I could hardly believe it when i saw the news today about the prediction of the coinbase CEO, he said 10 to 20 years from now cryptocurrency will have a 1 billion users, well he has a point the people who has involed in crypto on year 2021 market is reaching over 220 million individuals very big numbers of people, so his prediction sounds logical for me there is a big possibility that this could really happen and i believe that this has a good effect on cryptocurrency prices, this sounds like cryptocurrency will be having a great future 10 years from now? 10 to 20 years we'll have a global population of 8.6-9.5 billion people so to say 1 in every 8 or 9 people using crypto isn't too far-fetched, if we allow ourselves to be pretty broad with what a crypto user means.

Hate to say it but if gamers do end up using crypto (whether in-game or playing something that'll have an element of it), that would probably be a major portion of it. Even using crypto casinos (a huge industry in itself) would automatically assign a wallet to every user (whether or not they actually gamble in crypto).

And with hundreds of millions probably signing on to use a consumer investment app, the exposure alone might count as use.

Now, people actually having sole custody of private keys, that's another thing all together.

I've followed the news when they're always giving it to the media on how many users they've gained for this and that month. Well, the crypto market is inevitably going to grow and will gain users. There will be those that are going to be out but eventually, they're going to come back as they cannot help themselves to watch the market grow. It's bound to grow, no matter how bad the news that will come out and try to spill on bitcoin and the whole crypto market, still, it'll grow.

1 billion users in 10-20 years is a bit slow in adoption rate despite BTC is all over the mainstream media already. The banking industry doesn't even have to approve anyone to get into crypto unlike the adoption of Paypal back in 2002.

If everyone in twitter can become a bitcoin or doge holder because of Elon, I think there should be more than billions of people in less than 10 years. All it need is the constant discussion of crypto in twitter that Elon could initiate.

From his prediction 220Mio users in just 2021 there is every possibilities and logically in the next 5 years instead of 10 to 20 year time, and i strongly believe that as year passes by the more the population troop into it so i have a great feeling that by the end of this year we could record 300Mio people from his statistics. it solid impact in the crypto market not only limited to BTC but all ALT generally.

We could count this as him being biased towards crypto, I mean, he is the CEO of Coinbase, but he might not be that far of. I am glad he is referring to cryptocurrencies in general and not BTC, and that's smart because the idea that BTC will be the only one, or the biggest one just doesn't hold anymore. But again, those numbers can be reached only if crypto solves its environmental issues (looking at you Bitcoin), the need for governments for more centralization and transparency, and its ongoing security threats. If those issues are not handled, I doubt we will see those numbers rise.

Since you didn't put a news source, we can only guess if he meant Bitcoin (and probably didn't), or all the possible altcoins/tokens, of which there are now about 20 000 on the market. If this pace continues, in 10 years we may have 100 000 tokens/altcoins and if there are 1 billion users, I am afraid to predict how many of them will continue to buy false promises as they do today.

It is my opinion that this whole crypto industry is booming too much, but not in some positive sense that would result in benefits for most investors, but in the sense that the few get rich at the expense of the majority who are naive. To me, honestly, the only thing that matters is how Bitcoin will go in all this, because everything else makes very little or practically no sense.

One big factor which would influence this is CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currency).
If more countries adopt Bitcoin or launch their own blockchain related currencies to function alongside regular cash, that would draw in lots of users and spark more global adoption. With contribution from general growth of awareness about cryptocurrencies and new trends popping up like NFTs, then 1 billion in that timeframe is very reasonable.

What could be the effect of such wave? Well, it could dilute the number of users who actually use crypto covertly and remove the "crypto" in cryptocurrencies, as more centralized platforms emerge.

It works like a wave kind of adoption from what I see. When the price is rising, more and more newbies are joining the market of course with the sole purpose to make quick money. And of course many are left disappointed at the end. Then the hype wave goes away and the boring "bear" or "accumulation" market becomes a reality for a year or two, some of the newbies are still hanging around waiting for the new wave.
So and so after some years more and more newbies are coming to the market so the predicted number is not far from the truth.

Of course there's also "bans" and "regulations" which everyone fears but, majority of the countries look at the crypto with a positive view.

One big factor which would influence this is CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currency).

most of the CBDC are not being invented using blcockchains. they are just using the multisig element to have xx trusted parties sign value into existance in a smart contract. and then use that contract to then split value in sub-smart contracts. like those federated coins and altnets you see pegged to real assets.

as for one billion users. well thats users of CEX (centralised exchanges) accounts. not 1 billion people owning their own private keys associated with actual utxo's

the real big news is when 1billion people have retirement plans investing in crypto. again they are technically buying shares of centralised companies that have crypto assets as locked collateral. but the value of each users investment would be higher.

For me one thing is for sure, and that is cryptocurrency has a greate future so his statement is possible it's just that we really don't know when. Coinbase CEO must be looking on growth of users per year that's why he's able to predict the possible growth on the next 10 to 20 years. And we all know, predictions based on data are not that accurate and there should be a small discrepancies but it possible, so it is possible to have a billion users in the next 10 years. And as we see on the news, cryptocurrencies specifically bitcoin are slowly being adopted globally. While the CEO of Coinbase predicted that 1 Billion users will be hit in 10 to 20 years, the CEO of Crypto.com predicted the same amount of users but in a shorter amount of time. According to him, 1 Billion users will be hit by the end of 2022 base on this article from them: LINK

Between the 2 prediction, I think the CEO of Coinbase is more realistic and I think it will happen knowing that many can happen in the next 1 to 2 decades. At that time, there are more people already and we might see those kids at the present involving themselves into crypto. Anything can happen in that time span so I think it will happen and its reachable.

Consequently, most if not all predictions are wrong too. You should make your own research on Bitcoin and build up your own plan. 5 years, 10 years or 20 years, what is your plan for such periods?

Will you take profit at after 5 years, 10 years, 20 years no matter what price it will reach to?

For me, I don't predict Bitcoin price with time and I don't restrict my profit taking price at any price. If I see it grows too hot, I will take profit. However, I will wait to buy it again with price dips.

The prediction seems reasonable and with that much people using bitcoin then without a doubt the price is bound to go up as well, however such prediction makes sense if we assume that the current economic system is still in place and showing no signs of further deterioration, something I find doubtful, so it is entirely possible that the prediction falls short and a lot more people use bitcoin as it is a natural to think for me that the economies of the world would be in an even worse shape at that time.

You can see two countries already that make bitcoin already a legal tender, you can see where the price and marketcap of bitcoin began, now bitcoin is having over $700 billion in marketcap and the whole crypto marketcap in the world is now having a marketcap greater than 2 trillion dollars. That is huge. No one should be saying this to people that have been familiar with cryptocurrencies  some years ago that crypto future is bright. The future is bright and there are more achievements to come. People are getting to know more about cryptocurrencies. You can see top universities in the world starting to offer crypto courses. I still see this 13 years of bitcoin creation and adoption as still the beginning of what to come in the crypto bright future.
