[EDIT] Ukraine to launch an airdrop / Planned airdrop cancelled

Earlier today, Ukraine government through their official Twitter account announced that an airdrop has been confirmed and would launch from the 3rd of March to all crypto donors



The exact logistics behind such an event seems unclear at this point, but one thing it was certain to do was to attract attention, lots of it. As well as stimulate more donations as people would want to be a part of whatever the Ukrainians are planning. And according to coindesk, this is seemingly working as there has been a spike in donations since the announcement;

Ukraine received over $7 million in crypto donations after the country announced that an airdrop is inbound, according to on-chain data.
• Ukraine received $1.1 million in ether, $6 million in DOT, and other cryptos, after the announcement on Wednesday. This would take the country's total crypto donations to over $40 million.
• Before the airdrop over $33 million in crypto had been donated to Ukraine’s war efforts.

Would be interesting to see how it all plays out, there are speculations that they could be planning to create a custom token/coin, but running a airdrop on this would be difficult as donations were from multiple crypto networks.

Ukraine has canceled the planned airdrop which was announced yesterday and plan to launch NFTs instead, through which people can support their cause. This was announced through the account in charge of crypto donations earlier today;

Some people see this as an attempt to incentivize more donations, but some others are of the opinion that if you donate, you should do so without expecting anything in return, even if it was promised. Opinions?

It is interesting to see how cryptocurrencies are becoming an important asset during war and protests.

Just a few weeks after the protestors in Canada receive lots of cryptocurrency, Ukraine is now receiving more donations to help their war efforts.

It is also interesting to see Ukraine asking binance to freeze russian accounts. I am happy to see binance deny their request, as Russian citizens have nothing to do with their goverment war.

Question: I was looking at their thread, they accept BTC ETH and DOT, afaik.

The problem is that ETH fees are very expensive. Will BTC users be eligible for the airdrop? As they are listening a token, it will be harder to give bitcoin users the airdrop. I think i will make a test using DOT blockchain.

this is already a given fact that scammers will try to lure naive users by posting fake twitter accounts. so before they send something to ukraine, they need to verify that they are dealing with official accts. scammers are good in imitating as they can just add a number or letter to the acct name and still use the same photo or logo.
by the way, they haven't mentioned yet what chain are they going to get the snapshot.

I don't care what I get from them when the giving is to share some economic support for those in need. Don't turn this into a give and take program. Well, I don't know if they are using the donation for the airdrops but I think it is most likely anyways, I understand that there have already been about $33 million worth of crypto donations already before the airdrop announcement and just about $7million worth of donation after the airdrop announcement, how much will the airdrop cost cos this might be to different network or will they do it to just a specific network? I too believe they should make good use of the donations where it is needed the most.

You have to ask yourself several questions, what does this airdrop entail? How will the funds be used, to buy what? Marco Camisani Calzolari has produced several reports regarding the scams created using the war in Ukraine as a shield. The eth network is heavy enough to bear, we will see what they will put in place, surely in situations of this kind something interesting will be born regardless of the purpose.

The point is to aim to attract more of the crypto community into the situation they are in. In the midst of the war that was going on, they apparently still had time to hold an Airdrop. Although the actual donor does not need any kind of reciprocity from Ukraine. Because they give not to be returned with some gifts. Logically, Ukrainian citizens should feel the welfare of the money that can be evenly distributed to meet the necessities of life during difficult times.

I saw the news today. The enthusiasm of the donors is not small, and what makes me curious is what kind of Airdrop will actually be distributed? Very curious about how it is distributed. It's sad and happy feeling seeing crypto taking a center place while whole world unite/divide in a cause. It just shows crypto is much more powerful and stable than individual currencies of nation. And glad to see so many crypto enthusiast donating their money to the people they support.
I think the airdrop would be more of a symbol token of appreciation that something of monitorial value. Would have been great if they were able to reward war based unique NFT collection, but can't expect much in the situation.

The sad part is, when Ukraine is in war and getting 40+ million in donations, I am pretty sure that some guy that created some horrible NFT type of collection could raise even more from investors. One is a scam basically with a promise of making a lot of money, and people realize it is a scam when it is too late and only the project founder makes money and everyone else loses, and the other one is a nation begging for money to cover their expenses.

We all know that Ukraine doesn't really have a lot to offer for many people, and this airdrop could be souvenir for people to hold and say "I helped" basically. But there could have been a lot more donated to them, crypto world is a lot bigger. I gave nearly 50% of my portfolio to them and yet people still ignored Ukraine for some reason.

If our look at the large number of airdrop received, of course this shows the great enthusiasm of the community about the conditions that are happening in the country. Donations will reach the community as long as there are parties who really help to make it happen

The purpose of this airdrop event is most likely to boost its crypto donation from the crypto community. Personally, I'm kinda curious how would the airdrop going on since we all know donations are coming from multiple chains.

No, at the first they only accept BTC, ETH, and USDT (both erc20 and trc20)
Then from 1st March they begin accepting DOT donations

A great idea and great respect for the entire community for such a large amount of funding for Ukraine in such a difficult time.

As for airdrop, as far as I know, subsidies could only be made in Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT. If a new token were to be created, there is no doubt that it would be created on the Ethereum platform. Then you can use bridge for all Bitcoin users:

It seems like this airdrop was giving positive feedback from the cryptocommunity. More donations came and i have been donating to support ukraine as well. This airdrop news has been successful to attract more donations as the total amounts already donated were also increasing rapidly. Im sure that those donators will try to sell Ukraine NFT to the open sea market once they will be getting their airdrop. It's gonna a pretty interesting thing to see what will be happening with it.
This is so good to see crypto community even some big guys in the cryptos united to send more and more donations to Ukraine.
More donation will come as this is just getting started. So many hands are coming to the ukraine.

They are doing it, and I still don't know how many people are doing it for this reason to confuse the concept of donation. But the previous money donations to the crypto market have always received support from the community with a good meaning for more people's lives. Diseases and wars are big problems to be solved, but as with any big problem, there are many other problems that come with it.

Got a point actually. They did open up a donation for multiple address and its fine if the L1 used are all can be open up to metamask since they can do a distribution to either of one this as it would be easy to do a change of network. But they also did on polkadot that is totally different which Im sure they gonna need additional workload to make it count.

This action could be just to get more communities to donate to their fund. In my opinion, maybe they release the NFT collection to pay tribute to the people who have supported them. They do not necessarily have monetary value but spiritual value and this is seen as a gesture of gratitude by the government to those who love peace and do not want war.

I also feel that this is something they are doing to increase donations even more. indirectly, this may be a support from the country for the development of blockchain. I think most people who participate are also aware that they will only invest in this.
