Nice promotion, this will increase the popularity of Bitcoin in the tech community, I think.
The vast majority in the
tech industry are already going to know about Bitcoin, otherwise they'd have to be living under a rock. We've past the appealing to everyone goal, we now need to be promoting, and marketing Bitcoin to the general public, i.e your every day Joe. Whether or not something like this will promote it to more people, I'm not quite sure. I'm sure there will be a small minority of the general public who will become interested, just because it's cool, but in terms of adoption, I don't see that much of a benefit.
What’s the significance of this? Is it just to showcase the world that it exist or is it the way investors are getting attracted and that’s why it’s being done.
From the quotes in the article, it seems mostly an attempt to inspire others. Whether that will be successful, will remained to be seen. Personally, I don't see it being that great in terms of convincing people to buy into Bitcoin's philosophies.
