I am trying to figure out the background of Aaron Davis (founder of Metamask), but I couldn't find any information about him online. I learned he used to work for Apple^[1], so I guess maybe he is from the US, otherwise, it doesn't make sense for a decentralized extension to be a resistance to people.
Other alternatives for communicating with Ethereum DApps are available, your recovery phrase will get you all of your private keys on Metamask, kindly export them into another one.

It's horrible to read such a complaints from affected users in addition to all those users affected from fake copies of Metamask addon or asked to connect their metamask account to such a phishy website.
In fact, this is Weird news. MetaMask is one of the successful projects in the crypto field. Personally i don't remember hearing any compliance against it.

The news isn't widely spread till now and can't find info about it.

Never heard of it. But will look into this, Ive been a metamask user and so far I dont have much complain when using it except sometime when RPC isnt working. But the problem on stuck or block transaction if its real then its a serious problem. Everyone has been using this wallet for altcoin and for me its the most convenient one but if its compromise metamask should give feedback or response on this kind of issue.

Well, it seems that it's on the news since last week that they've been blocking some areas of concern. I still don't know how they've become like that.
I'm looking for some threads and articles that will explain how and why metamask has become like this. There were only a few articles about it and I've got to do some digging as to why they've acted like being centralized such as what OP has brought into attention.

True I've came across this news online as well, it's spreading faster on twitter too as many people are retweeting this, a friend stopped using metamask already because of this and the funny part is metamask team aren't saying anything about this yet.

until now this news is still gray because most of the news is still within the scope of twitter and some media which incidentally are still local in scope and this should matemask provide feedback that can answer the users or maybe they still don't know about this or are still studying and doing research with what really happened. and I myself never heard as a metemask user until now about a problematic matemask

This is really bad for the future of cryptocurrencies because Metamask is one of the most trusted Dapp which is now changing for some reason, don't know the actual reason but it could be due to the government regulations, what if every wallets goes into the control of government someday?

I do not know how their technology works but for tokens in bounty management I use them. In fact for some established coins I use them with my Ledger wallet. My question is - with Ledger wallet am I still in danger?

No you should be fine with other wallets. Just avoid using metamask or connect to it via another wallet until things get more clear.
The most doubtful part is that there is no official announcement from the team working on it. Honestly, i didn't think that this is even possible with metamask without having access to the navigator in which it's installed.

There is open source alternative in making called, 'tally'[1] - there will be incentives for people to move from metamask and also airdrop for people who swap in early access.

This is interesting, many people said Metamask is open source non custodial wallet... it can be said as the best free wallet for Ethereum and other chains token, similar like how Electrum is the best free wallet for Bitcoin. But from this news we need to learn Metamask doesn't fully open source, similar like Trust wallet... partially open and closed source. It seems you must have a hardware wallet if you want to hold altcoins.

Care to explain more why do you think Metamask is partially open sourced? Their browser extension as does the mobile app are still being maintained and developed publicly, seems they are still going that way for me. The issue is their RPC node which is Infura, which is the one who responsible. The problem is when Metamask wipes the RPC custom settings functionally, then it will get worse.

This is caution, so forward on MetaMask could access denied our transactions also restricted any region to use their services as centralized exchange does! This is horrible feelings after reading such statement from affected users. Those countries yet not affected but might be possible also affected later on, should make a move and report it to their administration. Anyway, Is it still safe to use or need to pick any other options?

How sure are you that it is Metmask itself that is blocking the people from sanctioned countries? Is it not perhaps the browser or the IP address that gets blocked before it hits Metamask?

From what i could understand, even by using a VPN, it's not possible to use the app from one of the restricted regions.
The extension becomes more powerful to detect the ip from the operating system of your device. This proves that MetaMask wasn't a decentralized app since its lunch and that it can be controlled by a centralized power.
Till now, it's not yet clear which regions are banned from using the app and for what reasons, as Russian users seems to be not in the list of the restricted countries. However we can find Iran and Syria as well, and this was confirmed by users from my local board who live in Syria.

Looks like you misunderstood the Metamask problem here, you better read the responses of some of the members above or read the full news. This also only happens on the ETH network, not with other networks. The only solution is to replace it with an alternative RPC or run your own local node, then your Metamask will be decentralized again. Find alternative RPC here: https://rpc.info. There are some RPC server that may not be listed, please use google search.

I can't say anything more because i stopped using Metamask years ago, but having those issues now? i think i will definitely prevent from using this once again as i planned of doing recently but the problem now makes me decide the opposite ways

I can't say anything more because i stopped using Metamask years ago, but having those issues now? i think i will definitely prevent from using this once again as i planned of doing recently but the problem now makes me decide the opposite ways

Some of my NFT collection are in metamask and so far I didn't experience on what OP trying to point out and what we can say here is maybe he pick the wrong metamask since cloning it is so rampant and might he got caught by one of them.

But eventhough we didn't experience this kind of issue still we need to be careful on the balances or collection we store there and always vigilant upon clicking the right link and avoid get phished.
