What Type of Gambler Am I?

OP: That source is very idealistic, it is based on what is expected of certain players, but in practical reality things are not as they are mentioned.

Of the things that the source says, it is important to highlight that a professional player is the one who pays his bills. He is the only thing that matters, at least in poker.

If you can pay and make winnings your main income, that makes you a professional player, who after that can easily go through the other "characteristics" that define a player, according to the position of the OP, Casual Social Gamblers, Serious Social Gamblers, Relief and Escape Gamblers, Conservative Gamblers, Personality Gamblers, Compulsive Gamblers.

For someone who manages to have an acceptable bankroll management and have an average monthly income can easily live on bets, this that there are few professional players is not so true if we compare it with other professions.

There are professional players who lose indigent amounts of money, there are professional players who are compulsive, uncontrolled, that "idealistic" concept of control is a fallacy, unless you only play face-to-face bingo.

At least in poker, professional players go through phases of downswing and go through phases of depression, change of style of play, etc.

A professional player really deals with all the evils that you name, he suffers from them like any other person, there are professional players who deal with the anxiety of betting, etc.

Finally, I would say that at least in poker there are 4 types of players:
Professional.
Semi-professional.
recreational.
Fish.

And to specifically answer the OP, sometimes I'm a winning player, sometimes I'm a losing player.

So few professional players (one of the two votes is mine)  However, I do not agree with the definition where it is said that a professional gambler lives off this activity. This is an initially false statement.

If gambling is not your profession, ie you don't live off of gambling income exclusively, then you cannot call yourself a professional gambler.
You may disagree with the definition, but I believe you are closer to the "Serious Social Gamblers" category than to the "Professional Gamblers".

There are many people who do some kind of hobby but do it stronger than professionals and do not have income from their activities. In addition, you understand that gambling is a loss-making activity? If you receive income, then you are either the owner of the casino, or a bonus hunter or arbitrageur. There are also poker grinders, they really fall under the definition of professionals.

Consider yourself to be professional not only on being profitable but also on having that good control not only on your mind but also into your emotions but well you cant really be ending up to be profitable if you havent

able to acquire these capabilities thats why you should really be having that fixed mindset on whats gambling to you whether you do make it as a career but we know that this isnt for all.You would be needing that

expertise on certain sport or game before you do able to attain but of course this do talks about being lucky too.Dont aim for something that do really talks about gambling
because not all the time you would really be ending up on a win.Only the winners are the casino owners and some good players.

You must have a very supportive partner/wife if you can go and stay until late at night in the casino house.My wife even if I get back from work one hour or two hours later because I have to stay late to finish some work,the cell phone rings constantly as she is worried about me(a loving one,caring one),I don't imagine myself going to the casino until late at night while I leave my wife and daughter at home alone,that would be a bad move for my marriage and I advice this to you too,don't keep going to the casino late at night as you may become addicted and risk your marriage,career and everything.

even my wife doesn't know I play gambling because all activities outside the home have never been a problem for us. But whatever it is, I will definitely listen to the advice you give. maybe a little story I only play casino on Sundays where at my work Sunday is a holiday for all permanent employees so I took the initiative that during the day I would fully accompany my wife and children. Well, I went to a gambling house at night and it wasn't impossible here because on average that's what happens for men to relieve stress due to workload. and it happens only once a week.

I see people who likes to gamble at certain events like Superbowl, Finals, and playoffs. Will they be in the Casual type of gamblers too? Because as I read the description about it, it is different than what I am expecting. They are not distressing but being playful in a big event.
And, as I keep on reading I can't see what bracket they should be at. Occasional gamblers?

I think they really are part of being the casual type. It's on the description but that can also be said as occasional.

So, it goes in for being casual and occasional based on what you think about them. And many not just from the forum and I've got friends who are this type of gambler.

They only bet during the playoffs and finals of the NBA.

Well, good point about mixing it up with them. For the conservative gambler's description, they fit also there because they only bet on specific time and they won't mind winning or losing.

Let's wait on what the OP thinks about this if he's going to add it categorically with what we have mentioned. Anyway, it's not much of a concern but there really goes those type of gamblers that only does it when it's necessary.

I guess you already know what type of gambler are you. When I read the title, I thought you are going to ask people about what type of gambler are you and we will give you an answer of what type of gambler you really are. Anyway, I would say that I am a conservative gambler/casual social gambler because I don't really want to gamble huge amount of money more like I gamble what I can afford to lose or a small time gambler. I also gamble to have to have fun, experience the thrill, excite, to pass the time and entertainment.

Probably i am a conversative gambler because that's what i noticed when playing afterwards and why i choosed the game that i saw see in the internet instead of staying on the game which is common. Probably because of pormotion? Lol.
and yeah i used to set time limit and buget to play, and despite of losses I'm still not giving up even it gaves me problem.

Yup, they fall under casual gamblers as you become more interested in these big events compared to the gambling side of it. I also enjoy betting on those big events but I prefer to follow the teams until the end of the season.

That's good for you. At least you can manage when you gamble and when you have to stop gambling.
But if you are a conservative type of gambler, you may need to stick to it and not violate your boundaries.
We should treat gambling like you do to avoid gambling problems like addiction and overuse of money.
But when we see promotions from casinos in many places, we can be tempted to try it, and this is what we should avoid.

Well like the majority of voters , I think we are tons of Social gamblers here that only plays when we have time and chances , we can let gambling  go anytime not like many attitude and behavior that they cannot resist the call of betting.

In the first place, thanks for this thread where this time I found and discovered of what type of gambler I am, now that I am a conservative type of gamblers through this thread topic, I could get some idea and opinion by others here in this section anyway.

True and as far as I know, any type of gambler can easily shift to a compulsive gambler if he loses himself in gambling.  Every player started like any of those types except professional, anti-social, and compulsive gamblers. Once these gamblers succumb to the urge of gambling then that is where the problem begins.

I'm a conservative gambler. I love exploring and trying new games being endorsed and promoted online. I usually get curious whenever I see an unfamiliar game or something that sounds new. I always seek new experiences and explorations because I want my gambling journey to be more exciting and thrilling.

It is good to see that nearly all of us who voted here are just casual gamblers. Are you sure your gambling activities are not affecting your responsibilities in the family and at work?

Sometimes we gambled over our limitations and it's not really healthy. I felt stressed during those times especially when losing money that is already material to me even if it is my extra amount. Because gambling is just some kind of a recreation. It should be fun, entertaining and gives us some thrill and excitement. It somehow relaxes us from our daily routines which at times could be stressful and boring.

That's somehow normal because money is still a money to the majority of us here, and a loss will somehow put us in a bad mood even if that's just an extra money. Gambling is really for entertainment purposes only and to help us ease our stress, not to add some stress in ourselves but we can't also hide from that truth that losing is also not a good experience.

Well, if they voted casual gamblers then I really think that our activities are not impeding the responsibilities in our family and our work.

I don't have any emotions while gambling as I understand the mathematics of the game. You do not experience emotions when you do arithmetic operations on a calculator, do you? I experience emotions when I watch games especially football, and gambling is secondary for emotions because there is nothing exciting about it.

There's always a tendency for some switch up because emotion would be your primary enemy when it comes to this manner specially with gambling which is mostly dealing with something valuable which its normal for us to make out some reactions whenever we do lose on every bet.You cant really be sure that you would really be remaining conservative on the time you would be experience losing streak.There would really be some switch up but of course not all people would really be having those kind of behavior and there are people who do really remain their composure and stick on what they do have in mind since from the start.
I am considering myself to be that conservative on which im really that keen when it comes to finances which if i do see that im losing too much then i would really be making out those sudden decisions
on stopping.

OP, If I can vote 2 results in poll then I will vote 2 points there. I might be able to say that I am an Ordinary Social Gambler, while I am also a Conservative Gambler. These two options seem to be something I've been feeling for a long time and to be something that makes me less addicted to gambling. I'm saying this based on the sense you're quoting, so I should be able to pick the two options that come closest to me.

So far I can still control my gambling desires. Even I can stop for weeks even though I see some people win something big. Gambling is entertainment for me and it shouldn't interfere with me and my time with my family so I would say the 2 options are perfect for me.

The problem here is that often time a compulsive gambler mistakenly thinks that they are a professional gambler.

I hope you can be careful because you could run into trouble in the future if you lose control of yourself. It's okay if we feel curious about foreign games and want to try playing them but we have to be able to stop before it's too late. In addition, a high curiosity to know more about the game will make us play longer and this really requires good control so that we can stop playing sufficiently. So whatever your gambler type is, you need good control to avoid addiction.
