I'm trying to run cgminer in ubuntu 11.10 and I keep getting
bash: ./cgminer-cpuonly: cannot execute binary file.  Not sure why but I'm new to using ubuntu.

are you using the right version? ie 32 bit vs 64 bit. pretty sure the ubuntu version is 64 bit only.
