The good thing about Magsayo is that he is not into talking or getting in someone's to destroy his psyche, he just let his actions do the talking instead of having so much exposure and underestimating his opponents. This time he is against a Mexican boxer who also didn't tasted any loss in his whole career, Magsayo surely knows the gravity of what Vargas can do especially that the latter have that height and reach advantage.

For me, this is just another good matchup for him and since he is now fighting in the US, he needs to consider working hard and he needs to beat the like of Vargas in an easy way but we all know that it would not be the case if he struggled to beat his last opponent with injury. Who knows maybe he already improved after that because it's just some kind of unexpected turn of events when he was expected to win easily with his opponent suffering from an arm injury. Right now he needs to wake up and use every fight as an opportunity to showcase his skills and how strong he is.
That should be the correct mindset for any boxers specially Filipinos who are reeling from the retirement of Manny Pacquiao. Manny has set the blue print already it's just a matter of time boxers like Magsayo following his footsteps for greatness. So not to underestimate any of his opponents and on the contrary focuses on training and doing the hard work.

Pacquaio is the inspiration of Filipino boxers so for sure those existing champions are trying to reach what he achieve on his career and its good that there are so many potential Filipino fighters that can possibly reached up on what he reached on his career and what Magsayo needs to do is to finish this fight in impressive way so that he can catch the attention of global crowds and get more hype under his name to get more bigger match.

He did get an attention based on this two last fights, a come from behind win against Ceja by KO and then he beat one of the longest reigning champion in this division, Russell Jr. But still he doesn't have that recognition that he deserves. Maybe if he can win via knock out here or maybe this fight turns out to be a brawl and Magsayo winning in the scorecard, maybe he will get the respect of the US audience just like what Pacman did years ago.

He did get an attention based on this two last fights, a come from behind win against Ceja by KO and then he beat one of the longest reigning champion in this division, Russell Jr. But still he doesn't have that recognition that he deserves. He’s a title holder and he is being recognized already but of course we can’t expect that much that many will support Magsayo, they will still bet on a boxer they believe to won the match and with this two, Magsayo should do his best because this is not an easy one. Manny is the standard for a Filipino boxer that’s why they put too much pressure on them but I believe they all have unique talent and they should focus on that so they can perform well. Looking at some odds now, i can still see a good chance for Magsayo here.

Slowly but surely Magsayo will get there.

What he just needs to do is to continue winning like what Pacquiao did.

And we should not even mention Pacquiao here as Magsayo has his own journey. Comparing their respective path seems not appropriate. Pacquiao is a rare piece in the PH since our boxes are usually just within Bantamweight and Featherweight but Pacquiao dominates up to Welterweight and Light Middleweight.

Magsayo will make his own name. Again as previously said here, he will defeat Rey Vargas and I'm sure of that.

Magsayo has not experienced a defeat yet, but if he would, I hope he will still continue and learn from his mistakes. Pacman is a great boxer, he is not undefeated but people still see him as the better fighter compared to other undefeated fighters who have also retired already.

I believe he will win but I'm not 100% sure with that.

I don't understand the "Recognition that he deserves". What do we mean by here? Don't expect that it's an instant BIG NAME for him.

He was recognized surely after beating Gary Russell Jr. regardless of the status of this former champion when he fought it.

There are really questions but a win is a win and he did his best. Whether Magsayo struggles or not in that fight, if he's ended up as the winner, that's the most important thing. We just not realized it but he was recognized in that fight.

Are the odds already available?

Rey Vargas has a very good record, https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/542148
35 wins and 22 of that are coming from KO. That was impressive.

Honestly, I don't trust Magsayo completely in this fight as I was a bit disappointed with the way he fight in his previous fight although he won. I don't know this Vargas but if Magsayo will not improve his style, I think he will experience his first defeat.
Vargas has more experience than Magsayo so this alone has put Vargas into an advantage from this fight. However, both boxers have been good in winning from KO so if Magsayo will manage to stop the fight through KO, he will probably win this game. But seeing how he fought with his last opponents, his boxing skills is not as good and impressive as how Vargas manage to win in the ring. So i'd go with Vargas this time.

Yeah, maybe Magsayo might regret his decision to fight Vargas. One thing though, Magsayo is very ambitious, saw some clips in Youtube and him and Roach are really targeting a unification in this division. So the chances for Magsayo might be slim because Vargas is a high level fighter. And we can do is that Magsayo will prepare a good game plan how to offset Vargas because based on reach and height, Vargas has the advantage.

Well, fighting against a great fighter is not something you'll have to regret, instead that's an honour. Win or lose that's actually an honour.
Every fighter always have ambition and If they didn't do something about it, that ambition will just stay ambition.
Coach Roach knew how to upset a stronger opponent. So, we better watch out the fight.

Analyzing Vargas's profile, he has a very good range of fights and knockout wins, this makes me understand one thing, that Vargas probably wants to end this fight quickly if he manages to land some good direct blows to the area near the chin. and close to Magsayo's nose, because I see that the blows that Vargas throws out there are very likely to cause a knockout, especially those two, I don't know if Magsayo must already be aware of that potential, I guess so, although for what Magsayo cro showed that one of his strategies will be to endure if his body allows it, this fight will be very tough.

both of them have good record in their match.Magsayo with 24-0-0 and Roy  vargas with 35-0-0 it show  their quality in fight and they have good talent. with this fight history ,maybe only fighter with better condition and performance will win ,not matter that knock out or split decision. this is good momentum for Magsayo that he have good quality and maybe worthy to be champ.

A huge inspiration because he is the most successful boxer in the Philippine history. Magsayo works with Pacman promotion until now if I'm not mistaken,  so he will get the best advise from the legend, and since Pacman loss in the election, he will have more time in the sports now.

Yes he's still with MP promotions so most provably he can get great advises coming from living filipino legend itself. But its undeniable that Vargas is difficult opponent and for having that 0 defeat with 63% knockout percentage for sure we can see a great fight between him and Magsayo.

Also as Pacquaio became civilian with no position handled in government for sure he can focus on his fighter and give them good advices on their upcoming fights.

I really agree! Magsayo is carving his own path and name in the industry to be more known in the years to come, every boxer's journey is different. Nobody wanted to be known just by following someone else's shadow. Magsayo will reign soon and I believe Vargas will just be a stepping stone to him, he may be tough but I know Magsayo can manage to get through him.

That's also exactly the reason why Manny Pacquaio have more fans than haters, actually I cannot even say that he have some haters because the man is so humble and doesn't underestimate his opponents nor trash-talk them, that's the good thing about him that's why many loved him.

As for Magsayo's case, he needs to learn more about what to do and what no to do in this industry as he is just starting to build his career. Also, yes, I believe coach Freddie Roach will indeed guide him through that phase.

But still he doesn't have that recognition that he deserves. Maybe if he can win via knock out here or maybe this fight turns out to be a brawl and Magsayo winning in the scorecard, maybe he will get the respect of the US audience just like what Pacman did years ago.

I don't understand the "Recognition that he deserves". What do we mean by here? Don't expect that it's an instant BIG NAME for him.

He was recognized surely after beating Gary Russell Jr. regardless of the status of this former champion when he fought it.

He wasn't recognized per se in beating Gary Russell Jr. because Gary was injured that time. He even says it prior to the fight, admitting that something is wrong with him and then he just says that he is nursing an injury but doesn't want to postponed that fight. As for the Ceja, Magsayo was behind the judges score card, if not for the knock down, maybe he will not win.

There are really questions but a win is a win and he did his best. Whether Magsayo struggles or not in that fight, if he's ended up as the winner, that's the most important thing. We just not realized it but he was recognized in that fight.

I agree that a win is a win, but he will have to come up with big wins against name fighters to be in the discussion as the best featherweight because this division is stack up.

Magsayo wins but there are still some doubts from the fans if he would be able to win convincingly in this fight. We know that he won because he was fighting a champion with an injury, and was only fighting with one hand. For him to finally gain some big respect, beating Vargas is a must and should be not in a controversial manner. Anyway, good luck to him.

I think that doesn't necessarily even that Magsayo will win the fight. As long as he continues winning, he will recognize more soon.

As you said, we are talking about BIG NAMES here. Therefore, even though Magsayo struggles to win against those BIG NAMES, it's still a win.

And Magsayo doesn't have any control over choosing his next opponents. If he likes then he will just pick a BIG name. It was his promoter or the body title that chooses his match.

My honest opinion though, Mark Magsayo is now 26 years old, I think he will move on the next division somewhere on his 30s because his body mass will be more fit and much capable on the next division. Just my opinion.

But now that he is still starting, he definitely need to make some name in Featherweight division even if it's quite stacked with good boxers in this division and actually that's an advantage because he and his promoter got some options in this division. But for Magsayo, I believe he is willing to get a fight with anyone in this division as long as his promoter agrees.

Mark game against Rey was huge differnce in it. Mark was the unique game towards the other player. Nearly 60 percentage of the people expecting the good fight from the Mark. Mark was just 26 and had huge body to face the other person. Some think, it take Mark to fit at 30 years. But the mental fit is needed in game.

Or maybe much early. He was averaging 2 fights a year and for sure, his promoter won't work on giving Magsayo always in a title defense doubt. If he continuous winning, maybe at 28 he can moved up weight as no choice in the first place but to do that as it's not forever he will just defend his title.

If successfully wins all his title defense, his body might be ready and prepared upgrading on Super Featherweight or Junior Lightweight. Then after 2 years if he remained successful on that weight class, he can now finally take a shot at Lightweight division. That would be his maximum weight class that I think he can handled.

I don't understand the part that Magsayo will fit only at 30 years of age? Is my understanding correct? Is that what are you trying to say?

Who are these people you are referring to stating that?

My take is, that if Magsayo is not fit, basically at his current age, he shouldn't be on his current status right now. Am I keeping up with your statement here? And obviously, a relaxed mental mind state is needed aside from keeping the body fit. I think every boxer already knows that.

I think he tried to say Magsayo will in fit/prime condition when he already 30 years old, now he's currently 26... but I don't think 26 years old can't be said as prime in boxing since there's some professional boxer already good in their young ages e.g. Shakur Stevenson at 24 years old and included on top 10 best pound for pound. Some people said Vargas will be favorited in this match, but I'd think Magsayo will be favorited since he's more popular and active in the current professional boxing scene.

It would be a good thing for him if he will be the favorite and he gives the fans a fabulous win against Vargas. That would be a level up for him in his professional career and he will be given a worthy and a real challenge opponent soon if he does really win a knockout in this upcoming fight. It the worth thing mentioning is, that this is a good opportunity for him before turning to his prime because he is fighting in the USA where stronger opponents are gathered here.
