with USDT. Can't believe it's been 15 months since that experiment.

Thought it could be interesting to update a number of things about this service, for those keen to learn or find out more. This is not a recommendation in any way, I'm still highly suspicious of them and you should understand from past discussions that your funds are not as protected as it appears.

Updates since the last post in July 2020:

1. Insured amount has gone up from $100M to $350M. However, this represents roughly 1% of all assets under management. In other words, if they lose everything, every customer gets about 1% back as insurance. Extremely unlikely to happen, but hey.
2. They now have real-time audit checks with a US firm so anyone can prove they are over 100% collateralized. Essentially, this just means they have more than 1:1 funds held in their accounts and on user account balances. Note, it doesn't say how much exactly this over-collateralisation is, and what happens if BTC or ETH were to drop 50% (as I suspect they would then be in trouble with those holding fiat balances.
3. Percentages have drastically reduced to roughly half of OP's title. You also get less and less from next month the more you have.
- 4% if you own less than 50k
- 3% for something like 500k
- 1% for anything above 10M
(numbers not confirmed and you get increments based on NEXO holdings as a percentage of portfolio as well)

You earn more if you choose to receive interest in their tokens. So definitely pushing more people to put in more tokens, and taking away the sting of high interest on huge savings.

What's interesting for me, though, isn't that they've:
- reduced interest on Bitcoin and ETH for whales to 1%

but that they've retained 4% for fiat. And retained 8% for Stablecoins. This doesn't make sense to me at all. It's almost as if they see stablecoins as the... safest bet for them?

You might also want to take note that despite the 8% for stable coins retained, it may actually be lower as it is subject to change. Some are saying it is actually 6.5%.

I think it might not be worth the risk. While they are claiming it is risk-free, of course, we all know it isn't.

Would love to hear opinions good or bad if you have any.
Not much information is obtained from the Nexo loan platform, it is still a question mark for the pros and cons, not many communities here use the Nexo loan site.

From the data i see some community discussion here and some opinions i have seen some people say something like below.

In CEFI it is all currently defined, celsius is best, nexo is worst (at this point)

Topic: Is NEXO currently the best lending platform? How about future?

Topic: [ANN] Nexo - The World's First Instant Crypto-backed Loans

From the discussion on the topic, I conclude that the Nexo loan platform is still questionable......?

Don't have any solid reasons about Nexo, good or bad, it's up to the user himself to judge.

However, to add to your information even more about the Nexo lending platform you can communicate on their telegram group here: https://t.me/nexofinance, maybe you will add more good and bad information there, in the minimal information forum.

You might also want to take note that despite the 8% for stable coins retained, it may actually be lower as it is subject to change. Some are saying it is actually 6.5%.

I think it might not be worth the risk. While they are claiming it is risk-free, of course, we all know it isn't.

Thanks for the quote, sent me a reminder to update that thread as well. I'm a user so I can see all the actual rates and keep myself pretty updated. No need to explain all my considerations, as the thread you linked to already contains relevant discussions.

I can confirm 8% is still retained for all stablecoins I have there, just checked today and it fits. In fact, it goes up to 12%, depending on how much NEXO you hold (which increases your level and rate) and whether you choose to receive interest in their token.

There hasn't be any news to suggest they'll change, and there's already discussion as to why stablecoins retain the rate (which make sense to me now when initially it didn't). Of note, fiat accounts also have the same rate (!). EUR, GBP, USD.

The last major update I already shared in that thread (only BTC to have reduced interest rates).

I've been using Nexo for over a year now. No issues with earning and withdrawing.

Good if you want to go stake some coins that either don't offer any returns or moving from another service that offers lower.

But loan-wise, rates are definitely on the higher side. DYOR.

I've been there for several months already and so far no issues... My only complainment is that interest rates aren't clear enough. They promote lots of "earn up to x%" and "boost your interest" informations everywhere on the platform, but forget to let explicit how much we are really earning as a common user without access to the premium benefits for holding up to 10% of total funds in NEXO token.

From my calculations I was earning 4% on my bitcoins, but noticed a new feature today that allows investors to lock funds for longer periods of time to earn extra interest, so I locked my bitcoins for 1 month (only disponible option for btc currency), so they pay 5% yearly interest.

For NEXO tokens you can lock funds for 1 or 3 months and 1 year.

After the collapse of Celsius, it's not always worth losing your assets over those cents and dollars.

Considering the real-time audit, Nexo got completely different business model from what took place in Celsius, where they had a clear Ponzi scheme.
Also, Nexo got licenses in US and EU which is a very good sign since all shady companies avoid these locations at all costs and usually prefer having a registration in some offshore zone.

You need to conduct your own research as it is wrong to think that the platform is the same as Celsius.

I guess you misunderstand the way he said, there's nothing mentioned that they are the same platform, but investing on such kind of platform and gains is always a risk when it comes to crypto. There are lots of the same kind of company lost and filed bankruptcy already that's normal people won't encourage anyone to invest on such.

You need to conduct your own research as it is wrong to think that the platform is the same as Celsius.

The very manner in which these platforms operate means they are always at risk of collapse, even if they're doing everything legally. Nexo gives you interest, where do you think that interest comes from?

Since the money can't be created from thin air, they loan your coins to other companies to try to make a profit off of them, and that's how they give you their coins.

Since those companies have your funds, if they screw up then they will default on their loans to Nexo which will take them down too. All this fractional-reserve banking happening without Nexo doing anything necessarily wrong. So be careful and consider withdrawing before the day comes.

My guess is they're going to continue operating for at least few more years.
Famous last words. Grin . I am sure that's what Celsius users thought as well and we all know how that ended up.

One of the biggest mistakes people can make is beliveing that the platform they use won't have any problems, while at the same time very similar services already went out of the business. Worst of all, if/when Nexo ends up being a scam, majroifu of people won't learn anything and will still use centralized services to store their funds and risk them for a measly profit.

I have been using them for almost 2 years and since they're the only platform that has not stolen my funds, I'm happy  Grin My guess is they're going to continue operating for at least few more years.
Good for you if you've been happily using them for years and I guess you're into their earn interest feature that makes you earn passively. It's not going to last forever, why say so? Just look at those platforms that have the same feature, they never stayed forever.

You may be happy taking those interest profits on a daily basis but it's not really a sustainable business model unless they're allotted a lot of money that they will do it for free.

But I don't think such business will keep that model, maybe they can but there will be adjustment of rates until you barely profit from it anymore.

Considering the real-time audit, Nexo got completely different business model from what took place in Celsius, where they had a clear Ponzi scheme.

There is no different business model!
Celsius didn't go ponzi, they simply overlend money and a liquidity crash took them down s they had money in all the wrong places.
Nexo is, for now, it just playing it safer, acting more like a traditional bank but this doesn't mean that's safe and doesn't mean that it will guarantee any kind of profits whatsoever.

As for audits, we have all seen how much trust you can put in those, Binance got a perfect audit then the company decided to cut all ties with them.

Also, Nexo got licenses in US and EU which is a very good sign since all shady companies avoid these locations at all costs and usually prefer having a registration in some offshore zone.

“We charged Nexo with failing to register its retail crypto lending product before offering it to the public, bypassing essential disclosure requirements designed to protect investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “Compliance with our time-tested public policies isn’t a choice. Where crypto companies do not comply, we will continue to follow the facts and the law to hold them accountable. In this case, among other actions, Nexo is ceasing its unregistered lending product as to all U.S. investors.”

This is the best explanation, I fully support it.
The next bull run (if there is one) will certainly bring new risky assessments that will offer profits of 1000% and more. Celsius went after such a profit, there is no guarantee that Nexo will remain immune and ignore such "potential".

After the collapse of Celsius, it's not always worth losing your assets over those cents and dollars.

Everything is risky when it comes about the money. You need to be able to check the legitimacy of the project along with it's business model. So if you find that someone offers a large APY on stablecoins and the company hires a former porn actress to the team to attract new investors then this is a red flag.

Cmon, Celsius had lots of red flags even before it collapsed.

Considering the real-time audit, Nexo got completely different business model from what took place in Celsius, where they had a clear Ponzi scheme.

Celsius have a bright range of accusations including pumping their CEL token using their own customer deposits. This is far beyond overlanding the money and pretty close to ponzi scheme.

So what does it say?
Coinbase also was charged by SEC. Does it mean the exchange is scam?
