What is it that you want to advertise though? Assuming that it's a service/platform that people would actually want to use:

- Ads: You could buy some slots from reputable sites. Not necessarily something as big as CMC or Coingecko, a smaller site like Etherscan should cost you about 1500$ a week or so.
- BitcoinPRBuzz.com: It's good to gain some exposure on sites with a lot of readers (would cost you about the same as the above).
- Referral system: This would encourage your users to advertise the service.
- Renting avatars and personal texts: I realize that bounty campaigns (social media and signatures) could cost a lot, so this could be a good and cheaper alternative.

promotion needs to be adjusted as well depending on the project type. if you are going to attract potential users with some gifts or bounties, why not.

bounty campaigns are certainly not worth as much as they are promised campaign budget. yet they make some kind of noise about the project. although one quality influencer can contribute much more than 3k "hunters accounts" participants in a bounty program.
they are mostly promised large quantities of tokens from the project which are worth nothing at the moment of entry. so there is no painful investment for owners in the bad promotion.

Bounty campaign is not recommended either.

You can go for the signature campaigns in this forum. They are being run by many businesses in this forum specially casinos, marketplaces and exchanges. Since the majority of bitcoin users visit this forum, you project gets a chance to be viewed by these people.

For social media recognition, depending on what your product is, get a social media manager and allow them to help grow your networks. For the start try to give updates through social media as a way to gain followership there.

Good suggestions are already given above also you can hire content creators in youtube,Facebook,twitter or maybe endorsers that can boost up the exposure of your project for sure their influence can hook up people to go to your project.

Also you can rent the banner space of famous crypto site since for sure you can get more traffics from advertising at them. Lastly try to build your community first since sometimes the discussion of people towards your product can help you get more people involve in your project.

Yes, just as I've said that there's should be an equal impression for both marketing and the product itself. Well, with all of those suggestions about what type of marketing that OP is asking for. Let me try to simplify marketing as much as I can: Paid and  kinda free. Although to be frank nothing is free in marketing even if you want to go the seo way you have to invest in tools or might have to hire someone. And seo is long term marketing strategy and may not suit everyone to be frank. I would suggest the paid route and that too ppc like AdWords or Microsoft ads. But be very careful with them as there policies are very hard and can ban even for small things. Specially with crypto first clarify everything with them. Why I suggest ppc is because you have a lot of control in it, if you can't make it work then other type of ads will be much more harder to work with.
