Seeking a 10 BTC for a reasonable premium. DM.

What do you consider to be a reasonable premium?  Any idea what sales of these are going for recently?  Pretty rare that one of these changes hands...

Always nice to see my coins.  Smiley  I see them about as frequently as everyone else (or maybe less) so it's always nice to catch a glimpse of them again on the forums.  Sort of makes you realize how useless valuable collectibles are though, as they exist now mostly as an image on the internet.  It's like they're all of ours, we just keep them at my bank.

I don't have any recent sales data. Agreed - it's rare to see these change hands. Part of that is the coordination and trust necessary to facilitate a 10 BTC+ transaction.

I'm sure there have been some of these sold that I'm not aware of, but I believe the last sale I do recall seeing was Anduck's sale several years ago for somewhere around 14 BTC if I'm not mistaken.  I reached a deal to sell one of mine for around 13 BTC not too long ago, but as you mentioned above, the buyer and I could not agree on a means of transfer.  I wanted to be paid up front, they wanted to meet in person and exchange BTC at the time of transferring the coin.  At the time that was more than half a million dollars, and I didn't feel safe taking that to meet a stranger, so no deal...

I am curious what price others who own this coin are willing to sell it for.

The worst part is one of these beauties was just peeled less than 10 days ago....

Had they only known about this forum im sure a deal could have been worked out. But in the same vein that just makes whomever owns one that much rarer. Good luck and I hope you find a seller Blu. And as always OG...gorgeous set you have there.

agreed but it's no longer a no brainer as the work involved to securely facilitate the transaction, whether through escrow or not, is non-trivial and i can see most people not wanting to risk 300k to save even 30k. esp with standard mail insurance covereage not even approaching that level.

For a coin like this you need to hire a crypto courier...a trusted forum member who provides this service ..it has been done many times...never by mail

100% I wouldn't send anything more than .10BTC via the mail. I'd either fly myself or send someone to facilitate the transaction. So yeah if things are such to where mailing has to be the only way I understand not wanting to trust that at any premium. In person or trusted courier only.

I could probably persuade one of my family to let one go for 14-16. The problem is even though at least two of them are in phenomenally good condition, they're ungraded and I understand that most people wouldn't go for that. In the UK, where they're located, there's no grading service for crypto and for the US we have the transportation problem so we're kinda stuck for now.

I saw another thread talking about PCGS. PCGS Paris have said if we get them to them, they would do the export / re-import to get them graded with their US counterparts. However, they say 3-4 months turnaround!

I wouldn't recommend my family let them go at anything less than that unless they really need to but again, if there's a real need to, then there isn't the luxury of having months and months (actually, in my case, coming up to two years) to find a means of grading / transport / secure exchange so I completely understand why someone would peel one - especially in a bear market if getting some fiat in is the priority because you could easily lose more than whatever premium-over-face one could get if the market went against you in the interim. And, in addition, you get to keep the beautiful coin!

It does seem bonkers though that we're in a world where some people would really like these and others would really like to sell these but right now there appears to be no way of breaking through the deadlock!

Ideas anyone?  Grin

Personally, I'd do this Most coin grading companies let you put your put your own value on the forms for insurance reasons, but I'm not familiar with PCGS yet! Wink

Yes, the turnaround sucks, but damn, those kinds of coins deserve a slab IMO, plus with PCGS you'll have more options with REAL auction places nowadays & in the future, like Stacks & bowers etc Cheesy

Thanks, I'm tending to think the same way. In fact, if we'd done this when I was talking to PCGS Paris in March, we'd be half way there by now Cheesy

It's interesting about the ICG v. PCGS thing because from a buyer perspective, given we know they have an established expertise in physical crypto, I'd be more comfortable buying ICG-graded coins. But from a seller perspective, if it's PCGS-graded coins that are drawing the customers, then that's what makes most sense to get done (for those with the time to wait) - unless or until they let a fake or tampered coin through unnoticed!

Yeah, agreed that PCGS gets the draw as the standard for numismatic grading, but ICG has definitely been getting some love also.
They have had 5 coins (2x Casascius / 2x Lealana / 1x BTCC) so far in the Stacks and Bowers auctions:

And from what I have been told there are supposed to be a few more in upcoming auctions Cheesy

Grin

I don’t think the problem is transporting the coin so much. If someone is willing to pay 16 BTC up front, I’ll hand deliver the coin myself with a smile and throw in a free beer.

I think the problem is mostly that buyers want to pay 10.5 BTC for these coins and sellers have 0 interest at that price. The other problem is that most of the inquiries I get on the high value coins end up being lame scam attempts. If someone was serious and willing to pay the price, the rest of the issues are easily solvable.
