ive got an opportunity to buy asics S9k 14T for $650us, the miners are used, 6months according to the seller, is there a chance to see the real used time? also i bought some gpus to build mi own rig, do you think is more profitable to buy 1 ASIC for the price before told, or should i keep the gpus for the same price, 3060ti new ($600 us each). Im from argentina so the electricity price is not a problem. Im a noob in this so any response is welcome, in fact thats why im looking to buy the asic cause i only have to plug it in and configure it. If i go with the gpus id have to build it from the beginning.

My own calculator said you've wasted that 650$ you spent on that S9k ASIC miner, the profit from that miner is 0.03$ while the power consumption bill is 2.79$ per day, the electricity cost of mining with a RTX3060ti is 0.29$ and the profit is 1.93$ presently.

Depends on what coin you want to mine !
For the long Term id would say take the GPUs and build a Rig and if they are not getting damaged you can sell them again for some good money i guess.
With the ASIC its for sure a bit easier to set it up and mining but you dont know if the used ASIC has some damage already and laters you will not get a money back.
Its just my opinion , have the seller already sold some mining stuff and maybe ask him about the Miner.

My power cost is 0.018$/kWh i cant understand the math you ve done, can you explain it to me please. According to whattomine and others it shows the asic gives me more profit if i compare.

Ask yourself this question.

Why is the other person selling the ASIC if its still profitable according to your calculation?
IMO, GPUs are more flexible as compared to ASICs. You can mine a number of altcoins using a GPU depending on the profitability.

The problem with ASIC miners is they consume too much electricity, even the Avalon 1066 with 50TH can give you 10$ per day but whopping 7.8$+ is going for electricity bill because this miner use 3256watt power, buy ASIC miners makes no sense unless your electricity bill is zero.

Having a bit of FOMO?

You've got GPUs, use them. Get some experience mining then decide if you want to
experiment with ASICs. There will be plenty of other opportunities to buy used ASICs.
Learn how ro recognize the good ones.

GPU wins all the way, less power consumption and better value for your money, cheaper and easier to sell since GPUs are not limited to mining only like ASIC miners, stay away from ASIC miners if one have a problem that's the end of mining for you until you send them out for fixing and wait for weeks to get it back.

Its a case to case basis on what coins you are mining and if your goal is long term/short term there’s a pros and cons on this discussion and we should not be one sided based on our own preferences.

But considering you are mining altcoin, you will need a more flexible and efficient miner so GPU will surely win on this comparison since ASIC miner used is very limited and not flexible on many altcoins. Don’t waste money on ASIC because you will just consume more energy with less output.

You can read detailed comparison about this 2 type of rigs on the article below.

Even if BTC or LTC is your main target it still make more sense to mine ETH with GPU and convert the ETH to BTC or LTC is you want, the best ASIC miners are way too costly like those A10+ ASIC, to me ASIC mining isn't worth it unless price come down.

Now you don’t need to buy a video card, because the payback period is very long and Ethereum has launched the last tesnet. ASIC S9k 14T is very old and has not been produced for a long time.
Asik is much easier to set up and start mining, but it is very noisy and this is a problem. If increased noise and high energy consumption are not a problem for you, then compare the prices of more modern ASICs.
I understand that you can buy 10 used S9k 14T ASICs and get 140 TH ASICs with 16 kW power consumption for $6500 or 1 new modern 140 TH ASICs for $15000-20000 with 4 kW power consumption.
For the first option, you should have almost free electricity Smiley

I hope you have free electricity if not then you will be milking electricity which is stealing, there is no free electricity in this world to be honest unless you go green energy which will still cost you alot of money, buy 3060ti they are better in every freaking way.

s9k 14t $650?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??
Are you serious?
wtf! ! ! ! Too expensive, okay? s9k
$250 I have as much as you want!
The s9k doesn't have a brand new one because the factory hasn't produced it for a long time, only refurbished machines.
I am a pro mining equipment supplier from China,so i can tell u that the price is simply too high!

Hands down gpus.  Those asics will never get you your money back at this point, where's the GPS will and always have resale value outside the crypto world.  So all in I'd definitely stick with the cards and avoid an s9 like the plague.

Yeah i don´t understand why people think that over 600$ is cheap for an S9. I have bought many of them for 100€ in 2019 and sold it last year for around 500€, but now i would never buy any s9 again, mabye for 50$ but not more  Cheesy

Once an ASIC miner becomes old they are useless, no resale value at all which is not good, buy GPU instead of ASIC miner I hope you listen to the advice on here you will thank us later, ASIC is bad.
