Would the IQ test have made the forum better?

No it's not going to happen. This forum is all about freedom of choice and doesn't separate people based on sex, religion, origin, or intelligence/stupidity. Bitcoin is for everyone who is tired of the traditional financial systems and those who are unbanked and can't use banks at all. Putting such labels on people wouldn't be right.

That doesn't prevent anyone from creating their own IQ test for fun and have forum members participate. You could then create a list and rank those willing to participate based on their results.

... And by extension it will be taken into consideration during enrollment into campaigns. I trust what campaign managers can do. It will just be another addition for requirement like Merit earned over a period of time. Regrettably, that won't work because the questions asked can be googled if one is fast enough before they're changed once time elapses. Users will do all they can to get in a campaign but after that rest on their oars. Well, even though we all now know that the IQ test was a mere prank I believe it would've added or subtracted something from the forum were it implemented.

I was thinking of this for just a little while. Instead of entirely removing IQ points, it would just show up privately into the user's profile for at least that user will know if s/he needs improvement or at least needs to know more.
Having it completely show up in front of other users might end up discouraging engagement in conversations for obvious reasons.
Though in the end, it is still a meh suggestion for me. Newbies to crypto should spend a lot of more time reading rather than posting anyway.

I’d have to see the statistics but I can only assume that spam was cut down while the IQ test was going on. I also don’t know what happens if you got one wrong. Did you have to answer a different question or did it just deduct IQ points. If it kept people from posting until they got the answer right, it definitely should reduce spam as I can’t imagine that would be worth the hassle. Without a longer test where the fun of a high IQ wears off and posting habits become normal again, it is difficult to judge whether it would be a positive or negative development. I’m sure people would figure out a way around it eventually also.

I don't think so. As I see that most forum users say "April Fools (IQ test)" is just a momentary pleasure.
apart from every question at that time also totally unrelated to bitcoin or cryptoqurrency.
that day reminded me of history class!   not information about bitcoin as a whole.

That would be an extreme and ironically ineffective measure. The merit system already functions as a motivation to encourage more users to make quality content as without quality content, one would not be able to rank up.

The feature I'm looking forward to seeing is the newbie welcome message which has been discussed extensively on the forum. Hopefully it's added sooner or later h new forum software is launched with it added.

No.  A thousand times no.  Not only would an IQ test be universally loathed by the community (newbies in particular), but it wouldn't even be effective for whatever purpose it had, since as has been pointed out it's too easy for someone to grab the answers off the internet and cheat.

That's why it was an April Fool's joke, kids.  Theymos might be nutty as a port-o-potty outside a peanut factory, but he's not crazy enough to implement such a time-wasting exercise as an IQ requirement for membership.  Can you imagine?

And all of that as well.  The merit system is one thing--and I'm a big supporter of it, especially since most members here get paid to post, and there's a very real, very great need to limit shitposting, but thankfully Theymos is indeed pro-freedom at every turn.  That's part of what makes bitcointalk such a great forum.  You can speak your mind using pretty much any language you care to, and it's not going to be censored for the sake of not offending someone.

Stupid people are welcome, as are geniuses.  And we've got quite a mix already.

Yeah you could write in a note app or smth beforehand but it's just unnecessary. It's Internet forum for chit-chat on cryptos, let it be.

The IQ test questions are not really informative about cryptocurrencies, but it focuses more on history, so i don't think its necessary in the forum. And its quite annoying that you have to do a quick research to come up with the best answer, rather than focusing only on the topics you want to create a good discussion. I think let's settle first with the merits sytem, because for me that's more important.

It was funny while it lasted, but it won't be a useful tool for long term.

I think the current situation of the forum with merits, activity, and ranks is working quite alright. And although it's a bit tough for newbies in the beginning, if you constantly post quality content you can rise up the ranks quite fast, just as we saw in the case of n0nce, who has been in this forum for less than a year and already was accepted at one of the most prestigious signature campaigns.
