So, had a small incident the other day. An older miner went offline.
Took a look at the logs and saw during the storm the UPS saw some insane power issues but it handled it well. The PDUs did not even show issues.

The older miner was not on the UPS just plugged into an outlet. An under 800W miner on a 1000W PSU

Everything else that was plugged into a UPS or a PDU or any form of surge suppression was fine. The PDUs / suppressors did not even trip.

This unit and a monitor both went bang.
2 separate power feeds, so it's not like one might have taken the other out.

Keep your entire farms well protected.

-Dave

Sorry to hear this, guess all it's unsalvageable, even the monitor, right?

I've had 4 cables breaking down due to storms and others, two taking the PSU with them, two of them were 10kw, 400v which barely showed any sign apart from the burnt bottom of the 5 pins, they didn't make any collateral victims, the other two were standard one PSU that was also burned just a bit, and one that really took some damage as the plastic was melted completely inside the socket so I had to effectively cut the cable with a bolt cutter. before throwing it.
Never had one explode like this to date, nor do I recall seeing one.

The monitor is dead. The minute I plug it into anything else it trips the circuit breaker with what I guess is a dead short.
I have not tested the miner yet. It's on the to do list in the next couple of days, but I want to be sure I have a block of time to deal with it if I have to move / test hash boards.
The cables from the PSU to the miner don't look burnt but we all know that does not mean anything.

Ouch. Was there maybe an overvoltage situation or destroyed neutral wire for some time because of the storm conditions?

The UPS gave errors of hot neutral and then they disconnected from the mains so I think somewhere outside of the building something crossed.
The PDUs tripped and reset but did not show any issues. Don't know if they have an error for power on the neutral, but at least they tripped.

Did a quick check and the miner is totally dead. Can't even get a LED on the control board.
Lesson that I already knew learned again.

Well at least it was an older piece of gear. Plus the place did not burn.

There is that. Not real worried about the place burning, it's all on fireproof sheets / mats.

Just did some testing, the input is dead shorted on the PCB, I guess the plug / connector was the weakest link going back to the wall so that is what went poof.
Since the miner is 100% dead too, I am guessing that there is something past the wall power section of the power supply that is also toast.

Since a few people asked. I was wrong in the OP, the PDUs did trip and then reset within a second or two. All the miners dropped and came back but since the internet was down briefly I didn't see them down separately.
