This can be various factor. This depends on what altcoin to be used as an example for that. Sometime it can be known but in so many cases the success of altcoins were coming from the major big news like partnership, adoption and many more.
It's hard to say that you will also face a project that got huge adoption but this project less popular compared with the project with very good product. I think that you need to use all of factors to determine the potential project to success.

If you select any projects for long term perspective, than i would suggest you to search for those which is having use cases and potential of having hype in the next bull season as we see a lot of hypes back in 2021's bull season. Thus you'll be able to find out the perfect one from all of those new projects. Also don't just jump into P2E based projects in current time as trend of P2E is over and only top projects are performing well in current situation. Also be aware of those new projects who used shillers to create hype as most of those won't be able to perform well because of cheap marketing, IMHO.

The low quality use case tokens you are saying is going to die when the bear market arrives. Its usually the solid project supported by big community that will survive. This is why some crypto project is do their best to have a community in forums, telegram and social media accounts because it helps the market when there are investors getting the trading volume up. The most important of all the use case of the token because its what investors see if there will be demand for it.

That’s a wrong idea like seriously. I always try to avoid low quality coins in the market, but there are people who like to invest in these coins thinking that they are going to be worth it in the future. But sometimes, some people do get lucky.

But, I am not really the kind of person that likes to take that kind of risk. Take Dogecoin as an example, that was the last coin that I would ever invest in, because I thought to myself that meme coins were not worth it, but look at what happened, all of a sudden it pumped. I don't really know what others look at in new projects before they invest on it, or what they consider as good factors.. to me I look at what the project have to offer and how transparent the project team are and how professional they also appear to be.
