It is strange that you say that you are a newbie, your account was registered in 17. You took a rather long pause or this account was transferred to you. Over such a long period, I think you could figure out what to invest in, but in general, what you buy is a good choice, these assets are quite stable and can bring profit.

It seems you are afraid if you coin get dumped after buying because bear is still on its way! but honestly nobody can accurately predict  what will happen  tomorrow. So you should rather divided your fund and invest with potential coin like btc, eth, xrp, bnb. If those get dumped then buy again and minimum the loss. Or you can wait. Potential coins will always pump.

well anytime when the value gets corrected is always the right time, what you need honestly is just some patience to wait until things goes your way and then you start investing.
just outright investing when the price hitting all time high doesn't seem that wise to me honestly therefore basic knowledge about when to invest should be known.
but then again if you plan to invest for long term, anytime is best time for investment since you're investing for long term anyway.
therefore if the price just didn't increase you can just wait it out.

I will not recommend you any guarantee for bear market because it is unknown to everyone. I think it's better to think about investing for a longer period of time to get bear markets. Moreover, if you get profit from any coin, then sell it immediately because the price of that token may not increase during bear market later.

Just do your homework in reviewing each project and then decide if how much portion of your investment you are willing to risk.

If you want to keep Bitcoin instead of using altcoins then it is definitely a good decision because you will lose when the altcoins market may take more dump in the future. Either way grab as much btc as you can to secure your future. Because investing in btc will make you safe and secure and also you can earn by trading.

Old thread but valid question.  For altcoins there never really is a way to find out.  I'd say if you are interesting in coming into a project but can't figure out the best position for entry (or exit) well then maybe just cost share your way into and put of coins.  It limits your downside risk while providing opportunity if a coin spikes its not like ypu missed the whole thing. That would be my advise.

honestly entry could be easily determined when is the right time to make such entry, it's right after there is massive corrections occurred to the markets, its just too many are too scared to invest around that time, why? because the markets seems like its about to face some impending doom in which has caused many to be reluctant to invest worrying that their investment gonna vansih into thin air, when usually after certain periods the corrections will hits rock bottom, even if it could go lower even more, it will not be that much lower.
that is the right time to make an entry, of course there is still risk involved of the investment losing because the price keeps falling after all its like catching a falling knives but when the price already going rock bottom from its previous peaks, you know it can never go that much lower.

I think, when the price of that particular altcoins decrease from highest to lowest show that the right time to buy altcoins has come because when you buy at that moment there is a hope of winning something big when the price increase higher. I think everyone should know about bear season as the current season goes on. We are still not out of the bear season but chances are close that the bull season will begin. Bear season is when all crypto currency prices fall more than 90%.Long term investors wait for the bull season when their investments will get them with good returns. However, the investment made for short term should be sold immediately whenever it gives profit. You are right that Crypto currency prices go up and down so one should book their profits. There is never buying in bull season but buying is always done during bear season.

when btc below last cycle ath which is under 20k, and yet people out there will drive you to avoid buying coins with spreading fear and doubt that btc will hit crazy low 10k.
thats scenario still some people believe with usdt&binance fall, in todays world thats beyond only fear and imagination in some insider with the problem about us economy with overhype their hypotesa 
some people just dca when btc hit under 20k, and for me doing ping-pong with half fiat/crypto to ensure safe and not missing the train

Good thing the OP didn't buy some altcoins when he wanted to because the market was hit heavily last year and many altcoins saw their lowest prices as many coins dumped. The market has recovered since then but it doesn't look like we'll be heading upward since we might be expecting another dump to happen as Bitcoin is finding it very challenging to stay above $30k.
I think the best time to invest in altcoins is when bitcoins crosses its previous all time high. It might be a little late since some altcoins would have gained some price increase during that time but it's better because altcoins season comes after bitcoin has pumped. When chosing altcoins to invest into during this period you have to be very selective as there'll be many scams in the market.
Before this time you're meant have some altcoins you should be already following and monitoring their every move to make sure they're not scams and they're following their roadmap so you can know that you're investing into a good profit that can give you profits before the altcoins season gets exhausted and altcoins starts dumping again because the market is turning bearish.

Logically right, buy solid asset or stay with Bitcoin and wait for the next bull season, instead of risking your money and be beaten by fear and panic-ly sell when the bear season dumps the market.

It's more about how you prepare yourself and how you will position your investment. The right time is when
