Politics has always been an evil deed which transform the good to bad,The good man who determines to do what right ,his Good intentions later changes to bad intentions, it not really the fault of this prospective politicians when new to the game ,when they get to the office it a different ball game entirely,politics in different nations are almost the same with selfish interest ,only few stand out but yet still get a little bit corrupt..it is said that if you want to attain greater heights then join them ,if not you will remain stagnant, if not careful even left out ,politics has it own effect on society be it positively or negatively ..an example of the positive effect on the society is good governance and welfare of its citizens ,it considers the interest of its citizens while the negative example of politics Russia leader who do not consider the interest of its citizens mainly for self interest to start a war that will at the end affects its citizens..

It's certainly why democracy is important. I'd disagree that it means governments should be limited. In general, if we are talking about capitalist democracies, then the government needs to set the limits on capitalism to prevent it becoming exploitative. A limited government would mean more monopolies, cartels, anti-competitive practices, etc. I think the government needs to be of sufficient size to manage the process capably. The key point is that the government should not become corrupt, and needs to be accountable if it swings too far (either to the right or to the left) - through the democratic process.

Politics is an art or science of acquisition of power with the intention of controlling the resources of a particular locality. It is the quest to grab political power with the aim of ruling or leading a state or country. Currently, the best form of government is representative democracy. It is a government that is enthroned by the people and can be dethroned by the people. Most countries have voted for people that were perceived as good and qualified. But they get disappointed when the person grabs power because the person have turned to a tyrant and become corrupt. African politicians are fantastically corrupt and totally heartless. They derive joy is looting the county's treasury and seeing people suffer. Some of the reason why the mindset of people change immediately they become politicians are:

a) Weak political institutions: Most African political systems can be easily manipulated. The executive can easily manipulate the judiciary and legislature. This has made many politicians despotic. So when good men are given too much power they become power drunk this is because absolute power corrupts absolutely.

b) Public mentality: It is generally believed that politics enriches. Hence, everyone believe that when you get any Political position you are meant to acquire wealth by any means. You would be insulted by your family members and community if you do not enrich yourself, family, and friends. The his has forced men of integrity to become corrupt.

Politics have been the ecosystem that transforms good people into bad was the reason why I never liked politics ever since I understand this fact right from my childhood because the foundation of their rules and regulations was built on lies, decent, conny, etc or else the honest and the good person will serve as prey for the bad people.

I think that politics does not change the mentality of man, but it manipulates the mind of man. The OP is saying it from the worldly point of view not from the Political Scienrist point of view. And I believe the OP is not a political scientist that is why he did not back up his argument with some of the philosophical thoughts. Politics is not a bad Omen in the society. What is politics from your understanding, politics is what is the amount of lies you have to present to deserve people to believe in you and build trust for you. Politics is certainly an important part of our life, like dentistry. If you do not visit the dentist regularly and neglect hygiene, you will have dental problems and this will seriously impair the quality of your life, so do not neglect dentistry. But what I don't understand about politics is how did she manage to convince everyone that she is the MOST important part of life?
