Okay so what happens next? Will the seized Bitcoin be dumped by the government and crashing the market all the way downhill?
I think it will be returned to Bitfinex because they are the rightful owner and they must have filed a case somewhere. For the meantime, those BTCs will be in the control of the law enforcers while the investigation is ongoing.

If ever I'm wrong and that the Justice Department were allowed to dispose them, I don't think it will be dumped on open market. It will be done through OTC or through an auction just like what happened to the Silk Road BTC.

And based on the images and their lifestyles, they are living big and obviously you have to question where all the wealth is coming.

Why some shiny clothes and sunglasses are suddenly proof of wealth?
I've seen thousands of guys and girls who post like that and some of them work at Aldi or for Uber and other delivery companies.

Quote
Rather, for the period of March 2018 to October 2020, the bulk of the funds received were from approximately five wires from VCE 8, totaling over $758,000.

That gets them each about 12k a month, the average wage in New York is 5.5k, nowhere near enough to live "big".

I don't really understand why most of these people that come to the crazy amount of wealth illegally usually display this stuff on social media like they legitimately got them and that the law will not catch up with them. I hope this "Allegedly" will eventually be confirmed as true and their connections will be established so that they can face the result of their actions from the pain they put others through.

I don't get where poeple here get this impression of them displaying wealth on any of those social media

I've gone through hundreds of posts and I can barely see one or two screaming I have tons of money

I've changed the size. Thanks.

What's with the very large images? You can actually narrow them down by placing width=400 or 500 or whatever size is preferable to you right after [img. Like this, [img width=400]. Perhaps you preferred it this way, but it's a little irritating to the eyes, especially because you posted more than one.

Anyway, I should congratulate the law enforcers for finally seizing the stolen Bitcoin. Although not everything was recovered, at least around 80% has already been confiscated. That's a huge success.

And, unlucky and extremely foolish for both Lichtenstein and Morgan for keeping the private keys in an online account. Both of them are either stupid or too complacent to store online the keys to the wallet where the billions in Bitcoin was stored.

The authorities must be very close to the real culprit.

What I find absolutely baffling is that this woman made herself so visible while laundering money. What was the plan there? Hide in plain sight? Was she just arrogant, thinking she wouldn't get caught? It's so strange.

Most likely it's going to be returned. If the money came from an illegal source it also wouldn't be dumped. It would be treated like coins from Silk Road and put on auction. These auctions usually fetch similar or higher prices than current market value so it's never worth it for people to dump it right away. An auction is one of the safest ways to get a lot of coins at once because you get them all at the same price. If you wanted to buy 100 million of btc on an exchange you'd end up pumping the price and paying more.

As for the alleged hacker, I think this picture posted by someone on her facebook page speaks a thousand words about the situation:

You can see one of her music videos here:

I'm a damn fan now...  I don't know if this girl is the Milli Vanilli of hackers or what.  It seems a bit crazy to me that this is the person who was holding billions of dollars worth of BTC and not a "fall guy", but it's an awesome story.  I guess if you come up on billions of dollars overnight this is the level of not giving a fuck you achieve.  I wish more people were this awesome.  It would make life a lot more fun and interesting.  I hope she's able to bail out and make the most of out of this fame before she's stuck in a cage forever by the powers that be.

Even if they were given the loot to clean and obfuscate it, this is good news for crypto as it shows the bad guys can get caught, and the more they steal the more attention they bring to themselves. I'm inclined to believe there are other parties involved in this, and perhaps as this case develops more light will be shined on accomplices - though it's possible these two will simply be the fall guys to officially close the case for political expediency.

Arrogance is a good way to put it. Come to think about it, while I'm no psychologist and this is a wild guess, it seems this chick could be exhibiting signs of narcissism. Like you point out, why the need, with so much loot, to put herself on social media so ridiculously? This went beyond money. This woman craves attention.
