The Computer hardware child board has really become such a mess, I know the rules/preference is that certain subject needs to dominate in order to have it's own child board, and as it stands right now, the Computer hardware is dominated by ASIC miners.

Looking at the first 20 topics, about 60% of the topics there are ASIC miner related, this has been the case for months (I did not cherry-pick the first page). Grin

Code:
1- ASIC Miner
2- Laptop
3- ASIC Miner
4- ASIC Miner
5- ASIC Miner
6- ASIC miner
7- GPU
8- GPU
9- PC case
10- ASIC miner
11- ASIC miner
12- ASIC miner
13- ASIC miner
14- ASIC miner
15- ASIC miner
16- ASIC miner
17- ASIC miner
18- ASIC miner
19- PC PSU
20- GPU

Someone who is actually looking for "computer hardware" in that child board will have a very hard time.

I suggest that ASICs have their own child board (for both alt and BTC).

Mikey.

By doing that, then breadcrumb navigation will be

Marketplace > Goods > Computer hardware > MarketPlace

Isn't that confusing? Especially when mods or someone wants to move the topic to that certain Marketplace board and MarketPlace child board.

It would be better to name something unique if its possible to have a new child board.

Marketplace > Goods > Computer hardware > MarketPlace
Seems you're misunderstood @OP

He mean

Marketplace > Goods > Computer hardware > ASICs

However that's board doesn't really have an active thread, unlike Bitcoin discussions or Beginner & Help, it's supposed the other hardware (Laptop, GPU, PC etc excluding ASIC miner) is still visible IMO. If the ASIC thread is really active and make the other hardware thread buried, then I would consider the new child board. Currently it's still fine for me, I don't know for other people.

Isn't that confusing?

That would be confusing indeed, although I am confused about how you got to that confusion (Maybe because I forgot to mention "Goods" in the title?)  Cheesy, anyway, the indexing I am suggesting is

Marketplace> Goods > ASIC Miner.

Marketplace > Goods > Computer hardware > ASICs

That works too, but I think ( Marketplace> Goods > ASICs ) would be better, ASIC miners by market definition aren't exactly computer hardware, and since there are more topics regarding ASICs than anything else "computer", they might as well get their own child board right under the Goods' board, at least IMO.

Okay, got it. Thanks. I was confused in the title for the particular MarketPlace where it is actually Marketplace.

Hmmm by doing that then the computer hardware board will be almost empty. As what i've seen there, I guess that board was actually created for ASICs (correct me if im wrong though).

Not really, GPUs and actual computer hardware topics are still there, and will be there.

I don't think so, when that board was created there was little to no ASICs, if you scroll back a few years, you will see that most people were selling their PCs, Laptops, and related parts, recently since mining bitcoin (as well as many other coins) is only done on ASIC miners, that board became dominated by ASIC topics.

The thing is, ASIC miners only interest people who mine with ASICs, those are unique and specific users, the rest of the members who visit that board do it to shop for a laptop, headphones, a new ram stick, or anything computer-related, and on the other side, someone who wants to buy/sell an ASIC miner will have to filter those users selling their PC parts, it's just a mess because the audiences of both categories are different.

I support your suggestions with an exceptions.

Don't confuse between computer hardware and mining hardware, both are different stuffs. The thing is mining through GPU or CPU no longer profitable, that's why most of the thread about ASICs miner.

In Altcoins marketplace, there's only few thread are looking for mining hardware, so I don't think it's need to create a new child board.

I remember you posting the same request some time ago.
I support this change, it will help a lot those who are looking to buy graphic cards and other hardware.
ASICs were flooding the board for too long.

I have always understood that the computer hardware sub was intended to be trading mostly mining related equipment. This might include ASIC’s and also things such as power supplies and other things that help ASIC’s running smoothly.

I suggest that ASICs have their own child board (for both alt and BTC).
This would clean up things for sure, or theymos could just rename Computer hardware board to ASIC mining, since majority of topics/offers are ASIC related.
I would like to have one board that is strictly dedicated for trading laptops, desktop computers, and components like GPU, RAM, etc, there is also smartphones and similar devices like raspberry pi's.
Maybe we can move all that to general Goods board because I don't see enough offers currently so it doesn't make sense to make new board for that.

It's not the only new board that's needed imho.
Now and then Bitcoin -> Mining -> Hardware gets discussion about GPUs and I feel it would be unfair to report for being off topic, since Mining (Altcoins) doesn't seem to have a hardware related (child) board.
Nothing big though, just saying...

crypto mining comes to a specific stage, mostly because of upcoming changes in the Ethereum network. Profitability declines almost on daily basis, and this is one of the reasons why there is a growing supply of mining hardware. If we were to separate a special category for ASIC miners, why wouldn’t that be the case for all mining equipment?
as far as I know, ASICs are just part of this industry, then in the next wave they would open a separate category for each mining hardware manufacturer.
