I was just checking the announcements (altcoins) board (after a long time) and a user caught my eye. This is the account: Unikon

He made several announcements of major projects. I don't know if he's actually the official representative of those projects, but it's unlikely. What I'm worried about is that if someday people start paying less attention to this user, he will change the OP by inserting malicious links. What's more, all threads are set to self-moderated (as most scammers behave). So far, there is no self-disclaimer that confirms the identity behind this account and its role and rights.

Are there any rules for this case?

I consider most ICOs, Defi en NFTs scams waiting to happen, designed to grab money from naive greedy people for the creaters, who then move on to the next one. It doesn't really matter who posts it.

What's more, all threads are set to self-moderated (as most scammers behave). So far, there is no self-disclaimer that confirms the identity behind this account and its role and rights.

As long as there's no plagiarism, all this is allowed. People should really learn not to believe anything they see advertised.

Everybody can start a Thread and an Announcement of a project or Coin , was happend the last few years so many times !
Be careful with download links here on the Forum and check them 3 times and do some research first before you doing it.
If you think or see a ANN with a change to a malicious links then report it to the Moderators.

The case is quite different, LoyceV. I just found that he had posted an announcement of Kusama today which is not supposed to be posted by him in any way. Kusama is part of the Polkadot project by Gavin Wood. I think the guy is in something, maybe trying to deceive someone or trying to phishing or maybe trying to build a fake portfolio lol. But this doesn't look good at all, to be honest. This guy needs to be monitored. I will defeinitely keep an eye on him.

He didn't seem like an official representative, but maybe someone who was paid to advertise him on the forums. I also think that without being an official representative then you can also post ann's thread for any project that pays you for it, you are certainly not responsible because you have to tell the community that you are not one of them. I didn't see that from that user, maybe he just got paid or did have some other purpose.

You can also monitor those thread and links if necessary, and report if they change in the future as it currently doesn't appear that he is plagiarizing or having malicious intent. Thread moderation is just to prevent spam, most likely in my opinion for anyone concerned with the quality of posts "on the appropriate boards".

I am no professional in rules in the forum but I don't see any rule stated that you cannot post ann thread. I think it's allowed as what I think is that the poster did have contact with the owner so I would say that it's why the user posted several ann thread (possible case is that the user is paid). It could also be as what Little Mouse said that he may be posting a fake ann thread that is the same the original one. We can assume what we just discussed or we can ask that forum user the main reason for posting different ann thread.

I believe that all the threads he creates have a purpose. Regardless of whoever gave the instructions, activating the self-moderated thread feature means he's not new to this forum. I remember some time ago, someone offered a post job to low ranking members (without using the campaign attribute). It's impossible for people to pay people without expecting a return on more than what was spent. Maybe this is a new way to spread phishing sites.

Importantly, I have asked this and at the same time invite you guys to keep an eye on this member. For so long the altcoin announcements board has gone unnoticed by high ranking members (who think all altcoins are bs).

I think nothing good will come of this. It appears he chose prominent projects for his ANN topics for a reason and made them self-moderated in order to control the discussion in his favor.

I agree. I noticed that he edited all the topics and added a line at the top stating that he's not an official representative of the project. But we should definitely pay attention to him. The rest of his posts are nothing more than one-liner shitposts.

I've seen a user like the OP mentioned, to be exact, on another board, when I asked him what his connection to the site was, he said as participant and player, not owner or team, some problems started popping up, disaster started coming, finally scam.

As far as I know it's a special rule, make ANN posts not banned, many do it, sometimes people do it as a fad, translation and paid for specific sites or as said by: @LoyceV, investors, ico etc.

However, in my opinion, as long as the ANN is published on this forum, as long as they are under the guidance or control of the owner, the team, it may not be a problem, there are still responses and discussions to answer, if someone wants to ask at a later date.

I doubt that he is paid by the project owners and developers for such activities. If he had posted ANNs of brand-new and unlisted coins, that would have been one of the possibilities. But in his repertoire of announcement threads, he has coins like DAI, Algorand, or Uniswap. No matter what someone thinks of those particular platforms or coins, I think they will also agree that they don't really need to pay for such low-quality advertising as we are seeing from this member.

He might own these coins himself and is trying to shill them hoping for greater opportunities to sell.
But since all of his threads are self-moderated, there might be malicious intentions behind all of this as well. Maybe he will change the links to point towards phishing sites in the future or create fake airdrops to spread malware or phish other users.

In reference to the user referred to by the OP.
He is Russian-speaking and wrote posts in Russian mostly, but strangely,  they have been deleted.
In addition, I can say that he cannot be trusted. He has an alternate account that belongs to the famous troll Excimer.
I had an incident with him where he accidentally gave away his other account.

The conversation was in the Russian local section, but I think it's easy to translate.
The point is, Excimer asked me a question about a post I wrote in a thread. Subsequently, he decided that I deleted him. I replied that the post remained in place, but he simply mixed up the topics and was looking for it in another topic.
To which Excimer, having mixed up his accounts, replied from another Unikon account . When I pointed out his mistake to him, he quickly deleted his answer.
All new topics created by this person are always self-moderated. And of course, he has a habit of deleting them at will.
He cannot be trusted.

I didn’t have any disputes with him, but I think Ratimov can give an exact answer whether he is an Excimer viola or not

I checked only one topic, which was a verbatim copy. Maybe he's just hunting for Merit? He's earned 14 Merit on 10 posts, and all Merited posts have been deleted.

Yes. Some of them wanted a high ranking forum member to post their ann thread mainly for reputation. I think this is may be what they are thinking, If I let a higher ranking forum member then many will trust our project. I could post an ann thread if someone hired me but it would be difficult that they are not scam as it may affect the one who posted the ann thread. Maybe the poster will get negative trust by promoting a scam site.

The forum does not require a license to create a thread.

If you create a thread that infringes on someone’s trademark, and the trademark holder complains, the thread will be removed.

It is never allowed to post malicious links without a warning, so regardless of if an “official” representative of a project is creating a thread, a thread with a malicious link should be removed.

Oh no! He uncovered that Royse777, Little Mouse and yahoo62272; and Royse777 again (for some reason he mentioned Royse twice) are my alts. Damn! I managed so well to hide these alts for so many years but the fun is over now. Unikon caught me.
