It's a good starting point.

Tbf it is probably a good starting pint for learning quite a few things.
You haven't been very specific though. If you've got a computer with a decent cpu/gpu then I'd think it's a good way to start testing out things with crypto. If you're wanting to try out cloud mining then it might be a good place to start too (I doubt there's much to be made there unless you do longer contracts).
If you had a larger setup, you might be better off looking at other places.

Before you do invest in a larger setup, check it'll be profitible (unless you're doing it as a hobby) and check a few different profitibility calculators to work out it will be. You'll find a lot of resources with hardware manufacturers, pools, forums dedicated to the currencies you want to mine and sites related to them. If you're getting GPUs and just want a profitible setup the nice hash is probably a good place to start to try to do that but you might want to see if their fees outweigh their usefulness (I'm not sure how much they charge).

Definitely not a bad choice if you want to do occasional mining. It's benchmarking feature helps to determine the best profitable coin based on your hardware. So it's pretty handy tool to start your mining journey. Once you understand the best coin for you to mine, you can plan to step up using an enterprise grade softwares. But for amall miners, nicehash is really great!

It's a good place to start but you may not like the long withdrawal threshold so the better pools are 2miners and viabtc, they have very low payment thresholds like 1.5$ upwards, on 2miners you get paid in Nano on binance exchange, no withdrawal fee required, on viabtc you also get paid directly to your CoinEX email account, very easy.

I avoid Nicehash because they charge high fees and they have behaved unethically when it comes to 51% attacks.
You will learn a lot more by downloading lolMiner or T-rex or Gminer then configuring the pool yourself. You could also use Minerstat, which has a Windows version.

Charge high fees as how? I withdraw 40$ from Nicehash yesterday and they only remove 0.20$ BTC for the transaction, way better than the ETH mining withdrawal fee on other mining pools out there, the reason why I don't like Nicehash is stability issue, there is too much spikes on that pool.

As long as Ethereum mining is working, I prefer not to use software to select the most profitable algorithm. But when Ethereum mining is over, then perhaps nicehash and its competitors will be a good solution for beginners at first. You should probably try nicehash if you are a beginner.

You can start with flexpool if you don't like Nicehash and this pool have the option to adjust the withdrawal fee yourself using the exact IP address you connect to the pool, if you are the type that's trying to avoid paying withdrawal fee then stick with 2miners and use Nano to receive payout.

Nicehash is the best option for mining ETH and getting paid out in BTC, along with the 2miner's pool. Using 2miner will be more useful in the longterm when you want to mine other coins because the setup will be similar compared to nicehash which is easier.

2miner and ethermine are very good mining pools because they do not require registration. The further prospect of mining is unknown until the end date of ethereum mining is known. But it will be much more difficult to make money on mining after Ethereum, so you need to learn how to mine in various ways.

Nicehash is not the best option but it is good to start and get an idea you can get the same result that is to be paid in btc by mining other things also with unminable and zergpool, in my opinion the best option to mine is lolminer and as pool ethermine
