1050ti is no longer suitable for mining Eth. You can play with it mining other coins and get a feel for mining, but you won't make any money
with it. Build slow, buy a new GPU for your PC and mine with it, then expand to a mining rig later.

Keep using the GTX 1050Ti till you get some miners and I like the idea of buying the miners in August and that's even if graphic cards loses more value, use the below calculator to find the most profitable pool for your gpu but 1050 ti is too low end.
 Be expecting 0.30$ to 0.50$

Waiting until August is a good idea if you don't have any more cards / rigs right now.

With your 1050ti you can use with Nicehash to mine and receive in BTC, I don't know which algo is more profitable with a 1050ti (probably not profitable if you are paying for electricity) but can teach you some things to get used if you decided to mount a rig after your decision in August.
You can learn how to mine, overclock, temperature, payments, crypto etc, but don't expect profits, cryptos are in a bear market and it's almost not profitable to most of us home/small miners.

I agree now that the price of for example the Rtx 2060 Super 8 Gb is good enough to just test the waters and see for yourself.I would also suggest this journey/learning path, just upgrade your video card and see for yourself for a couple of months,if you like what you see, then most probably you can go ahead and build a full mining rig.

Nothing beats cheap graphic cards for mining long term, use your present GPU for some practice, pools and stuffs then when the right time comes you will be able to buy 700$ GPU in bull market for 300$, look forward to that.

Mostly my advice piggybacking on this would be to make sure that you spend USD and not BTC on your GPUs.  That's the best way in my opinion to achieve ROI, otherwise you'll be looking at the BTC price and wishing you had just held in a few years.  Spending USD to buy miners has always been the winning move in crypto in my opinion and the biggest stings I've had in my crypto experience is spending BTC and not buying more to replace it immediately.  Then you get mad at start looking for people to blame.  Save yourself the trouble and spend you fiat to mine crypto.  Smiley

Using the hardware you already have for mining is always a good idea in my opinion.

Yes, 1050Ti probably won't make you more than $10-15 per month, but you will learn how to mine with various apps and/or on various pools.

And if you invest those $10-15 per month smart, within two years you may have $300-400, which if invested properly may turn to $3000-4000(we all know why in 2 years Tongue).

Well, torture your video card for 20 cents of profit per day.

If you are learning how to set up mining software, then use this opportunity for August.

If you had thought about it back in 2009 to 2016, you would have became a millionaire by now. However, for now, your configuration is not suitable for mining anymore. So I would suggest you not to burn your system by mining. Rather get a mining rig for that purpose.

I have a 1660ti and it just produces 27 mh/s. I have tried mining ETH using it but didn't have much luck with it. If you have got a i9 processor, you mught want to try XMR or other GPU resistant coins but again don't try solo mining ever.

Your 1660ti should give you 30-32MH not 27MH, that's the type of hashrate you should get from a normal 1660 non ti and non Super, it's because you aren't using the right configuration or OC combinations. Use Trex miner and lock the core clock to 1300 using Hive OS and meme clock 1600-1900.

How long does it take to learn to start mining on a computer with 1 video card? For mining, you need to buy a mining farm or build it yourself, then the beginner will get more useful experience.1050 ti is an old video card, before mining you need to change the thermal paste and check the condition of the thermal pads.

Newbies learning mining by using their old cards is fine. His 1050ti could still be profitable if he found the right coin to mine. Of course, p/p won't be optimized but that should do for the learning experience. I remember back in the old days, I was mining the DGB coin with a 940m card. Yes, it was a mobile VGA on a laptop. I think I paid for electricity more than I make it back by selling DGB coin on bittrex and slowly reducing the life cycle of my laptop. But it was fun and it help me to learn the basics of setup .bat, command line for pools, and such.

I didn't realize that! I was using Nicehash miner. Is there any possibility that Nicehash is stealing some of the powers from the hardware? I will try the Trex miner and the configuration you've shared here if I decide to go back to mining again. As of now, I have completely stopped mining as I use my laptop for other activities like gaming and graphics design. Also I believe, if I start mining full time, it will ruin the hardware over a period of time as laptops are not really that well built to handle a huge amount of heat for a longer period of time. Thanks for the tip though!

If your laptop is a gaming laptop then it's good for mining, the only thing you shouldn't do is mining 24/7 on a laptop, gaming is a huge workload just as mining too but continues mining won't be safe for a laptop so you can get away with few hours mining per day.

Why mine on a laptop 2 hours a day?
A very small profit, and this has not been profitable for a long time, because the shortage of video cards is over.
I am also against mining on laptops, but if it is profitable for you and the warranty service will repair the laptop, then mining is possible ..
