Probably more people are vulnerable to online attackers and wallet to be compromised. People should know that a wallet on browser is just a web wallet and web wallet are not secure like other types of wallet. The more people are seeing it easy to use a wallet like this, the more hackers would be able to compromise wallet.

If anyone want to use this wallet, the person should only keep only the amount of bitcoin or other coins he is able to afford to lose on it.

Having your bitcoin wallet on your browser — on something that's pretty much open and online all the time. Yea, probably one of the worst wallet integration ideas yet. Absolutely zero reason to have your bitcoin wallet on your browser as you don't even need your wallet to connect to a platform like with DApps.

I would use that as my secondary secondary wallet just to quickly access a very minor fraction of my funds. Web based wallets are not really secure and I wouldn't advise anyone to keep a huge amount of money there. browsers are more prone to hacker attacks and for a seasoned hacker it's pretty easy to take control of your browser and steal the money from it.

I am excited about the functionality but the market share of Opera browser is less than 3% so I don't expect a lot of people benefited from it. It's just an technological integration which may make some crypto users to install and use Opera for some very specific use cases.

If it's google chrome or microsoft edge that's probably good news. Currently, the opera browser market share is only a small and insignificant part, so there are not too many expectations on it.
If you are looking for a web3 browser, you can use the brave browser. I'm using brave at the moment, which also has a built-in crypto wallet and what I like about brave is its privacy and doesn't track users as current browsers do.

I recently tried to install the Opera browser to test out their free VPN, which was supposed to be installed in the browser by default. But then it turned out that this feature was not available in my country, and I had to additionally deal with commands within the files. After that, the VPN still didn't appear, so I decided not to try any further and uninstalled Opera. If the same manipulation is needed with the web wallet, I will definitely avoid it. And I agree with those who already said that such wallets are very insecure for holding your coins.

But what is the Opera wallet for? What can you do with it that you can't do with your usual wallet (which I assume is a HW wallet)?

The argument seems to me similar to that of wallets on your mobile. Don't carry a lot of money in it because it's not very secure. But if you carry a wallet on your mobile with a few funds in it, you can make transactions that you wouldn't be able to make normally, unless you carry a laptop and your HW wallet everywhere you go.

I kinda prefer an extension based thing, like this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5389204.msg59487136#msg59487136

This is nice for authentication in websites for example, so that there would be no need for a new user/pass in every site.

It's been so long since I've used this browser and they were really just a few times that I've used it. They are trying to be first than their competitor, Brave as the article has said.

Honestly, I've thought of Brave when I haven't read the article yet.

What people can say about the EVP has said?

Jørgen Arnesen, EVP mobile at Opera, stated:

“Ultimately, Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit.”

Isn't it much better that users really know what they do upon usage of it?

This seems like a good idea, but:
1.I assume that all the security measures are taken and the security of this browser wallet is top-notch.
Anything below top-notch security is a big no.
2.I don't think that many users are going to use their Bitcoins for spending. They would just keep their BTC and HODL them.Perhaps integrating this browser with more altcoins than just the six coins mentioned in the article would be better.
3.Who cares about Dapps?I've completely lost my interest for Dapp projects a long time ago. There's might be good Dapp projects here and there, but I just don't care about them.

The Brave browser project(and their BAT token) is going to die slowly. Most of the Brave users are using it only for the sake of getting tokens, not because Brave is a good browser(it actually is a good browser,I have tested it).

IMO, browser wallets are actually worse than web wallets! The former comes with fewer layers of security, hence it's easier for hackers to penetrate it.

Isn't it much better that users really know what they do upon usage of it?
It is but for some weird reason, that's not their objective [I have a feeling it's more than just being the most convenient way]!

Isn’t it something what exists in Brave for a long time?
I am Opera user and supporter since I remember, but honestly speaking I will probably migrate to other everyday browser. I do not understand why they implemented that feature, as they already support Chrome extensions, so there is no need to build anything new.

Bear in mind that, despite them calling it a vpn, it’s really a proxy, meaning it will not act upon any traffic from any of your other browsers, nor when you connect to any type of server using any other software in your environment, and so forth.

Concerning the browser wallet integration, I find it off-putting by principle. I read about it yesterday here and there, but none of the recent articles seemed to explain properly what the user is now getting (something along this line).

Yeah, this is good news. Best of all, Opera has also expanded access to Layer 2 (including Polygon and Starkex), cheaper and faster transaction fees. With about 350 million users since 2018. It is well-rewarded for them to vigorously compete for their position against Brave. With this new update I think I will switch to using Opera more.

Since it is integrated and not a third party extension, Opera will be fully responsible if something happens to user funds. Since there many ways to steal user cookies, passwords and etc, such integration can play bad for Opera reputation. As this is an internet browsers, which shows lot of information for the user, I believe chances of user being distracted are really high. I can already foreseen cases of accidental clicks to accept something, copy/pasting info to a wrong place and etc.

Although that there’s nothing wrong about integrating Bitcoin or any crypto wallet in a browser, but it’s likely vulnerable towards getting compromised or hacked. And of course, I am using Brave Browser and not a fan of using Opera (unless if it’s just one of the alternatives that I need).

Usually most of us are leaving our browsers open during breaks or so, even when we sleep. So this is kinda concerning unless they assure us that our wallets are completely “safe”, but it’s going to be unlikely safe for me as these hackers are getting smarter and better than ever.

As platforms and security measures innovate, the hackers are doing whatever it takes to be “one step ahead”.

Yeah. Does it mean the wallet is not full custodial wallet and ideally its shared wallet with the server of Opera?
Because the wallet is like running on their server which means the data such as coin informations, transactions, personal data is ideally present on their server address while only the Opera browser itself is on the device.

In normal wallet which we install on our phones or desktop, we get 100% ownership of the wallet as the data is stored locally on the device. So whats the point in having such wallet which can be compromised or even easy to phish if its embedded into browsers tab.

Unlike MetaMask, which has chrome extension but the whole ecosystem works on-chain so Im not sure whats the difference?

Is it going to be safe or we have such kinda vulnerabilities!

Beginners prefer to get all things in one place, so if you compare it with those who may download a random application to get a filter or an application that gives you “bitcoin for free”, the option of running a wallet on Opera will be good for them.
An average user or someone who takes Bitcoin seriously will spend some time learning the basics and then they will realize that browser wallets are bad and will buy HW wallet or open-source one.
I don't think someone intends to invest $10,000 and doesn't even want to learn the basics of choosing a crypto wallet.

Well, data is king and that's what they're trying to do but if they're the same as Brave that don't really collect those things yet at the same time, they're integrated with crypto/blockchain. There could be other things aside from adding a wallet.
