Commentary is underated in sports and commentators are not giving enough recognition for the role they play in sports.

You cannot ignore their roles in any sports because they are the first you will see at the start of the events and you will likely listen to what they will say in the whole course of the events

I had this recent experience where I streamed live a recent premier league game and it had no audio, although it was expected to be an exciting game, I did not enjoy the game, not until the audio came up and i could now hear the commentary.

No one will, for me when the game or match is boring and I happen to watch it on the internet I change my tab but still listen to what the commentators are saying.

Commentators add colour and enhance our viewing experience, they are well informed about the sport and the teams in contest, and give real time updates on a live game that can even make someone new to a sport pick interest. Without commentary and sports commentators, some sporting games will be entirely very unexciting and eventually boring to watch.

That's true that is why the promoters will pick the best people who are knowledgeable in the sports you don't just pick anyone to be a commentator, the resume should be more on the sports they cover

Can you enjoy your sports viewing experience without commentary and  commentators?

I tried one but I cannot focus on the game I need commentators' input to see how the match or game is happening.

In Dota 2, I think I can watch even without commentators. It's because I'm trained to do so to make my watching in silence.

But it's fun to hear commentaries while watching and I'll choose that than to put my watching experience in silence. I'm doing that because of some situation when I'm watching.

They portray a huge role to hype each play, good or bad and that's connecting them with the viewers that are truly fans and passionate with the sports or esports that we watch.

I don't find this a question. Why?

In a live event e.g basketball, there's no such thing as a commentator but still, the experience is more intense than watching behind the screen. I already have lots of experience watching live games from small leagues and tournaments to big ones. No commentator but just the sound of the big crowd.

Or are you just referring to an online sports event without commentators? Is there any in the first place? Most do have a commentator.

Commentators are what brings matches alive and enjoyable to play and exciting for the watchers unlike watching a game where there's no one giving commentary and it is so boring. I don't think that commentators are underrated and not recognized, I have watch somewhere where a commentators are what shown first before the match of Dota 2 and introduced before the game start. Well, there are times that I don't like the commentators in a game which he is not fit with the game that he is giving commentary which doesn't bring excitement and needed another commentator to do the job.

Commentators are the ones who do really say or do tell on whats happening on the field and do really adds up the vibe when watching a particular sports.I agree that i do much prefer on

having these dudes rather than watching a game without having these kind of noises. For some they might see that its not really that needed or relevant but once you do able to experience

I can't imagine a game without commentators and fans, the game will be a bored one to watch. Fans  chanting and victory songs are what Ginger the players to play better on pitch. Commentators are really doing a good work to put the game in action, they connect the fans to football, they even talks facts about a team long forgotten, so commentry is one of the basis of football. Let's just say fans are the main people behind the teams Victory, due to their victorious hype and songs, no player would want to play below their expectations and it's really good for recharge team.

Exactly! Sometimes even in the radio they managed to give you full and exact information about what is happening in the current game. I couldn't imagine sports tournament without commentators, even in Chess tournament there's a commentator.

It's like watching a movie, you don't know the plot and how the story goes, commentators are very important, they are not only adding excitement to the game or the events but they keep the show interesting and moving, even if the game or match is boring they make it lively by making out of the match or events commentary, they are not only covering important events or match they give you history and future of the sports they are recovering.

Watching a game with commentators makes it more exciting and lively and that is their job. But sometimes I prefer watching games without commentaries. There are many commentators that are at times bias to a specific player or a certain team. Casuals may not notice them but hardcore fans can understand what they are implying. Sometimes I am forced to turn on the audio because of the loud cheering from the fans which I want to feel too. When streaming online, sometimes there are channels from different countries. So I don't care if I don't understand their language as long as I can avoid bias commentating.

They are hired because they are not only commentators or they are not just hyping the game, they are expert or somehow they know the game they are hosting. They also help people to understand some things that some people doesn't know maybe the rules of the game, techniques etc. They can help you to decide on what team you may give your bet as well. So technically and realistically they can help as well.

In most of the games I watch I don't care about the commentators that's why I think the commentators are not very important when I'm watching the games, that's because the commentators don't comment on what's going to happen in the game, they comment on what's going on currently happening in the game and i just want to know who will win the game so i can make a profit or at least when it comes to team i am a fan i am interested in knowing if they win or not. I'm not interested in the comments, sometimes I even prefer to watch the game without sound and I prefer to watch the game to listen to music, there are few cases in which I watch the game while listening to the commentary

From Formula 1, boxing, Moto GP, UFC, Wrestling, tracks to football, commentaries are very important. I tried it in the past by muting ongoing games to watch how I would enjoy it or not. It was not enjoyable. The excitements that follow the voices of commentators add glamour to games. We see the disappointment in the voices of commentators when the teams they support are losing or the country of their birth is facing defeat. It shows how passionate we are to what we like. But I do not know if those watching it life at the venue of these sports get to hear the commentaries life like those who watch from their homes.

Commentators play an important role in every field of sports, commentators must be experienced to explain the ongoing matches, commentators are inherent in every sport so without commentators we don't enjoy the match because it will be very boring while watching it, even though we are watching our favorite match.

Yes it is same voice out put for the games watching live. The spetactors also have more excitement to see the commentators live if staying close to them especially in football matches, boxing arenas, basketball pitches etc. Commentary is the excitement of the game of sports, really when you take down the volume of the television while watching the game looks unexcited.

Much depends on the personality of the commentator. In my country many commentators have a corresponding reputation and viewers prefer to watch either without sound or with field sound ) And for example, if the viewing takes place in the company of friends (beer, etc.), then no commentator is needed, since in this case each viewer is a commentator. In general, I have nothing against commentators if they are professional and do not obviously support this or that team.

to be honest, commentators make a match run more interesting especially sports matches that have big fans like football, boxing/ufc and basketball. I think a sports match will be boring without any commentators so that the pay for them is quite large from what I heard especially those that can bring a funny atmosphere.

They are not underrated since commentator are also considered a celebrity in some ways especially if you are going into a big league you can hear a lot of good reviews to them. In my country, most of the commentator are also an athlete before and they played the same sports which I think is the best way to hire a commentator since they are the one who have an experience with that sports and they can easily give comments if they are familiar with the sports personally, they are your best savior if you are just watching online.
