While browsing the forum I wanted to see if there were any threads that were not being responded to in "Beginners & Help", so I attempted to do an ascending sort on the "Replies" column.

The problem I'm running into is that all the threads being shown are from 2014.

Is there a way to filter out threads that have a "Last Post" date of more than a week?

I know that I could easily just go through the first 3-pages of the board, but what I'm asking would be more convenient to me and I can't be the only one.

It does not seem to be possible to sort threads by multiple criteria. This may be a useful feature that I don't think would be terribly difficult to implement.]

What you are looking for is the option to sort by the number of replies in ascending order and then by the last post time in descending order.

There are such hidden pages when you search with PMs. I have yet known any similar for searching in a specific board.

That would be one way to solve the problem that I am experiencing. Either solution would achieve my goal, whether it be a second sort on "Last Post" or Filtering out / Not Displaying threads with a "Last Post" older than X days. It's comforting to know that I haven't been using the forum for years and have just been ignorant to something that would be extremely convenient.

While this may not solve my problem, it does give me another tool in belt to solve other problems. I'll give you an "A" for effort for teaching me something new; it feels almost like learning new things is the theme of my day and I welcome that.

Try this:

Code:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search2&advanced=1&searchtype=2&userspec=*&all=&brd[39]=39&submit=Search&minage=0&maxage=7&show_complete=0&sort=numReplies/asc&search=a

39 is the board ID for B&H

maxage is how many days you want to search.

"a" at the end is the search criteria, it's required so I picked a very common letter that should match nearly any post.

No guarantees, but I flipped through the B&H board and found only one thread without replies in the last week and that thread is showing up at the top of the search results when using the URL above, so it seems to be working.

It might not be perfect, but after taking a quick look and poking around at some of the variables it will be phenomenally helpful for what I want it to do. What other tricks are you hiding up your sleeve?

Is there a way to search for multiple terms? You searched for "a"; would it be possible to search for "a" OR "i", in case the post is missing the letter a?

Yes, just add it with a "+", i.e. &search=a+i+e etc (just make sure searchtype is 2).

I knew you had more tricks.

You have made my time here on the forum more efficient, convenient and enjoyable with such a simple trick, and for that I thank you (again).

Now if only we could get a "Double-Sort" or some "Filter" Criteria added as a feature, but I know that's probably pie in the sky.

Damn, you're good.  I really wish I'd studied computer science or programming or some related field when I was in college.  Unfortunately I think it's way too late for me to start at this point.

And welcome back to the forum, bill gator.  Been a while, eh?  I'd been wondering where you'd gone off to (in addition to other members like TMAN and Your Point Is Invalid).  It's always nice when there's a community that's stable in its membership.

As far as your search woes go, hopefully you've found a solution that makes it easier--and I'd add that this is one of the aspects of bitcointalk that needs a serious overhaul.  I've often gotten errors just from searching too fast, and that just shouldn't happen in the present day.

I really wish I'd studied computer science or programming or some related field when I was in college.

Don't beat yourself up too bad, because I did study computer science and programming; still the solution eluded me and the follow-up question didn't have an obvious answer to me.
I think the real advantage here is that they have a doctorate degree in BitcoinTalk.

Unfortunately I think it's way too late for me to start at this point.

It's never too late, haven't you been watching your Gary V?

And welcome back to the forum, bill gator.  Been a while, eh?  I'd been wondering where you'd gone off to (in addition to other members like TMAN and Your Point Is Invalid).  It's always nice when there's a community that's stable in its membership.

It has been awhile, real life took over and taking a vacation away from the forum was a solid move. It's interesting how much of an impact people can have on your life without ever knowing their name, seeing their face or hearing their voice.

The familiar names and personalities are what make the forum an interesting place to bounce idea around.

As far as your search woes go, hopefully you've found a solution that makes it easier--and I'd add that this is one of the aspects of bitcointalk that needs a serious overhaul.  I've often gotten errors just from searching too fast, and that just shouldn't happen in the present day.

You think we'll ever get that new forum software? I think they're on year 16 of development.

Doing a little more testing it seems hit or miss, but maybe one of you can help me figure out what's going on.

This is the link I'm using to attempt and search through the Marketplace board, but It's not showing nearly as many results as it should be. Am I missing something?

Not sure, but it looks like there aren't many new threads in Marketplace. I don't think the search includes sub-boards - you would have to specify each board in the URL.

You actually answered my question, probably without realizing it.

The MaxAge and MinAge Variables are based on the thread creation date, or are they based on the most recent reply? I'm assuming the former, and that would explain it, if so.
