It is also not strange that the Nigerians are very curious about this technology, because Nigeria are perceived as the "Scam Capitol" of the world. We know Bitcoin's pseudo anonymity provide some hiding place for criminal activities, so some of these people are actively looking for a payment method that cannot be traced.  Roll Eyes
Have you ever been scammed by a Nigerian before?
Is there a record of any forum user as we have it here with claims to have been scammed by a Nigerian?
Are there Nigerians active or banned on the forum to have scammed any known user?
If YES to any of these, then am truly sorry!

I believe there are one of such fraudulent people in every nation and not just Nigeria. Why then should the name scam but so closely tide with the Nigerian people. The virtues expressed by Nigerians on the forum should be given a chance to breath. It becomes very dehumanising for a people's effort to live right be sunk in the sands of some uncultured claims and we are expected to accept that.

Africa is a continent that comprises mostly of the world's third world countries (developing and under developed countries). We tend to struggle a lot and are hit by certain world changing innovations late, our bright minds are always looking for means of a better life elsewhere and as such, we continue to struggle over everything including our government.
I can tell you that that situation in most African nations, Nigeria inclusive is an attempt to escape a corrupt and unjust government. This is largely the reason that I can accord the stats as is presented in OP other than the assumptions of the claims in the quote above.

Haven't said that for Nigera, what then becomes the reason for the nations in 3rd, 4th and 5th places. Nigerians are doing there best and some day, we would be recognised for good efforts the majority of us put in to ensure a better world for our neighbours and the rest of humanity.
Lets not throw stones, Nigerians are good people!

It does make sense that the word "Bitcoin" has been Googled the most by the El Salvadorian people, because their government forced a law on them that included a technology that influenced their daily lives and that most of them knew virtually nothing about.
I'll also like to recount that in situations of learning, humans tends to be curious a lot as to why something is imposed on them, why is it celebrated, why is it hated and more of those than when it's just allowed to slide.
This could be the story for El-Salvador and the search seems okay with me. At least for a 7days result and am particularly proud of Nigeria for making that mark, even without the government's approval of cryptocurrency.

I don't believe the people of El Salvador were forced to adopt Bitcoin. They have the option to use their local Fiat as they do with Bitcoin and if you say they they are continually making research to understand Bitcoin more which leads to what is presented in the chat, I'd agree and as for Nigeria, we do know that the Government has not been able to provide the enabling economy for the ever-growing youths to thrive hence the surge into cryptocurrency so no surprise there to see Nigerian on the top of that list.

Bukele may have not directly forced the people but the people or businesses who denied acceptance of bitcoin as payment have obviously been put in huge social pressure since most have agreed into this "new thing." And the reason is because "he himself made a grandiose promise to his citizens that adopting Bitcoin would digitize the economy, decrease dependence on the U.S. dollar, lower remittance fees(which accounts for about 20% of the country’s gross domestic product) and drive investment." With these, people would have more likely had no choice but to follow the crowd either for the hope of a better business return or for the sake of not being singled out by the majority.

And yeah, with the current circumstance of the Nigerian people, they really don't have that much of a choice but to adapt into the changing times or to diversify their methods to make ends meet. It would be nice if the government supported this and made some free seminars to teach the youth about the opportunities that this industry has to offer.

I am interested in number 1 and number 2 in the list.

Number one - El Salvador
This people has adopted bitcoin already and they are searching the Google to ensure they learn how to use what they have adopted. So, what they are probably searching is how to use bitcoin for payment etc.

Number two - Nigeria.
Nigeria government has not adopted bitcoin, infact they have placed a ban on it and ask banks to block individuals local bank account who joins bitcoin.
Upon the law, the intimidation by the law enforcement agents by extorting individuals into crypto, yet more Nigerians are still eager to understand what bitcoin is all about

Seems legit. El salvador is in the top list because this country have fully adopted bitcoin and many people on that country still have no idea about bitcoin so they search it on google but there might be some that already some knowledge on bitcoin yet still want to learn more for them to improve it. Second on the list is the country of Nigeria. It's a developing country and bitcoin can be a good source of income to them, that is why many people are now searching the term on google only to learn and to get started as soon as possible.

The rest of the countries in the list are I can say well developed already but I am surprised that most of their people still don't have an idea on how btc works. It could mean that they are already contented on what fiat has to offer or they have a less trust, and interest in bitcoin before.
I do agree that the place for El Salvador really does look great, I think it would definitely mean a lot to people there to learn more about it because they have to learn how to live with it in their lives.

However, what we could consider Nigeria to be a developing nation, they are also very greatly involved in crypto as well, when there were talks about the government making it illegal there were uprisings online and they managed to get them to back pedal a bit and now it is legal, which caused a lot of people to google it because it was all over the news. You have to realize just because it's good investment wouldn't make things googled a lot, it requires some other big news as well.

At least there's a place that did took risk on making it as a legal tender. It do really opens other countries or places that this thing could be that possible although there are lots of talks and issues about
failure on what El salvador is currently experience or seeing that much that it wasnt really that effective than it should be but i couldnt really that make out some conclusions too or impressions
since it was just still on months time and its too early for us to make those words or say that they had eventually failed on this one.

Because imagine if the government had grant access to banks for crypto trading and buying and selling, it would have actually reduced the rate of poverty and unemployment in this country, because imagine if Emeka or Obinna or John could be making the least #5000 to #10,000 daily from crypto arbitrage, do you think such person will still involve himself in crime or either wait for government to provide job,???
I guess the answer is NO.
That's a weird thing to say considering the huge volatility that exists in crypto trading specially when you consider how manipulate the altcoin market is and how many people lose money in shitcoin pump and dumps. Don't get me started on the token scams that are very common these days (ICOs, IEOs, STOs, DeFi, NFTs,...). If anything these things would harm the economy and increase crime rate.

~
This is so much an argument that I never did expect and you've got a point made for sure as there could be some bias to the way in which this data is been collated and sumed up to give an overview of the whole.

Although, its hard to agree with the above argument conclusively as, we've got translators in recent times and even more commonly. Google too has a translating tool and possibly could step in for cases of language bias in course of accumulation and give a perspective that isn't the norm for many parts of the world.

Could this be true as, its just an idea in my head at the moment!
Given the fact as to the origin of the study and from the many that speaks or uses English, even application wise, we can't completely rule out the study, can we!
Translation is only used when the thing you want to read is not already available in your own language or you don't trust their translation and want to read the original text. For example if you wanted to read the official statement of Chinese government about cryptocurrencies you would go to the gov. site and use Google translate but if you want to search "what is bitcoin" you can just search it in your own language and there is a good chance you would find better content that way (depends on the topic and language).

Are you saying that "Nigerians are still eager to understand what bitcoin is all about?" Grin Grin Grin In 2021 which was just last year following the ban, Nigeria was rated Africa’s largest P2P Bitcoin market with trades worth $99.1 million and yet you think that country is trying to understand Bitcoin?

It's highly refreshing to know that Nigeria is number two in countries that have searched more about Bitcoin in the world. It's the same way Nigeria ranks high too in forex trading. We've the enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit which has continued to further the "I can do" mentality. Despite not having the best of political leadership, Nigerians have continued to prove themselves worthy of emulation. I don't care the stereotype our inept and corrupt political class has thrown the rest of us into that has often made us laughing stock in the comity of nations (even here too) because of prejudice as if those who sneer at us are more sanctimonious than we are. Nigeria is a great country, only our politicians are the rubbish in it.

As long as I know, Bitcoin is banned in Nigeria.

I am not from Nigeria. But yes I am from one of the country where bitcoins are not legalized.
And it's not to be surprised that many users are googling about Bitcoins though Bitcoins are banned in the countries.
Bitcoins are famous for their decentralized nature, that is they cannot be controlled by any of the government.
This is the reason for which many people shows interest in the coin despite knowing that the coin is banned in their country.
And at last I am too not amazed to see the countries where Bitcoin has been googled the most.
It's the people's love for the coin for which despite their nation's law they are interested in this asset.

Data from Google trend is collected without strict criteria and it does not match what you are looking for in most cases. From searching to actually buying, investing is different. The percent of conversion from having interest in (shows by searching stats) to investing is low, very low.

If you see searching figure in a nation is highest, it does not meant that nation has a highest total Bitcoin investors or miners or Bitcoin nodes.
