I'm a huge fan of surf since I was a kid and I realized that are no threads of the sport of the gods  
So now we have one, and I think I'm not the only one here that love surfing and follow the Word Surf League, we can discuss here about the 2022 season, the events, surfers and more

What is the World Surf League?
It's the name of the company and also the name of the most important championship of professional surf.

It's divided in 11 events around the world, there's a Men's championship and Women's championship.

Betting on Surf
I always wonder how to bet on surf, and I found here: https://www.mybookie.ag/sportsbook/surf/ - they accept Bitcoin and another cryptos
It's not advice, I'll test this website later, if anyone already tested, or if you know another website, please share with us.

My opinion:
Last year Gabriel Medina won the championship, he's probably the best professional surfer, but there's not too much advantage, there's a lot of new guys trying to beat him, and this year he will probably take easy and not participate in all events.
I'm thinking to bet on Filipe Toledo, this guy is insane and he almost won last year, this is probably the year to win, the biggest adversary will be John John Florence, and with Gabriel Medina out of the fight, this is the best chance.

About women's tour, I'm with Tatiana Weston-Webb, she's motivated enough to try the title this year

I happen to be not a big follower of that sport - surfing. But I have the opportunity to live within an hour's drive of one of the best surf spots in the world - Peniche.

But, I'll stay tuned for more details of this competition to stay tuned here.

It's a shame the topic was opened after the stage in Portugal, I could have tried to get additional information. But if you want to know more about the region, just say so.

I only followed surfing for quite some time, and amazed that they even have betting lines for this sport. I do agree that it's the sport of the gods, because you are literally going against nature itself whenever you ride the waves. I always find myself cool whenever I can stay on the surfboard for a few seconds, but these guys on these tournaments are really something else.

Personally, I never heard of that bookie. And if ever they're good for such events, let us know. Only a handful of bookies cover such events nowadays and I think we are missing a lot due to limited numbers of bookies.

It seems they changed the season format which traditionally ended in big waves at pipeline in hawaii.

I followed surfing but gave it up around the time Kelly Slater won his 11th world championship.

For gambling purposes I would count the number of big wave and tube riding events versus the number of small wave trick events. Surfers tend to excel in either big or small waves. Its rare to excel in both.

Brazilians are IMO training the hardest and are usually the best athletes on tour. They also have the highest win percentage AFAIK.

Neither australia nor america has had anyone emerge who can consistently put together the kind of runs brazilians can. Aside from Kelly Slater.

It is true that Brazil has many top surfers, but athletes from Hawaii and Australia are not far behind.

Now, really recently the biggest ones have been the Brazilians. But it also has very good conditions to practice this sport.

In Portugal they are starting to focus more and more on big waves, despite being good at small/normal waves.

Brazil took home 5 out 7 world titles.

While there are many great surfers from all nations of the world.

Brazilians tend to have advantages in athleticism and paddling. They train the most and seem to have the best results from training. Which translates to surfing more heats without tiring, catching more waves and moving more in the water to get a good position and priority.

When I was a kid I surfed the north shore of hawaii. I did a few amateur surf contests. So I do know a little about the history and competition side of things.

Yes, it has been difficult to compete against Brazilian athletes. They are very strong right now.

I think that this year the competition will be more balanced, there were still no repeats in the victories of the stages, and that's why it's more difficult to see someone standing out.

Kanoa Igarashi lost to Mick Fanning, 3x world champion and surfing in the house AUS (but retired) 

Kelly Slater is 50 years old right now, and he'll compete at the same level on massive and tubular waves, like Hawaii, G-land and Tahiti
The new generation of surfers, specially brazilians and John John Florence are extremely good with medium and small waves, doing aerials, and this is the progressive side of surf the judges are giving attention.

Filipe Toledo is my bet, he's in good shape, motivated and last year he almost won the tour, now it's his time.

Pay attention to Gabriel Medina, John John, Filipe and Italo Ferreira, from now I think they will be on top 5

So yes, my favorite bet is Filipe Toledo, and he almost won the event, but Griffin Colapinto was the winner and Filipe 2nd place
Now we have 2 brazilian at top 5


The next event is in the home of brazilians, Rio de Janeiro  , there's a huge chance to Filipe win, but the chances are equal to Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina, it's a good condition of waves to them.

I considered a good odd of 8.0 due to the performance of Filipe Toledo I saw last year.

It was exciting to watch the finals, hoping to be a brazilian winner, and the finals could not be better, 2 brazilians, Italo Ferreira and Filipe Toledo.

Stephanie Gilmore deserves attention too, this is her 8th world title

I think this was my longest bet haha, and 8.0 was awesome, I wish I had more money to put

North Americans and Australians dominated the championship for a long time, since 1964. If you want I can post here more info about all champions and countries.

But since 2014 with the title of Gabriel Medina, the "brazilian storm" took the world tour.
Brazil were always competitive in surf, but since 2014 it's incredible how many surfers are out there, surfing in great style.

To the next year, it's better if I post here one week before the championship starts, but I think the title will be in one of these hands:
