Even if the match or the event is exciting I could not watch it without these commentators they add value excitement and information to the matches they are the voice of the match or the events, even if you don't know much about the sports that you're watching you'll get insight and information by just listening to these commentators.

This is very true especially for audience who are relatively new/beginner on that type of sport/game.

I remember, in chess24, there are three (3) casters currently which are composed of two (2) grandmasters of the sport and one (1) caster that has little-to-no clue about chess. The good thing is, since chess is somehow a difficult sport to understand, these newbie watches can associate themselves with that lone beginner caster in order to understand fully the game. They can see the perspective and ask some questions that the lone caster would also ask these GMs in their field.

The benefit of having casters can definitely bring a lot on the table; not just pure commentary and entertainment but also some insightful knowledge about the game/sport itself.

All of us are different and maybe those who don't want commentators like to watch the show peacefully. There are really people that are like that but most of all there are people that likes more sound, it makes them extra happy and excited.

Commentators gives information but those who don't want commentators are already familiar with the game and the teams that are playing but if they aren't, they will not be bothered by the commentators and they will look for it if there is no one around. Pandemic have still not ended and there are still no real audiences on a ring or stadium. There are no noise, so for me having commentators are necessary nowadays.

We have different preferences some people want to add a commentator so even though they didn't watch or even aware of the other side that we didn't focus on they can tell to its viewers and also it creates a more hype than the usual game like most silence it gives additional impact to the game itself to catch more viewers to the match itself.

I would never, ever watch sports without commentary. It feels bland and absurd, like food without flavor. Commentary gives your viewing experience some more colors that you don't see unless you're being told to by the commentator who makes the action more exciting and the play more epic. The first thing I do whenever I try to search for games to watch is to see if there is any English commentary. If not, I just skip it no matter how hard I follow the teams that are playing on the said game. You simply cannot enjoy it without commentators hyping the game for you.

For a fact, there is a lot of adrenaline rush in sports and commentary makes it even the more interesting. You know, they tend to fine tune your emotions to suit the moment and the next yiu know, your either super excited or you get even sad as, they could be picking on your team pretty hard at times. Today, one of the commentators in the EPL Chelsea 1:1 Evrrton game referred to Thomas Tuchel, the Chelsea manager to have acted like a ball boy by picking balls while Chelsea was loosing. It was funny but sadly, that was it for the moment and the Chelsea fans in the stadium was mostly quiet in the game. The players were playing upto expectations but not the ones that mattered in producing a goal.

Commentators are there for some specific reasons and one of that is to get the people informed and keep updated real time especially when the game is football, the athletes will be too small for us to see even we are watching it live, the commentator will do that job for us to give us the detail on who made some fouls, goal and etc.

Surely these sports giants won't bother hiring commentators if they're not doing any good on the sport.

I stand to be corrected but I don't think commentary is underrated some times the commentators are not heard because technical issues which happens very rarely and it gets fixed immediately. Commentators are as important as the footballers on the field. There is barely any match held without a commentator expect there is a bridge in communication

They are not underrated since commentator are also considered a celebrity in some ways especially if you are going into a big league you can hear a lot of good reviews to them. In my country, most of the commentator are also an athlete before and they played the same sports which I think is the best way to hire a commentator since they are the one who have an experience with that sports and they can easily give comments if they are familiar with the sports personally, they are your best savior if you are just watching online.

The same thing happens to me. When at some point I had to remove the sound for whatever reason, the match, or rather the experience I have watching the match, changes completely.

I think what commentators do is to enhance the excitement of watching sporting events.

I'd still enjoyed watching without commentators as the volume is totally turned off, though having it on the background is perfect.

Commentators also play a vital role in the game because audiences especially those who are just streaming will be able to understand the game more appropriately even without focusing well on it.
