If this has been discussed somewhere else point me to the thread, I did a quick search and did not find it anywhere.

So now that there are approved apps to bet with here in NY has anyone changed where / how they bet?
I know some people will move books based on small odds differences, just wondering if anyone here has made a change.
Personally, I have not. I like where I wager now and they are not in New York yet, although they say they want to be by the middle of the year. No idea if it will actually happen.

As New York legalizes sports betting, insiders wager on deluge of betting

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-york-fanduel-sports-betting-wagers-sportsbook/

New york has decriminalized prostitution and gambling in an attempt to entice residents to remain in state.

Rather than moving to florida or texas as has become increasingly common of late.

New York being a high taxation environment will likely make its native apps and gambling books less competitive than establishments in other states and countries with lower tax laws. That's what I would expect. But it is also possible new york's gambling industry could operate at a loss to be more competitive. We'll have to wait and see how things go.

Very interesting observation! Even though I didn't have the good fortune to see New York till now, but what I know that new York is the world's costliest city in terms of living cost and real estate. Just to put it in a perspective,

One hundred thousand US dollars can get you a 3 bed apartment in New York. But the same amount of money, can get you a mansion or even acres of land parcel in Florida. With so much price disparity within a single country, it's no wonder that people are moving our of New York. Also with the emergence of Work From Home culture across the world, it just makes sense!

So the Mayor of NY is probably thinking of some childish ways like decriminalize prostitution or allowing sports betting as a retainer bonus for their citizens! It's hilarious, indeed! Good for gamblers in NY!

LMAO.

It looks like a desperate move to stop the exodus. I don't know if it will work for them, because at the end of the day, prostitution consumers are mostly men and not all of them. As for gambling, I gues percentages are similar. I

If in a couple or marriage they were thinking of going to Florida, let's see how the man tries to convince the woman to stay because he wants to gamble or frequent prostitutes.

It is interesting that something that seems to be thought to be an incentive to stop the exodus that New York is going through is in fact one more reason to leave for a lot of people, the world has changed due to the pandemic, whether someone believes in it or not the change is real, and since now remote work has become more popular than ever then the need to have an expensive office right in the heart of big cities is not really necessary for a lot of business, and if we take into account that many business are facing economic problems then dropping that expense makes the most sense.

I guess New York city is really at its desperate move trying to retain citizens, through authorizing prostitution and sports betting to go around the city. Although, with its living standards, the current condition of the economy, and people’s financial capacity, I doubt this would really do its purpose. Indeed, I second @Silberman, change is real and New York must face the fact that people will leave the city one way or the other.

It seems silly that it was ever banned for so long. Along with the recent trend of decriminalizing drugs that is sweeping the states, it seems to be moving in the right direction. For far too long these activities, which people choose to participate in and which generally do not hurt anyone as long as they are done in a responsible manner, have been wasting so much police time. Police time that could have been better spent on catching violent criminals or people who do things like breaking into houses to steal. Much better to make certain non-violent crimes legal so you can document it, tax it, build statistics around it and target help to the people that need it most.

People in most parts of US are really liberated. Hence, prostitution has becoming a normal hustle and work to do. I guess New York is making their very best to convince their citizens stay by providing these band aid solutions that won't really address the problem for the long term which people are hoping for them to do. New York has such a high cost living compared to its neighboring states and with that, it's not really surprising that their citizens has been moving out and are planning to move out. Their taxation of the things that are necessary are extremely high too. Given that it's really hard to make and earn money nowadays, people would really just prefer to find and look for alternatives that could cost them less and budget-friendly to help them get by.

If New York would only provide prostitution and paving way to gambling as their way to retain their citizens, they would definitely lost it. Protitution's target market is mainly men. It isn't a necessity and therefore when times go rough, surely their regulars who had a hard time will not really prioritize it unless they have addiction problems. In terms of gambling, sure, gambling is nice. It is entertaining and you could get money from it whenever you win, but let's remember that not everyone is into gambling. There are only a specific target market where a gambling business can thrive and be successful. Because of course, its reach is not for everyone. It is not advisable for minors and mainly for adults alone. And during this pandemic, most people would really just buy something to eat and feed their households instead of gambling. New York has indeed bright lights that could blind someone and make them lose their minds.

I do think the government is now legalizing everything that there is, whatever can earn them high revenues as well, at the same time making betting legal was one thing but making prostitution legal is the other. At the end they will try and control all these things but it will end up doing nothing. Also US Is quite free and seems like Biden is not really being super conservative as people thought he might be. Soon enough there would be sex parlour with gambling, massages, all in one and people would be flocking in the pandemic. With their cases rising faster than any forest fire they need these revenues.
