Which will be your favourite between 7x rx580 8gb rig or a 6x gtx1660 rig, the AMD can give 210MH @900watt and the gtx1660 rig can give 150MH @ 420watt, it's a long term mining rig making ROI back isn't the top priority

If long term than i would avoid Nvidia 1660 because it only has 6GB vram - enough for 2 years eth mining. Buy RX6600 or RX6600xt. 6x RX 6600XT give you 195mh @ 500w.

And when you only can choose between your 2 options - i would go for the 7x rx580

It depends, if the 7x rx580 is cheaper then it's worth going for than the Nvidia build, you need to consider how much your electricity bill costs because the AMD rig will draw more power but future proof the 8GB RX580 wins.

The Ellesmere RX 400/500 cards will not be future-proof. They are only good at ETH, which will become irrelevant after PoS. After PoS, Nvidia cards will be the best since they perform well on multiple coins. The other problem is the RX 580's won't be efficient. Efficiency will really matter after the PoS crash, since revenues will crash and power cost is much more important. If you reduce power cost by 20%, you can probably make 20-30% more profit. Even if your strategy is to mine & hold, you'll be able to stick to that strategy for longer if the power bill is lower. Finally, these cards are 5-6 years old, so it's very likely a lot of them will fail at that age.

I don't like the GTX 1660's or any card with < 8GB or VRAM. Some algos benefit or require 8GB+, and new coins will probably be built with larger VRAM in mind. The 1660 isn't that efficient as well.

I think if you want to build a rig now, the best choices are the RTX 3060 LHR, RTX 3080 LHR or RTX 2070S/2080. The LHR won't matter because ETH will be dead. Even if you mine ETC, LHR is great at dual mining, so you can earn as much as an FHR card that only mines ETC. LHR cards will fall less in value than FHR (& especially AMD) after PoS and they're backed more by the gaming market.

After the PoS crash, newer AMD like the RX 6700 or 6800 might be decent because they're OK at non-ETH algos, while probably being very cheap and having decent efficiency.

1. Rx580 do 32MH on Ethereum Classic
2. They are good for FiroPow and Ravencoin as well.

The other coins that the 1660 do better on is Flux and Ethereum Classic, I think the battle between these two is draw.

In terms of mining power/hash, i don't see all this big difference, personally i would opt for the 1660s which, even if they cost a little more, are a couple of years more recent and perhaps consume less energy

The Rx 580 8 GB are good cards for mining Ethereum and when Ethereum if not anymore (which I highly doubt) then there is Ethereum Classic which will always be here.If you mine Ethereum you make 8.5 USD daily with the Rx 580 8 GB cards while you make 5.9 USD daily with the 1660 cards. You need to have a really huge energy cost in order to opt for the 1660 at least I would opt for them only if my energy cost would be really high, otherwise no need to make like 75-80 USD less in a month which translates to near 1000 USD less in a year.

All crypto mining softwares still supports rx580s they are capable and they will remain capable for longer too

1. Rx580 do 32MH on Ethereum Classic
2. They are good for FiroPow and Ravencoin as well.

The other coins that the 1660 do better on is Flux and Ethereum Classic, I think the battle between these two is draw.
The only reason the RX 580's are still profitable is because power cost is a small fraction of revenue right now. But that will change after PoS, when suddenly electricity eats up 60-70% of your earnings instead of 20-25% on the RX 580. After PoS, these cards simply won't be anywhere near as efficient as the newer models. They aren't that good at FiroPow or RVN. According to WTM, no coin except ETC comes close to the profit on ETH. Come on man, it's a 6 year old architecture on an outdated 14nm die, when we have 7nm/8nm and are progressing to 5nm this year. It would be a great choice in 2018 (I bought over a hundred of them), but not in 2022.

The GTX 1660 isn't much more efficient than the RX 580 and isn't much better on non-ETH coins. Rig overhead costs per card are higher than if you bought RX 6600 XT's or RTX 2070's.

I still prefer those 1660 over rx580, this Nvidia card with hynix memory delivers 27MH with just 60watts compare to the extra 3MH more on rx580 that takes over 100watt from wall.

Is there any GPU that's much better on other algorithm than RX vega 56 and 64 for autolykos algorithm and the RTX 2080 Ti for Flux coin? It's all same story with every graphic cards out there ETH is superior at mining than others.

Thanks for your response, the thing is those rx580 are for selling at 1660$ while the Nvidia 6 GPU 1660 are 1700$ the rx580 seems cheaper here since it's 7 pieces and more hashrate ready but high power consumption Vs those Nvidia, I've decided to go with the Nvidia cards anyway, thank you all.

237$ per rx580 8gb? That's a very good offer for 30MH per GPU I hope these graphic cards are in good shape? Do not buy rx580 used becaus they have problems

1. There are used RX480 that's flashed to RX580, hiveOS will uncover this truth.
2. Rx580 have driver issues and you will surely run into them.
3. They consume more power and run hotter too

If all these can be handled well then go for the rx580.

The cards that are most balanced on all algorithms are Nvidia LHR. They cost less up front because they're LHR, at least today. After the PoS crash, LHR and FHR cards will be the same price, because ETH will be unmineable. So if you're building a rig today, better to go with LHR. I would choose the RTX 3080 Ti LHR or RTX 3060 LHR (better dual mining potential).

If you're not interested in NV LHR, I recommend RTX 2000 or 3000 FHR cards that have the best compute + memory power efficiency. They are the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090.

The next gen RTX 4000 / RX 7000 series won't have much better memory bandwidth, but NV will be 50% more power efficient and AMD will be 80% more power efficient. They'll do better on core-heavy algos like RVN or dual mining. But these cards will be extremely expensive, while used RTX 3000's or used RX 6000's will be really cheap.

I still prefer those 1660 over rx580, this Nvidia card with hynix memory delivers 27MH with just 60watts compare to the extra 3MH more on rx580 that takes over 100watt from wall.

I agree. I don't like either of these two cards, but the GTX 1660 is better.
