well you may find an s9 for 400

but you need dirt cheap power to make money with it.

Please tell us how much is your electricity price per kWh.

It helps us to review if it is worth it to mine with a cheap miner like the good old Antminer S9

0.116 dollars by kWh, +  can this miner return my money in less than year after calculate the sum of electricity?

An S9 for $400... OK... It hashes at 14 Th/s while drawing 1400 Watts + 1% pool fee...

Let's put those numbers into a mining calculator:
https://www.coinwarz.com/mining/bitcoin/calculator?h=14&p=1400.00&pc=0.12&pf=1.00&d=24371874614346.00000000&r=6.25000000&er=1&btcer=41452.82660000&ha=TH&hc=17999.99&hs=-1&hq=1

So, basically, if the diff, block reward and price stay exactly the same for 1 year, you'll have a profit of:
-$400 + (-1.07*365) = -$790.55

Basically, you will have $790 dollar less in your pocket than you have today...

If you believe in bitcoin, it might be a better idear to just buy bitcoin and hold it... If you don't believe in bitcoin, well, just keep your fiat then Wink

Yep, it is too expensive electricity for a S9.

You can also estimate your earnings with some other miner,
and then subtract the electricity costs. Then you're left with what is your profit.

14 x .22 = 3.08 in earnings

35 kwatts a day x 12 cents = 4.14 in power spent

net loss of 1.06 a day

 based on 12 cent power.

Now if you have a space to heat and spend $$$ on electrical power to heat it  you can write off some cost since you are spending it on the heater.

True, but even if you do this, you have to take into calculation that you've acquired a $400 spaceheater that's probably very loud, and might break within a relatively short time. Offcourse, this spaceheater is repaying itself slowly... So you have to figure out IF you want to use an ASIC as a spaceheater, how many hours (in total, before you estimate it'll brake) you'll run this "space/ASIC", how much BTC it'll mine during this period, and wether or not this amount of bitcoins might be more than the cost of the asic minus the cost of a spaceheater of equal wattage Smiley

Just to make things complicated Wink

Offcourse, this calculation is MOOT if you already have an old ASIC laying around that you won't sell... In this case it becomes a much easyer decission to use it as a spaceheater instead of an electrical spaceheater you would have used anyways... In this case, you only need to worry about the noise, and maybe fire hazard (eventough i'd never run an electrical spaceheater in an unsupervised environment).
