Some newbies buy coins for investing sake and some don't know how reliable the coin is, if newbies want to invest in projects it is better they stary up with reputable coin such as bitcoin,  as they grow to make research on how to go about new projects they will be careful to fall for shit coin.

If you are referring to a kind of mentor here on Bitcointalk, I wouldn’t go to the extent of trying to find someone to play that role. You may get acquainted with someone trustworthy and be able to query him a bit more than others, but in general terms, I think you may find that a collective of people will provide helpful answers here. Mentorship seems a bit of an extreme hope.

They’re not really stable, and tend to be rather variable in price and tendency direction. In the long run though, those crypto that have a real utility, are necessary, and have an important ecosystem built around them have better chances of subsisting.

That’s a biggy, but on a more modest level, understanding it and being able to securely buy/hold/sell/use it seems like a good enough goal.

That's because they are not experienced in finding reliable sources of information and only follow the words of other people whose information is not clear. This should make them realize that what they are doing is wrong and must change immediately. Otherwise, they will not be able to profit from what they invest. A new coin may not necessarily provide a large profit because it is the same as gambling with the coin. It is better you select bitcoin or other altcoin that have a good position at the market.

2. It is very important for you an investor to know about their products, generally crypto companies, they have tiered products, however if you are looking at just one product, be careful investing in their project.
3. Before investing, consulting crypto experts is important, don't trust marketing immediately, so you don't become their soft target.

These are the reasons why most newbies have been tricked and got fallen into the wrong investments. 
 
 * Lack of knowledge and experience
 * Wrong investment plan - they believe Ponzi scheme or quick rich scheme
 * lazy to do research - they just follow what the others are saying rather than making their own research to verify them.

Invest first to learn about the crypto market before making a decision to invest. In this way, you can't avoid investing in unreliable and scam projects.

I personally think that the first thing a newbie in crypto should do is learn how to survive in the crypto space.
If you keep running behind money in the beginning then the market will eat you up.
You will feel cheated and will probably quit crypto. But if you learn how to survive and then later on learn how to make sustainable profits then you can stay in crypto space for a long time.
Don't run behind profit by investing in new coins but try to invest in well established coins like bitcoin and ethereum and monitor how they perform over the period of time.
Learn how things work and the fundamentals of the particular coin you invest in. That is how you can be successful in the long term.

A little paranoid about the high probability of failure of a new project seems like a good thing for everyone to do. People can say anything because the truth is they never really do much for whatever they talk about (especially about youtube content). You can't be 100% sure it's correct because basically not all new projects succeed in making investors worth the profits.

OP, don't be greedy about investing. You have to learn a lot of things if you want to profit from this investment because new projects don't guarantee profit because the probability of failure is much higher because many of them just want your investment without much development.

Newbies and when I mean newbies, it's not limited to the forum ranks but in in investment as a whole and given the cause of this thread, the crypto investments. Hence, running into loses is by newbies is very frequent and thats because of the profit oriented idea they tend to come with.
You know, you've not got to know the trade, not to mention the tricks involved, you just believe you would buy low and let it pump to the profit and that's it. Eventually, you pick the wrong project and your money is all gone!

Speaking of coins that won't turn out to be scam, there is no specific way or no telling which project could scale through in the crypto field until it eventually does. Best advice, stick with bitcoin, buy and hold for a long term to make the most out of the price fluctuations.

One needs to be extra ordinary careful amount all this new coin. Some of them are scam. Alot of scammers are out there now. We need to be careful about the coin we will invest on. Firstly investigation is very important. Ask questions about any project you want to invest on and make sure people have been earning from it before you jam into it. If I were you, I will never follow other people to invest in new projects although they always influence and promise big profits and earnings in the future. Because, the more they promise, the more they will make us disappointed. I will never think that I can put my money into new projects. If I were you, I will simply go to Bitcoin as my first investment choice because this is safer than altcoins. Although we all know that crypto investment will always require risks, we can see and consider the risks that we take, not over the loss that we may afford.
Just be wise to ourselves, learn more about crypto investment, and never be greedy by only focusing on high profits instantly.

I will like to advise little on the expected steps from you in your cryptocurrency journey, what males you think investing on new project is the best option for you? what have you research about thise new projects tht warrant you to have a deal in them, the truth is most of them are forms of scam, they fail and fold up along the way, sometimes those behind them pump money into it just to rate it high and hyoe the numbers of investors just to suddenly withdrew their funds and renders it vulnerable, go for bitcoin as the only digital currency worth having your investment with.

Some people introduce this on newbies and promised a huge earning then they make bitcoin as example that's why many people got hyped then fall to be a new bag holders of those new shit tokens. Really? you spend a lot of money without asking first or doing any DYOR? You  must have invested small amount first and try to buy and sell if you got error selling it then 100% its a scam, There are plenty of them in BSC market dont fall from this kind of projects, better to ask first here before throwing any amount.

Never you believe on only what people say on YouTube to place a crypto investment, because YouTubers are only there for the views and could do anything to get that views because views is the money when it comes to YouTube, but it's only a few that will say "This is not a financial advise, do your own research"..  It's a pity newbies are the ones who suffer the most, there are certain things to look out for in a new crypto project and they include, market cap, the team, the project's community on all social media and how active they are e.t.c 
But at times these don't always guarantee that a project may not be scam, that's why I always tell people Bitcoin is the best crypto investment plan
