Trezor just pushed a new update (change log[1]), and among the changes is full node support for Electrum server. It was possible to connect to your own node before, but only using Blockbook (Trezor's software).

You just have to go to the Settings > Crypto > Select "Bitcoin" and then choose "Custom Electrum Server":

I haven't tried this yet, but I would like to hear some feedback from anyone who did since this is still a beta feature.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Good thing about it is that onion addresses can also be used and with enabling Tor in settings you are improving privacy a lot.
One more interesting update released in latest update is that it's now possible to sign and verify messages in Trezor Suite using Electrum standard.
There are two format options to choose Trezor and Electrum, making it compatible with Electrum wallet.
Only one more thing I am waiting to see in Trezor... that is release of their own secure element.

I haven't tried this yet, but I would like to hear some feedback from anyone who did since this is still a beta feature.
Same here [my node is a few weeks behind and my internet has been acting up since yesterday], but I did manage to find a "user" who reported a bug on someone else's thread about a slightly different issue:

  • I have a similar issue. Updated to 22.3.2 and connected to Electrum Server. Sent a BTC transaction from Trezor Suite, the total is correct, but the transaction history ends with March 16 and does not include today’s transaction. Interesting is that, if I search the transaction ID, I can get it to show up. But it goes away if I close the search.

I have problems using EPS.
Server is listening, when I connect using electrum ( --server 127.0.0.1:50002:s) I have no problems, but Trezor Suite cannot connect. Or it can, but does no show any funds - never-ending spinning green circle (with disabled TOR - when it is enables I receive connection error).

I don't understand why someone wouldn't just use electrum if they wanted to be connecting to a particular electrum server. I feel like this is somewhat trying to reinvent a solution that already exists.

Were you using a wallet with a passphrase by any chance? Someone reported a slightly similar issue on Github prior to its release: Eliminate the risk of getting stuck when loading a hidden wallet

The signing part it's flawless, but I keep getting the following error whenever I'm trying to verify a message [Native SegWit] that I signed on Electrum [4.2]:

Btw, they've made a dedicated blog post about "Connecting your wallet to a full node" and on the very last paragraph, I think there's a hint that they might support Bitcoin Core in the future!

Because people want diversity and more options, and Trezor Suite is offering good open source alternative with added Tor settings enabled for privacy.
If anything bad happens with one wallet you can always switch and use alternative option.
Electrum is good wallet but it's not perfect, and if you already using Trezore hardware wallet you will use Trezor Suite also.

I didn't test it myself and I can't open the image you sent (it keeps loading) so I can't see what's the issue exactly.
I also checked Trezor Suite github page but I couldn't find any similar reported issue, so maybe you can make one and explain what happened.

No, even when I open "normal" account, the problem occurs.
I do not have anything in logs of EPS - maybe I will try monitor port and see if there is any transmission.
Of course in EPS I have defined the proper pub for the account - even if I would not do this, it would be a different kind of problem (at least I would see errors in EPS log).

I don't know if you have seen this, but Trezor has written a blog post explaining how to connect Trezor Suite to a full node.
Check out Connecting your wallet to a full node.
It's quite a long piece. I suggest going through it step by step. Maybe there is a setting or option somewhere that you need to edit or get rid of for it to work.

Does the Trezor Suite offer any features that electrum does not? Electrum already offers the ability to connect to electrum servers via tor.

There isn't any reason why anything "would happen" to electrum software, considering that it is run locally, and users are not required to upgrade when new releases come out.

For someone who's only dealing with BTC? No, not really. In fact, the Trezor suite seems to be missing some good features: canceling a transaction, sweeping, etc.

Yes it does.
It has native support option for using Tor inside their app for increasing your privacy and security.
Than again, it's far from perfect and it doesn't have coin control yet, but they are actively working on that and on coinjoin, something that Electrum wallet doesn't have.
I am not supporting any altcoins, but I have to be honest and say that other people use them, so I think Trezor is probably one of the best open source multi-coin wallets today, and Electrum is only supporting Bitcoin.
Just stating the facts, nobody is forcing you to use it.

Yes it does.
It has native support option for using Tor inside their app for increasing your privacy and security.
Tor wont increase your security. Electrum also allows users to use a proxy to have electrum connect to the internet, and you could use tor as a proxy.

Than again, it's far from perfect and it doesn't have coin control yet, but they are actively working on that and on coinjoin, something that Electrum wallet doesn't have.
I think that is a pretty compelling argument to not use the trezor suite. The lack of coin control is far more detrimental to privacy than not using tor.

I am not supporting any altcoins, but I have to be honest and say that other people use them, so I think Trezor is probably one of the best open source multi-coin wallets today, and Electrum is only supporting Bitcoin.
Just stating the facts, nobody is forcing you to use it.
There are multiple forks of electrum for various altcoins. Not all (none?) are written by ThomasV, the creator of electrum, but I have not heard of major issues with any of the legitimate forks of electrum for the various altcoins.

Does the Trezor Suite offer any features that electrum does not?
-snip-

For someone who's only dealing with BTC? No, not really. In fact, the Trezor suite seems to be missing some good features: canceling a transaction, sweeping, etc.

Right. As I mentioned in the past, I feel like trezor is just trying to reinvent the wheel. I don't see this as a major improvement.

I didn't test it myself and I can't open the image you sent (it keeps loading) so I can't see what's the issue exactly.
It's just the cropped version of the error I typed last week and it seems that the same thing also applies to messages that are signed from Electrum 4.2.1.

I also checked Trezor Suite github page but I couldn't find any similar reported issue, so maybe you can make one and explain what happened.
https://github.com/trezor/trezor-suite
I'll probably do it in their forum instead [it's easier for me Grin].

I do not have anything in logs of EPS - maybe I will try monitor port and see if there is any transmission.
I hope you already found a way to deal with the issue in question [I wanted to run it as well, but due to various reasons, I've given up (looks like I have to wait for direct Bitcoin Core support)].

Using EPS with anything other than Electrum has also been very hit and miss...

I've just come back from an extended period "offline"... my Umbrel server is still ticking along nicely... and I'm happy to report that simply copy/pasting the onion URL from Umbrel using then "Connect Wallet -> Electrum Wallet (Desktop)" option into the Bitcoin Settings in Trezor Suite (Settings -> Crypto -> Bitcoin) worked perfectly (After I remembered to actually turn on the Tor proxy... Roll Eyes LOL)

Trezor Suite connected without any trouble and it all seems to be working pretty much seamlessly. Keen to see if they do end up with Bitcoin Core support tho, that would also be kinda neat.

I do not have anything in logs of EPS - maybe I will try monitor port and see if there is any transmission.
I hope you already found a way to deal with the issue in question [I wanted to run it as well, but due to various reasons, I've given up (looks like I have to wait for direct Bitcoin Core support)].

No, and on their support page all they wrote are so obvious things that I even do not want to waste time to mention them  Angry

Using EPS with anything other than Electrum has also been very hit and miss...

Eh.. yes. But installation of electrumx is not so easy for Windows and as I may easily use it with Electrum, I will stay with that for now.

Did you try your connection with both enabled and disabled TOR in Trezor Suite?

This is very true... I actually found it was just easier to setup ElectrumX using WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and Ubuntu Tongue Roll Eyes

Actually, now that I think of it, I wasn't using ElectrumX at all... I was using electrs (but still running under Ubuntu using WSL)

Umbrel forces TOR only... so it's not an option to disable it in Trezor if I want to run it through the Electrum Server on my Pi/Umbrel Node.

I could probably get ElectrumX electrs back up and running fairly easily under WSL to test a "non-TOR" setup, but I shut it all down when I setup the Umbrel node... and I'm kinda time limited at the moment Undecided

If anything bad happens with one wallet you can always switch and use alternative option.
Electrum is good wallet but it's not perfect, and if you already using Trezore hardware wallet you will use Trezor Suite also.
However, if you're using Trezor to largely mitigate the risks of using a wallet like Electrum, having two instances of your wallet would largely take away from the security benefits of a hardware wallet. Obviously, if you want to be using the Trezor device in less secure locations, and then using your Electrum wallet elsewhere, I could probably see some benefit to that. Also, for matter of UI, the Trezor Suite probably wins hands down for most people. I do like minimalism though, which I think the Trezor Suite has drifted from the earlier days.

Although, I no longer have any windows machines. When Microsoft introduced the WSL it was an absolute godsend for any problems you came across with Windows natively. Especially, if you're familiar with Linux systems already.

Taproot
Worth including the link to Taproot's page on the Trezor Wiki for anyone that's unfamiliar with Taproot or how it was implemented via Trezor.

So, at the end I have finally removed EPS and installed electrs (using WSL) - it costs around 35Gb, but now it works (I mean connection from Trezor Suite). And because of other additional benefit (full scan, not only predefined wallets etc), I will stay with that.

I just hope one day developers (both electrs and electrumx) will make it simpler to install under pure Windows.
