I see preev is a thing before but how come people still care to use it while there are lots of alternatives?

Honestly speaking i always just go to google then type "btc to usd" and then something pre made converter show in the search page and input things there.

I've used Preev a lot back then. You use it basically just to have a really light-weight page open and living on one of your tabs that you don't need to refresh. It's mostly just a convenience thing than a feature thing. (at least in my case)

Yes, its useful for someone like me, I don't like to keep checking the price too often but still I keep the site on one tab almost forever, I think since yesterday I noticed the server error but no need to worry since the instance is not new to preev so hopefully it will come back only soon.

I witnessed this issue several times and It is like: oh, it is this time of the year..
There is many alternatives to preev.com but it remains the best, the cleanest for someone who just wants to take a rapid glance on the price multiple times in the day..
Hopefully it will return as usual. I noticed this issue and since it took some time and the site is still down, I did a Google search to find this topic since it is unbelievable no one would notice this too! I hate this when it happens

Still down, and so are the chances of its revival. Unless someone decides to buy the domain and the hosting from the original owner, my best guess is that it won't return. I'm curious, though, is there any way to contact the owner of the website? How much would it cost to run such a simple page? Perhaps someone could be interested in buying it, even from the forum, since it's a very well-known and easy to remember address.

There's no need to reinvent the wheel, there are many alternatives which already mentioned. There are even open source one such as https://github.com/handsomelatino/btc2fiat.

2. Looking at it's whois information[2], it only show contact info of domain services.
3. His account on Bitcointalk[3] was last accessed on 2015.

Looks like there's no way to contact the owner.

For simple page like preev, $5/month VPS should enough. But good domain name could be expensive.

That sucks, certainly, hosting isn't expensive nowadays, the domain however, due to the increase traffic it receives is probably worth a few thousand bucks. The .net alternative isn't that costly, though, while Namecheap recommended me Preee.com for $2.500. That's too bad, because this website could also have an advertisement or two, just to cover its maintenance costs.

However, isn't the hosting that has expired and not the domain? Providing that hosting isn't that expensive, we can't be exactly sure if lack of money is what caused this website to go down, but a possible health or personal issue?

Nevertheless, it's a shame.

I certainly already buy hosting for my needs, and it has been like that for 15+ years (I'm afraid to calculate the exact number of years  )
since the server is not overloaded, I have room to add more domains. Such useful services deserve support. (some of the Bitcointalk users are already using this kind of offer from me)

To me it looks like *something* expired. Domains are bought in 1 year blocks. You can't create a domain on June 12th and have it expire Jain 1st.
To me it looks like it expired in June and since there is a grace period before the end their particular host kept it up for a few weeks.
Some will kill it the 1st day some will keep it running for a while.

Just how I see it.

It's only the host that expired not the domain if the domain is the one that expired there is no notification coming from his host, I used to have a domain when my host subscription expired it has a notification that my subscription has expired if the domain expired you will see a blank page because you cannot connect it anymore to your host as it is disabled

While is possible to pay hosting for a month, three, six or a year, the domain is always paid on an annual basis, not at all half-yearly. while it is obvious that the preev domain was registered in June '11, now it expires in January, so it's strange that 6 months disappeared.

Well, it is the perfect time for some developer to jump on the opportunity to close a gap in the market. Just make sure you keep it basic and also use a very short domain name. (URL) .....because that was part of the success of this site. (Also, it did not have advertisements all over the site)

The owner obviously did not create Preev.com to profit from it, he/she/they offered this service to support the community. (I would add a donation address to fund the domain hosting cost for the site, if it was mine)

June'11 to 2025 is a long time.
Here is my theory. Most of the cases months are counted as 30 days period. In years there are 28 days, 29 days, 30 days, and 31 days for months. Maybe if we count the total days and divide it by 30 then we will find an actual figure. That 5 month difference should cover.

I am 100% sure that the domain is perfectly fine. It's the hosting which has expired. The site was really useful for me. Now I visit exchange to see the price LOL

It's question of habbits and preferences. I used preev for 6 years maybe and was satisfied with it. And now it's difficult to change habbits after such long time. You prefer to type BTC to USD in Google, I prefer to enter Preev.com.

Having Preev on downtime is just really like a big loss to me because whenever i do check price of btc then its already bookmarked or already in history result of my browser which i do only need to press

Pr ++ and then enter then i do already know the price of BTC on point.Its true that it might be simple on saying that there are lots of alternatives but nothing beats out preev on that manner.
Ive been using this for how many years or shall we say on the time that i had known bitcoin. Now i do need to click and search in google.
Even trying to check on CMC do really feels like to exert too much effort. lol

I doubt it is an issue of whether or not the owner can maintain it, but rather the owner hasn't set a reminder as the when it will expire. I don't know if theymos would even consider buying the site either as there are money other alternatives.
