Not only the top altcoins but also the bear market. Most of us only see large drops of many coins. Even BTC is similar. But honestly, that's not the reason for me to look at top altcoins' whether it's worth investing in since, as cited by the OP, I think investing requires a specific plan like preliminary research. set about choosing and building for it a specific strategy to make a profit, not just buying something indiscriminately and waiting for it to increase in price in the future.

I think you should have to consider these things:
 1. unpredictable market
 2. don't get fooled by negative hearsays and speculations, they have no basis for it - potential altcoins gains high ranks, they might change their ranks but never say they die
 3. History had also proven that it never happens again - we instead looking forward rather than remembering the past

Old projects are suppose to give investors that confidence of surviving because new projects mostly come and go, projects like solana and matic for example should give investors more peace of mind than new altcoins, I don't know why you said top altcoins aren't good choice.

For me, it will be better to risk than old coins than new projects. Old coins already put up a good reputation and established a good foundation. They have been through different situations and resisted all the challenges of the bullish and bearish market status and that's what new projects are trying to reach but unfortunately, some of them still fail. Old coins have proven us a lot and even provided us a good profit through holding them so if I were to choose where to risk my funds? I'll invest it in old and well-established coins.

It was investment 101, buy the altcoins you think will be the future of crypto. This means it will have a strong recovery bound when the market swings back to bull mode. In the bear market, altcoins drop further than BTC since BTC dominated so you shouldn't invest in even top altcoins yet.

Maybe yes, because of the bear market we will be having new set of top coins in the market in the next few months, but I think I will still buy those coins that are in the top 10 or top 20 , it is old projects yes and we should consider the fact that they already have many investors who keeps them at the top, it will not go low too much but it will all depends on the strategy of the team as well.

It happened previously. Many altcoins haven't broken previous ATH although Bitcoin broke a couple of times. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't invest in major altcoins. Even if it doesn't break ATH but it would multiply your investment. Right now investing in altcoin is quite risky due to Bitcoin volatility. The total market is shaky now. Some of your arguments are right and some needs to be corrected. for the altcoins that will not gonna survive this bearish market, I'm sure there are lots of them who will also give up their project and be replaced by another that has real road maps to follow and have real teams to do the promotions. that's why we need to be careful not to listen to those who will gonna take advantage to promote their project and they will gonna perform rug pull, that will be the worst thing to happen to you if you fell into those kinds of traps.

You know, I saw quite a few projects that had very ambitious plans, a good roadmap and a good team, but the price of the token only fell periodically. Naturally, most of the altcoins on the market are pump&dump schemes, they are created during a hype for the sole purpose of making money for their creators.

That is the mistake of investors, who buy hype coins and start holding them for years, not realizing that they have already served their purpose and no one needs them anymore. I'm in agreement with the fact that we may never see some top altcoin after this bear season. Most altcoin are short lived in the sense that some may lack the capacity to continue especially if the bear continues for a long time. Most Altcoins lacks solid foundation and could be easily uprooted when the market is not favorable.

People needs to hear this a lot more, this is not something that can be emphasized more. I mean people see top 10 coins, and think that all those top 10 coins will be awesome in the future. Go back to 2014 and check the top 10 and see how many are here today, go back to 2015,16,17,18,19 even 20 and 21, because there are some changes even from that recently. Top 10 changes, let alone top 20 which changes even quicker. So people need to realize that there is no guarantee that you will make a profit if you invest into something at the top. Sure btc, eth and bnb looks solid, but all others are build on quicksand if you ask me.

I only partly agree with you here. There are definitely examples of coins that were in the top 10 a few years ago but that are now in the top 50 or even lower in the coinmarketcap ranking so of course just because a coin is in the top 10 or top 20 now does not mean that they will still be there in a few years. That being said, i have a very hard time to imagine that coins like Ethereum, BNB or Solana will really become completely irrelevant. I mean even if they are losing their ranks in a few years to other projects then i would still expect them to have a higher price then in comparison to at the moment.

Altcoins are always the scammers playground these days so its hard to trust again even for top altcoins particularly that the market is getting more bearish. Instead, stick to bitcoin and focus on accumulating more of it to maximize your portfolio with bitcoin. In the end, altcoins are easily affected by fuds and hypes and they easily drop their value while bitcoin continue to surge and boost its price to reach another ATH.

All of the three reasons that you lists are correct. 1, many alts will never reach their ath because not all alts have a good use case but majority of them are just junks and only driven by the hype. 2, no one gets fooled of it don't worry.

The top 20 of cmc is already an high alert zone, I mean it was not the same as the top 3 or the top 5 which coins are rarely replaced on their position because coins on these group are already solid. 3, how many times it happened that a useless alt gets replaced easily by a better alt or a new alt? Many people says that investing in a new coin is risky but if we know how to pick a coin, a new coin can be more worth it than the old coin that we are holding now.

The number one is the most important thing ever. We are here even as bitcoin maximalists keep saying that things will get better and everything will recover, but what we mean really is the fact that we are going to see a ton of coins go back up to ATH but many more will not.

Bitcoin will break above 68k eventually I trust that and ETH and BNB will probably reach there too, but absolutely no others are guaranteed in my mind, some will for sure but I do not know which ones. So if you listen to bear callers then you will think nothing will break above ATH, but if you listen to Bull people, even we do not say that ALL of them will break above ATH again.

I agree with all what you said but highly doubt the last one.It is true that many altcoins will never reach their all time high and the top rank altcoins on coinmarket cap does matter anymore.We are currently in a bear market and I don't think any altcoins has survived this crash since it begin there is a lot of correlation in the crytocurrency market if Bitcoin continue to crash then all other altcoins will do the same tilll btc recover I don't have much hope in other altcoins whether new or old.

Altcoins will always have their lapses and they are not as secured and profitable as bitcoin so there's no reason why people should still consider investing in them despite that most of them fall into scams. However, i believe not all top altcoins are bound not to be profitable, some have established their demand in the crypto community and that their utility cases are still proven effective. So we should be careful in choosing projects to invest so as not to resort into regretting in the end.

Most of the major coins are definitely a better investment than the small ones, it's like the only altcoins that could survive despite having to go through a massive bearish and still left intact.
the other altcoins just gonna get delisted and vanish, but the major altcoins that have high market valuation and also high trading volume gonna survive, overall it's still the less risky investment.
