How to change a text font within the forum

I would like to ask how to change the font text of Bitcointalk from its default text?

Websites render codes from coding languages differently, this can lead to differences in the way the website appear. This is not much of an issue and does not affect how the user interacts with the website.

AFAIK, there's no on forum feature to change the text font, it's possible to use a user script for this. Always apply lots of caution when using third party browser extensions.

You can do that in Brave browser settings, and I think they changed something including default font settings in last few releases.
Changing font is the same like for Chrome browser, in Appearance tab click on Customize Fonts and select fonts you like most.
I did some search on internet and it appears that Brave Shield is affecting fonts making them look weird, and there is github issue reported 8 days ago, so this may be connected with your issue:

I don't get it what text are you talking about that changed?

The image doesn't show anything it looks the same unless you talking about the bolded parts like your username?

You can simply zoom in and out on that page if you want to make your fonts look big or small.
You can also use CTRL+scroll Wheel down or up to zoom in and out.

I'm guessing this probably depends on the OS. I've just tried playing with Bitcointalk on Brave, by turning all the privacy settings on Brave to the maximum and there seems to be no change with the font on my side. I'm using MacOS on this specific device.

I really don't get what you want to do in this forum but changing fonts is possible by using script but changing the font that forum is using then I don't know any of it. I don't think you can change the font that the forum normally use but when using script then it could be change to any font you wanted to use and these are the font styles that is what I found so, I would say try to use different font styles that are not on the list so, you may know and see if it will work too.

Well, every browser has some default settings and fonts, and they are built in such a way that if the encoded fonts fail, the browser will work with the default fonts.
But it the case of brave browser, it blocks so many things and I believe part of which is the coded font style. You can manipulate this with script, but I feel it doesn't worth the stress as both fonts are almost alike.

I had the same problem several days ago, I do not know the reason for its appearance because I did not update the browser, but I did some updates to the operating system, so I think it is the cause of the problem.

I tried to find a solution, and did not find any. I opened a message with Brave support and I did not find any response.

Was anyone able to fix it? The forum works fine on the rest of the browsers.

I said the solution in my previous post, disable fingerprint blocking in Brave ad blocker settings - Advanced Control - Allow fingerprinting, and your fonts will turn back to normal like it was before.
This is only temporary fix until Brave developers fix this bug, but bitcointalk forum is not tracking or fingerprinting anything anyway, so you don't have to worry about that.

Frankly, I don't know if it's just me and my eyes playing tricks on me for I can't make out any difference between both pictures OP shared. Again, about a font type; I know everyone is restricted to Verdana. I'm cool with that. It's pleasant to the eyes. You don't want to have to adjust while reading like when users adjust font size and colour or when they use sup or sub texts. All those can hurt sensitive eyes. I like the homogeneity in font style and I believe it will stay that way a long time.

This issue has started recently for me not sure if it is happening to everyone. You can check on their forum for solution to your issue

It doesnt work, makes the display looks worse actually.

For those who can't distinguish the difference and want to reproduce the "looks" in Chrome or Edge:

• Open his/your profile, then launch "inspect" (CTRL+SHIFT+I).
• Go to "Sources" tab (in Chrome), "Debugger" tab in Edge.
• Expand "bitcointalk.org->Themes->custom1->style.css".
• Go to line '65' and edit the font "verdana" into something else wrong or delete it like: font-family: wow, sans-serif; or font-family: sans-serif;
• That will leave the next font "sans-serif" active.

That actually makes sense. In my understanding, browser fingerprinting also involves detecting user fonts installed on the system (if two users have identical fonts available to the browser, they are more likely to be the same user), so Brave browser probably masks this option as part of their shielding technology. This is probably the reason why Verdana isn't available as a default font on the bitcointalk.org website, causing the display to look different than on other browsers.

Actually the suspect here is not websites, it is the browser itself.

If a browser doesn't attach any fonts to it (and I don't think SMF will use any beside sans-serif), then the default browser font configured inside its settings will be used to render the text. I know that this font can be changed under Chrome and Firefox, but I'm not sure with Brave Browser and its different UI; it's theoretically possible.

I've noticed this before when I accessed my bitcointalk account from brave browser, though it didn't show alot or noticeable difference.
All I can say is that it's not a bitcointalk issue but a browser issue, some browsers display texts differently based on how they were coded, and sometimes, it's also device issue most especially when using mobile phones, there are some mobile devices that are not compatible with some type of text fonts.

I don't know about Brave, but there is a way to permanently save changes done on Chrome with Inspect Element on your computer. It's a browser extension called Permanent Inspect Element.  

I haven't tested it personally, but came across it in a video explaining different things you can do with Inspect Element. I remember that the person said you have to click the save button dozens of times because it doesn't always save the changes with just one or two clicks. Install and use at your own risk of course! It hasn't been updated since 2020 though.

Yeah, that's probably true. I wouldn't expect it to work in any other way. Each page is unique in its own way and uses different codes and styles. But I remember coming across some type of CSS code extension that allows you to copy/paste element style changes to have them registered for the entire domain. Can't remember what it's called exactly. Font changes should be an elementary thing to do I guess.

I am just playing around with the Inspect element features at times to do some basic changes and page manipulation for the fun of it. I certainly don't know much about it.
