I am seeking some help along the path of selecting and identifying the parts for a eth miner system.
Currently I have one 3080 running inefficiently in 3 desktop gaming computers.
Due to travel constraints, I have a 2-day window of time to build/configure the GPUs on a single motherboard (running eth protocol coins). I am concerned that being a novice on my first time dealing with multiple (three) GPUs (3080) on one motherboard and delivering power properly, then I am uncertain that I will get all the parts and get it done IN ONE SINGLE PASS.
Can somebody point me to a ready resource (video? doc?) where I can quickly identify all the parts for the proper mining setup. Can y'all help? I could really use some vetted youtube videos that explain what I need. Or maybe there is a post here on bitcointalk that would serve as a good guide.
Generally speaking, are the motherboards marketed for mining built with more robust hardware (or other features) compared to a gaming motherboard? Other than the sheer number of GPUs these miner boards can accommodate, I can guess the mining MB is be designed with loads of fast PCI lanes for a large number of GPUs.
Does anybody have a recommendation for a miner board that could host 3+ GPUs? Perhaps one that takes 6 total? I don't predict that I will have more than 3. But one never knows. I certainly don't need to buy the Asus B250 to accommodate 19 GPUs. haha!
If I have a handful of desktop motherboards with i7 CPUs. Perhaps if I can't get the single mining machine completed, I could put the cards in open frame with these i7 motherboard combos. Each one can host one 3080 each. I guess that's my backup plan to get "something" running. Then I could work on the single board solution. That would not be a failure... it would be a stepping stone toward my goal.
I believe I saw something about PCI splitters? Is that a bad idea?
Do folks who run a mining motherboard with several GPUs also run a mining algo on the CPU? Or do you keep your CPU available for use with the multiple GPU cards?
Are there mining rack features that are more advantageous to seek? I need a rack recommendation, too.
