Hello,

I created a 2/3 multisig wallet using Electrum and 3 Ledger Nano S devices as a test, using them in color-coded order (1) green, (2) orange, (3) black to set the wallet up.

The 2/3 multisig wallet receives bitcoin as expected, but when I try to send bitcoin most attempts fail -- the only successful combination is (1) green then (2) orange, the same first then second combination I used when configuring the wallet initially.

Starting with orange fails immediately and starting with black fails immediately too. Starting with green works partially with a success message after the green verification, but if I attempt to use the black device second it fails.

This is the error message:

Electrum cannot pair with your Ledger. Before you request bitcoins to be send to addresses in this wallet, ensure you can pair with your device, or that you have its seed (and passphrase, if any). Otherwise all bitcoins you receive will be unspendable.

What do I need to do to ensure that any 2 of 3 hardware devices used for the initial setup can be used to send bitcoin?

Thanks! -Dan
Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Unfortunately Ledger wallets tend not to lend themselves very well to a multi-sig set up. I found a GitHub issue which seems to be identical to yours, though: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/4199

Try the solution suggested by SomberNight (Electrum dev) here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/4199#issuecomment-377306332. If Electrum is looking for the first Ledger Nano while you have the second connected, then close the prompt and it should move on to looking for the second Ledger Nano.

This was supposed to be fixed many versions ago though, so I'm not certain this solution will actually work. I also note this comment from Jameson Lopp on a similar issue he is having: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/6541#issuecomment-683148853. Based on that comment, try having the Ledger Nano connected before you open Electrum, and see if that makes any difference.

Really appreciate the quick reply -- I will attempt that solution and work through the other Github issues to see if any tactics work.

Thanks again! -Dan
