I've seen this a few times, and I'm not sure why they would to that, since any extra information could be appended to the original post later on by editing it, which is usually what happens.

But a few threads have the second post reserved by the OP by basically posting a "reserved" below the original thread. What's the purpose of this?

Also, I thought consecutive posts were not allowed here as the mods usually deletes the second one and merges it with the first.

Basically to update it later for important announcement or information added since posting all in the first post with a long post looks awful and unnice.

Also, I thought consecutive posts were not allowed here as the mods usually deletes the second one and merges it with the first.
No, its not, read the #32 in the unofficial rules again, "excluding reserved posts by the the thread starter."

Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

I've seen this a few times, and I'm not sure why they would to that, since any extra information could be appended to the original post later on by editing it, which is usually what happens.

In some cases, one post isn't enough, especially if there is a lot of data to be shared (there is a limit to the number of characters that a post can contain).

Also, I thought consecutive posts were not allowed here as the mods usually deletes the second one and merges it with the first.

As PX-Z said earlier, it doesn't apply in this case.

It's for organization and neatness purposes. Mostly being used for service threads and the like, the first(main) post is the main description of the service, then the second(reserved) post is used for announcements, changelogs, lists and such.

2nd post is next that will be read after reading the original post. It's possibly for marketing.

The 3rd may still have the chance to be read until the first 20 replies the next page will likely not going to be read. OP must have something else in mind to post or update when more information comes along. I often notice these on ANN threads of altcoins, not on other forums. If mods don't delete or merge it to OP, I guess it's fine.

For a post there is certain cap limit for the number of characters, don't know the exact numbers but definitely its not unlimited so for someone like @Ratimov who more often create guides with clear explanation and example like this thread Зaщити cвoю Seed фpaзy c пoмoщью шaйб then definitely one post space is not enough sometimes not even two or three. Only a thread starter is allowed to do this.

There is no rules on max reserved posts by thread starters (I could be wrong). I remembered some members said it is restricted to 3 reserved posts only. However, in the past, I made more than 3 reserved posts in my topics but I did not get any issue from moderators.

In fact, from my observation, for signature campaigns or bounty threads, mostly thread starters did not actually come back to edit reserved posts with additional content. Anyway, if rules allow it, it does not harm when you reserve some because you might need them in future.
