During the covid crisis, I met a man on Facebook, who was friendly and chatty our conversation was normal,so we exchanged numbers and move to Whatsapp and share massages, After some weeks he started introducing me to crypto currency, how it works, how it been used to earn,he ask me to open a binance account, showed me on how to fund my account  he also  introduced me to his platform and persuaded me  to sign up then he showed me how to move the money to a trading platform where it will be invested. I made my first payment which I was seeing on my dashboard clearly and also how I can freely  withdraw it back to my binance account.

On the third that he persuaded me to invest more money so that I will earn bigger but I instead to see and withdraw the first investment before making or investing more but he keep on persuading me so i starting have doubts and bad feelings about it , I decided to open  the investment site to see if my money is safe and can be withdraw but when I open the investment site I found out that my trading site stopped working then I reached out to him, he asked me to contact customer service which I did and they told me that my account was blocked and I need to pay certain amount of money to unlock my funds, which I did then  I try again to withdraw my funds but i couldn't,  i contacted the customer service again they also demanded for more money, At this moment i absolutely knew that I have been scammed.

how it been used to earn,he ask me to open a binance account
When I read this sentence, there's a something wrong with him. It's good he explain you what is crypto and how it's work, but explain how to earn and ask you to open an account is suspicious. It's a stranger or even your best friends, they will not tell you to earn easy money since if they know how to get it... they will keep silent and do it themself. Anyone want to be rich, but no one will ever reveal his secret to be rich.

Re: No social media is safe

No social media is safe.. because these types of scams are mostly spread through social media sites in the first place. And scammers will find more and more enticing ways to find victims; so the only real solution here is to think realistically and in a non-delusional manner.

"if it's too good to be true, it probably is."

Strangers don't have any good intent for you when they PM you first, internet is now full of scammers who pretend to have something good to offer but that's all lies, become the boss of yourself do not listen to strangers or receive any private messages from them.

You need to report this individual's ID to Facebook and also if possible raise a police complaint against him. If you know the scam platform URL then do report that URL to Google. It is a possibility that Google might be displaying the platform link in its search result. Google link - https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/?hl=en

If someone unknown is suddenly wants to be a friend then always remember their intention is wrong. Therefore avoid such conversation.

I don't think you can blame social media for this. You could have fallen for this scam any other way, like seeing an ad on some website or reading about it on a forum promising you big returns by investing in something you don't even know what it is (ie. cryptocurrency). Take token hype for example. We have had lots of people being scammed by ICO, IDO, IBO, IEO, ITO, STO, DeFi, NFT,... on this forum alone!
The only thing about social media is that the scams there are more targeted and they hit up individuals instead of mass scams.

These scammers will never stop so only we have to be careful with our actions, here the scammers earned your trust and scammed your money so never trust anyone even if the person so close to you when it comes to money matters, make the decisions by yourself.

You should name the platform if it is still up to warn other people from using that platform, this is a bad start for you in Cryptocurrency but posting your experience here will help people to understand that social media is not something you ask for advice when it comes to investing, I was introduced to Cryptocurrency from a friend who I know very well, people should only take advice from people who they know personally and always do your own research it's your money, whatever happens, it's your losses.

Dillonhebist, I'm sorry for your bad experience.
You have learned the hard way how many people use the Internet to cheat people.
Nowadays, one really needs to be very careful, and check every investment offer thoroughly.
You should always search the internet and see what others have to say about that investment offer, and also check to see if there is a legal company behind it all.
If you can't get the name of the company or the owner, and there are a lot of negative comments on the Internet, that should be enough of a warning against investing.
It is also important to study the crypto industry and know more about everything, and not believe the stories of others.
You really don't need the help of others to invest in crypto and you can do everything yourself.
I hope that this bad experience did not discourage you and that you will continue to invest, but believing more in yourself than in others.

<…>
If you name the end site they used to scam you through, I’m pretty confident that it will turn out to be similar in nature to other concurrently running sites we can find around, frequently referred to through social media channels. Bear in mind that the media is just that – a channel, in this case, purposedly used to scam, just like any other channel can be. Faceless is shameless.

I bet that the argument used went somewhere along the line of this other platform can offer you much higher returns than you’ll ever get by trading on Binance, providing mind-blowing examples …

This is exactly were the problem stemmed from, i mean doesn't it look good to be true that a random person is so concerned about your financial life and immediately wants to help yo make money, i am afraid things do not work that way, and again this scammers know novices are usually aroused by the mention of crypto, cause they see it at a means to get rich very quickly.

Having said that, the problem here is greed, you hoped you could make money without any effort, no research, no patience, just invest and reap returns, i am pretty sure a part of you knew all along that this offer seems shady, but the 'greedy part' wouldn't let you have a second thought on it, i am sorry you had to learn your lesson the hard way, but the good thing is you did learn a lesson, and if you grow on that, you'll prolly not fall for scam going forward.

Oh dear, if only you would have made some research about cryptocurrencies and related scams then you would have had the chance to avoid this scam with you.
Such scams are quite normal these days where people approach you on social media and persuade you to invest in some crypto platform.
I have myself been contacted by many people on social media platforms such as Instagram, Telegram, Twitter, Reddit etc...
But since I am a long term member of this forum I am aware of the most of the scams and have never been scammed except once (Bitconnect).

We all learn, one way or the other. It's a pity some get to be scammed first before they learn. In this case, OP has  learnt the lesson they paid for. For me, even when I know someone for a long time and they're trying to introduce me to a trading platform, I get skeptical and on the alert. Let alone when I'm being introduced to a trading platform by a random stranger of over a few weeks. OP made themselves an easy target. I hope the amount scammed wasn't much anyway. Report both the trading site and the user's Facebook handle and then move on.

From what I read, it seemed like you got "too attached" to whoever this man is that made you move your money to his "platform". OP should learn that nobody would give a crap about one's money unless s/he will give it to somebody.

Scammers are everywhere, OP. Even if you get attached to someone, never ever entrust your money to a person you just met in social media. I wouldn't even entrust my money to my friends in a blink of an eye.

I met a man on Facebook, who was friendly and chatty our conversation was normal,so we exchanged numbers and move to Whatsapp and share massages, After some weeks he started introducing me to crypto currency, how it works, how it been used to earn,he ask me to open a binance account, showed me on how to fund my account  he also  introduced me to his platform
This is literally all you needed to know you were being scammed.  You do not randomly meet someone who is friendly, suddenly introduces you to making money and all of that for free.  That is one in a million and I would take it with the biggest existing grain of salt.

There is a saying.  When something is offered to you for free, you are the product.  Big, true words.  You have been sold a scam.  Unfortunately, most of the victims falling to these scams are horny men hoping to get rich overnight and a one night stand with some sexy Asian woman who contacted them all of a sudden while this 'Asian woman' never even existed on the other end of the conversation.  They get what they get though, these scams are pretty obvious if you use basic, common sense.

That's the usual scam that they'll directly hit you a personal message. At first, they'll make rapport so that you'll feel confident as if they really care for you.
But in reality, it's part of the scam so that when they ask a favor, you'll easily going to follow them and you're kind to them because they seemed kind to you. As said, that's part of the trick, to play with your emotion. They're on different social medias and as well as telegram and discord groups.

These scammers will never stop so only we have to be careful with our actions, here the scammers earned your trust and scammed your money so never trust anyone even if the person so close to you when it comes to money matters, make the decisions by yourself.
Scammers have many dimensions of deceiving people and especially newbies that needs instant money and multiplication of finance, what normally lead's them to scam platform is greedy of making more than capital via trading investment, how can op continues to fund account someone created and at the same time someone will be persuading you to fund an account and you continue to dance the person's tune, what i will tag his level of scamming is ignorant, because everyone is smart enough for online platform investment that you don't know the profile of the platform, I don't think such is still in existence.

As a matter of fact, you have to be pretty naïve and gullible to fall for these kinds of scams.

There are always going to be scam artists out there. They will find new ways to obtain and use your information. They will find new ways to get you to do things you might not otherwise do. This type of scam is actually quite common and has existed for a long before social media sites became a popular part of the online world. And these types of scams will continue as long there are greedy, immoral, impulsive, gullible, or just plain dumb individuals out there seeking easy ways to make money. So, in that sense, it’s likely that you are going to have to deal with such scammers in some form or fashion for the rest of your life.
