Is there any old ASIc miner either for BTC, Litecoin or other that's still profitable today? The ones I saw are only good for those that have free electricity, I'm asking on behalf of a friend who seems to have interest in ASICS over GPUs, believe me I've tried talking him out of ASICS.

Short answer "NONE", sorry you are trying to find a cheap ASIC miner I guess but they aren't profitable at all, if your friend needs one he or she should be ready to spend thousands of dollars on A10 pro and other new ASICs.

When people ask me about mining, I suggest everyone learn how to use the miner's calculator.
Introduce your friend to this data.

If he wants to try mining as a hobby, then let him buy Antminer S9. This is the most maintainable ASIC.

Trying ASIC mining for fun only makes sense if you aren't paying any dime for electricity bill, you want BTC or LTC buy GPU and mine ETH then get paid in BTC or LTC, for example you can mine ETH direct on Nicehash pool and get paid in BTC.

Let him do his own research and make his own decisions, he's just looking for a way to shift blame if it
doesn't work out.

But seriously does anyone really "ask for a friend", and if they are actually asking for a friend why is it always
necessary to say so? A question is a question, it doesn't matter who's asking it or for whom.

Let your friend make their own decisions since they are not ready to listen to your own fact, if ASIC is what they want let them buy it do not force them to buy something else because if eventually something unexpected happens the blame will be yours and you will regret.

What's wrong about asking on behalf of a friend? I've knew about crypto mining for some time already and this friend is trying to say that someone is getting better profit with ASIC mining which I don't believe, bringing this question to the forum can enlighten me more if I was wrong, maybe there is actually better ASIC miners out there?

You are right to ask for advice. It's free Smiley I also gave mining advice to my friends, but then they started blaming me for their mistakes. If your friends are idiots in IT, and you want to be friends with them further, then it is better to refrain from advice and help for them.

It's better to talk about crypto in the vicinity of those that are techy or study IT skills because they will understand better don't waste your time on people that are too hooked with the past way of living.

Good enough, you did your best to advise him which one is better between an ASIC and a GPU. Let him buy the ASIC he seems interested in and once he gets fucked up, there is no one to blame. I really wonder why some people are so rigid.

Even if he did a little online research, he should know the Pros and Cons of using an ASIC vs GPU.

Guess if he just use the search function here on the Forum it should be getting him all the answers that he is searching for.

@OP
If your friend will be doing mining for profit it would be better just to buy the Coin he wants if he is new to mining.
This will be save him some time and maybe also making some misstake or losing money with it.

The L3+ makes money.

It is the best old asic to buy.

on ebay for 600 to 650. buy it now.

decent sellers.

they use about 800 watts.

I still run 11 of them. along with the L7

800 watts is 20 kwatts.  or
4 dollars power at 20 cents a kwatt
3 dollars power at 15 cents a kwatt
2 dollars power at 10 cents a kwatt

it will earn 90 cents  in ltc and 3.60 in doge or 4.50 a day.

so if you have 15 cent power you clear 1.50 a day or 600 in 400 days which would be close to break even

if you have 10 cent power you clear 2.50 a day or 600 in 240 days

fairly quiet .
