To all crypto newbies out there

If you know how important this forum Search engine is (at the top right corner of your screen) you will abandon Google search for any crypto related information, there is nothing you looking for about crypto that's not on this forum and Google search is even dangerous for anything crypto related, here is why

1. You can easily be referred to a scam land because Google now allow any ad related answers on their platforms as far as the owners are willing to pay up, this forum doesn't give room to any scam referrals or links

2. You can easily be mislead, see information is very vital and what you are been feed with is what you will have in your head, you should be familiar with people ranting about crypto on YouTube, saying buy this and buy that? Well i spent too much time with this and it doesn't favour me.

3. The right information is available on here than anywhere else like I've said before, you will be able to learn from people who have already passed the same path that you are just embarking on, if it's dangerous you will be safe by what you read.

So far I am satisfied with the results about crypto information I'm getting on here than other and before you disbelief you should try it out yourself.

I can partly agree with you when it comes to forum searches because if members used it more we would avoid a lot of duplicate threads and unnecessarily asked questions. However (for some reason) the search on the forum can sometimes be quite slow, and for me sometimes it only results with a blank page instead of displaying the results - page reload does save the thing.

Google search engine can be a good way to search (even this forum) if you know what you're looking for - and if you have adblocker installed, you won't see paid ads at the top of your search.

1. You can easily be referred to a scam land because Google now allow any ad related answers on their platforms as far as the owners are willing to pay up, this forum doesn't give room to any scam referrals or links

This bold is completely wrong, the forum does not moderate the scam, and anyone can try to post a link with any content - it's just a question of when someone will notice it and report it to the moderator, and how quickly the reaction will follow. Accordingly, do not click on suspicious links posted on the forum.

If you know how important this forum Search engine is (at the top right corner of your screen)

While you're right that this forum has a huge lot of information and most of what you need is here, I'd add that:

* the part about scams you've got it wrong, as Lucius has already pointed out
* I find TryNinja's search engine (it searches the posts of this forum!!) easier to use: https://ninjastic.space/search

While I do agree that you have to be careful when googling about crypto related stuff as you might get a paid scam site at the top of your search results (I know couple of people that got rekted that way, despite them being crypto veterans) I don't agree that forum search option is that good, and could definitely use an upgrade. For example, try typing "best bitcoin wallet" in forum search and see what you get as a result.

So far I am satisfied with the results about crypto information I'm getting on here than other and before you disbelief you should try it out yourself.
One more tool that you might consider using when you are browsing the forum is Ninjastic.space Ever since that tool showed up I stopped using standard forum search option as it makes it much easier to find what you are looking for.

You are right about the search engine working very slow at times I think we need to let the moderators know about this issue but honestly I'd rather get the exact information that I'm looking for using a slow search engine that any faster one that won't give me what I want.

This is not something that reports to moderators, it is the responsibility of the admin/s. And as for the search, there is no doubt that in both ways you will get what you are looking for if you use keywords in a forum search engine or one of the popular search engines (you can use DuckDuckGo instead of Google.)

I just tested a search through DuckDuckGo for the keywords “how trust system work bitcointalk” and got all the relevant results literally in a second, while the forum search engine after 2 minutes showed that the forum host is offline.

or just use

Code:
site:bitcointalk.org *insert search query here*

on Google.com, using a browser with the uBlock Origin plugin installed. Not to mention that there are a lot of stuff that you can find on other publishing websites(Medium, etc) and that you can't find on Bitcointalk.

Just to add, if ever that your are not aware of the forum's search settings[1], you can take a look at the thread below for you to maximize its use.

Also, reddit and quora is pretty handy especially in terms of crypto related searches. I often use reddit, for example, to search for the ELI5 (Explain to me like I'm five year old) definition of crypto related technical concept -- just a tip.

I got Error 524 (a timeout occurred) after around those two minutes you mentioned in your example.

Actually, the example is pretty good to illustrate a couple of things about the forum search engine. Besides the potential timeout error one may encounter, the other thing to bear in mind is that the forum’s search engine (SMF in general) is a dummy one, and it is literate with the sought words in the search string, as opposed to Google searches, where some intelligence applies.

Take for example the same search pattern: "how trust system work bitcointalk". Asuming that the quotation marks are not actually part of the search string, the forum’s search engine will, by default, search for any of the words in the search pattern. We can assume that "how" is going to have a gazillion entries, and so will "Bitcointalk".

What's more, the words are searched for as what seems to be substrings. For example, the said search pattern will return results containing words like "ecosystem", "working", "trusting", "show", "networks" and "however".

In order to see the above in play, we'd need to delimit the timeframe of the search to, let's say 365 days, which is a generally good practice to reduce the number of results being returned, obtain rather recent results, and avoid the timeout issue.

Since the search is, as I mentioned, pretty dummy, it's best to spoon feed it a more concise search string, such as "trust system" (perhaps keeping the quotes, as well as the delimited timeframe).

One may also ponder the sort order of the results, leaving it either as it is by default (most relevant result first), or choosing most recent or oldest first (which are rather practical).

Last but not least, delimiting the boards to search may also come in handy in order to reduce the scope of the results to the boards we are most interested in to seek the search results from, reducing stress from the search engine as a byproduct.

DuckDuckGo is a fairly popular search engine, but Yandex is also another popular search engine and provides fast and relevant results compared to using Google.
The forum's internal search engine may just be more secure but some of the results are irrelevant and sometimes very slow. need some development on the forum's internal search engine.

The use of DORK will certainly be more specific and help make it easier to find an article with predetermined keywords. The articles that appear will be more relevant and because the target is the bitcointalk.org forum website, then all articles about the keyword "merit system" will appear, as in the example below.
